The Sinister Xiphos with Blacked-out Aesthetics

The Ibanez Iron Label Xiphos XPTB620 was crafted for pure unadulterated metal, as evidenced by its radical Xiphos body and sinister blacked-out aesthetics. Boasting an okoume body, this axe is a certified headbanger — okoume is a tonewood renowned for its bright, cutting tone and incredible natural sustain. And that's before you even plug it in! Paired with a suitable high-gain amplifier, the XPTB620 churns out face-melting metallic textures, courtesy of a set of DiMarzio D Activator humbuckers. Meanwhile, its 5-piece Wizard II neck and 24-fret ebony fingerboard provide unfettered access to your most technically demanding riffs. You also get rock-solid, stage-ready hardware, such as Gotoh tuning machine heads and an Edge-Zero II tremolo, which facilitates sociopathic levels of whammy bar abuse without the tuning headaches. If you want to play extreme metal, you need an extreme solidbody electric guitar like the Iron Label Xiphos XPTB620.

Incredibly fast Wizard II neck

One of Ibanez's fastest necks to date, the 5-piece maple/walnut Wizard II neck on the XPTB620 is an absolute pleasure to play. This slim and super-comfortable neck lets you pull off lightning-fast runs, arpeggios, and hammer-ons with ease, but it still gives you the substance you need for fretting chords. Capping the neck is a 24-fret ebony fingerboard that's loaded with jumbo frets that are perfect for big note bends. From the first time you put your hands on the XPTB620's Wizard II neck, you'll know you've got a guitar that was built with performance in mind.

Active guitar tones without the battery

Ibanez loaded the Iron Label Xiphos XPTB620 with a pair of DiMarzio D Activator humbucking pickups. These high-octane pickups deliver a full and enriched harmonic quality that's great for rhythm and solo playing alike. DiMarzio designed their D Activator pickups to eliminate the sterile edginess that plagues many active pickups. The bottom line is that they deliver all the advantages of active pickups without the drawbacks. Plus, these pickups don't require batteries! What's more, their massive headroom permits you to pick as aggressively as you want without flattening your signal. The guitarists here at Sweetwater have found these pickups to have exceptionally balanced volume between the neck and bridge — you can switch between the two positions with zero drops in volume.

Dive deep with an Edge-Zero II tremolo

The XPTB620's Edge-Zero II tremolo gives you the fast response and snap you need to pull off sharp bends and vibrato. The extreme stability of this knife-edge-style trem's stud lock function is also one of the many reasons it's a favorite among many of today's top players. If you're looking for a guitar that can stand up to long, aggressive playing sessions without losing its tuning, you're going to love the XPTB620.

Technical Death Metal Machine
I love my Iron Label Xiphos 6 string. I've had 0 issues with playability and the guitar is very balanced when playing standing up. The long wing gives you a nice pivot point for palm-muted death metal tremolo picking, the Edge Zero II bridge is nice, flat, and wonderful to play on. The short wing below the neck is great for playing in the classical position and doesn't move around like flying V's tend to do - it's a very stable platform. The neck is a little thicker than a typical thin Ibanez neck, but I personally like it. The only issues I have with this guitar is that the tuning stability when the bridge is floating can be tricky, so I just block mine. I also think that EMG active pickups pair better with this guitar IMO. Great guitar and my main workhorse.
Kick Axe !!
Glad I made the decision to acquire this New Ibanez XIPHOS !! This axe is perfect for any {Genre} !From neo classical to Heavy Drop tunning RIFFS ... Even 80"s Metal!!! If your on the Fence about it go ahead and JUMP!! This thing ROCKS !!!
Outstanding Metal Axe Right Out of the Box
I got one of these for guitar month. I'm not a fan of the Iron Label series because I like colorful instruments. But I will say Ive always wanted a Xiphos since I first saw one back in 2007 or 2008. I'm glad I got this one. After first initial setup and retune this thing has been a very nice instrument for the price. Its bright and boomy unplugged and the pickups sound incredible. I was worried they'd be over compressed and flat but they actually sound pretty lively and dynamic. Obviously they're best for metal and hi gain applications (especially if you like squeals and harmonics) but they clean up pretty decently as well. There is the option to coil split because the pickups do have 4 wire connectivity. This is always an option if you want it to be cleaner. I ran my Xiphos through it's paces recording already and it sat super nice in the mix and chugged nicely. The Edge Zero holds tune very well. I highly recommend these if you need something that handles high gain very well and just does it's thing right out of the box. Sustain for days. THIS GUITAR GOES TO ELEVEN.

Great take on the original xiphos
I've had this guitar for approx. 5 months now and it's been my go to guitar. I love the upper fret access and the playability is fantastic. I've been pleasantly surprised with the pickups so far. The balance is slightly off on the 7 string version with very slight neck dive but compared to my other 7 strings it is much better than most.

I only wish Ibanez offered these with stainless steel frets.
None More Pointy
I've wanted a Xiphos since they were first released in 2007 but I'm glad I waited until now to get one from the Iron Label Series. The flat, blacked-out stealth aesthetic makes an already "Metal" guitar Uber-Metal. It's extremely comfortable to play both sitting and standing. It has zero neck-dive, so you won't have to constantly adjust it as you play.

The neck has an extremely comfortable slim "C" contour, thin enough to shred all over the neck (the upper fret access is excellent), but there is still enough mass to keep the left hand from cramping during rhythm work. The fret work is very good, and the Ebony board has some nice figuring to it (one of the reasons I choose this particular guitar). I also like the absence of inlays, it makes the figuring stand out more and adds to the stealth theme.

I thought I would probably replace the pickups based on their description (Passives that sound Active) but it turns out I really like them. They have great output and clarity under high gain without the "modern" compressed sound I thought they might have. The neck and bridge pair well together with good overall tonal balance.

The overall sound leans towards the highs but still has plenty of mids and tight lows. It sounds "solid" with a lot of attack and clarity. It's not brittle or harsh at all, although the tone control will come in handy for clean tones. I've never had any experience with Okoume wood before, but it sounds good to me, I certainly wouldn't be opposed to having another guitar made with it.

The only "issues" I found are a couple of cosmetic blemishes (rough cavity route edges) and The Edge Zero 2 arm wobbles quite a bit and doesn't stay tight. I installed an aftermarket arm that fixed the issue along a brass block, Trem stopper (dive only), brass spring claw and noiseless springs. Those are the only mods I really needed to do which is great (I do these mods to any guitar with a "Floyd", it really makes a difference), it's nice to get a guitar that doesn't need the pickups swapped or the hardware replaced.

Overall, I'm really happy with this guitar, it's well made and spec'd out really well for Metal, I think it's a good value for the money. Also, the gig bag is decent and well padded (I still bought the case for it though). If you are looking for a pointy, Uber-Metal guitar that's super comfortable, sounds great and is fairly priced this is worth serious consideration.
