Cutting-edge Recording with Built-in Analog Compression

The Universal Audio Volt 176 leverages UA’s renowned analog expertise to deliver a USB-C audio interface worthy of a decades-long legacy. The Volt 176 boasts topflight analog circuitry and class-leading 24-bit/192kHz AD/DA conversion, enabling you to create professional-sounding music productions, livestreams, and podcasts. This bus-powered audio interface boasts one microphone preamplifier with switchable 610-style analog sound and convenient input metering. This interface’s crown jewel, however, is its built-in 1176-derived FET compressor with three push-button application modes. Beyond that, stereo analog outputs and a headphones output make monitoring a snap, plus you get direct monitoring for zero-latency operation. You also get MIDI I/O for your synths and controllers. The Volt 176 vaunts a rugged, retro-inspired industrial design and comes with UA’s award-winning LUNA software and a generous cache of cutting-edge plug-ins and virtual instruments.

Armed with class-leading AD/DA conversion

The Universal Audio Volt 176 includes outstanding AD/DA conversion — a must-have feature for professional-sounding tracks. This optimized conversion circuitry delivers true 24-bit/192kHz performance, ensuring true-to-life detail and clarity with tons of dimensionality. The engineers here at Sweetwater have found that projects recorded via this USB-C audio interface are top shelf all the way. With the Volt 176, you’ll be able to produce rock-solid, album-worthy tracks.

Infuses your tracks with 610-style analog sound

UA is renowned for their classic analog designs, and the Volt 176 reflects their decades of experience. This audio interface includes a custom analog mic/line preamplifier circuit that sounds startlingly similar to Universal Audio’s classic 610 tube pre. The Vintage Preamp Mode employs expertly designed op-amps and solid-state electronics to deliver tubelike dynamic saturation and clipping, arming you with powerful, intuitive tone shaping for your microphones and line-level signals. Best of all, Vintage Preamp Mode is selectable, which enables you to use the Volt 176 with external preamps and channel strips with zero added coloration.

Includes a real-deal 1176-derived FET compressor

The UREI 1176 is legendary — a bona fide pro studio workhorse that can be used to add punch and presence to everything from drums to guitars to vocals. The Volt 176 includes a built-in FET compressor based on the classic 1176. But this isn’t a digital emulation; rather, it’s a real-deal analog compressor. The compressor includes three easy-to-use push-button modes for Vocals, Guitars, and Fast sources (the latter is tailor-made for drums), ensuring optimal settings for any source.

Includes a premium software bundle

The Volt 176 comes with a value-laden collection of pro-grade software, enabling you to start recording right out of the box. For starters, you get UA’s award-winning LUNA DAW software, allowing you to record, edit, and mix using the sound and workflow of an analog studio. The Volt 176 USB Recording Studio also includes a suite of UAD plug-ins and instruments, comprising classic Teletronix LA‑2A compressors and Pultec EQs plus new favorites, such as the PolyMAX Synth, Century Tube Channel Strip, and Oxide Tape Recorder. Thanks to this generous software bundle, you can create music using the same plug-ins and instruments that top industry pros rely on in your home studio. Moreover, you’ll be able to level up your recording and mixing skills with tips and tutorials geared toward beginners and advanced engineers alike.

What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Very Nice Interface
This is a nice interface with decent preamps. All the right controls for home recording. Sets up easily with no issues in Windows 11. It's nice looking, and with it wood and aluminum build, it looks like a piece of furniture. The noise level is low and the "vintage knob adds some flavor to your sound. But one of the best features for me is that it has an off/on switch, which allows you to turn the unit off when not in use. A minimal feature to some, but, unlike my old unit, which just ran continuously via USB, this is a small but nice feature. If you're looking for a small unit for the home or apartment that won't break the bank, the VOLT 1-76 will work fine.

Great build quality and wonderful super low latency recording with the well regarded built in vintage pre amp with smooth compressor for a plus! everything is great 100 percent would buy again.

Beautiful
I love this audio interface. It's just what I was looking for.

Voltastic!
I use the 176 to play my guitar through plugins. I don't record with it, which is why I opted for the 176. If you plan on recording with multiple mics I'd go for the bigger volts. That being said, this thing is top notch. The build quality is great and so is the price. I'm severely technologically challenged, and this thing was super easy to setup.

No Hiss
I had to use a Neumann TLM 49, and then a Sennheiser 416 without a pre amp. Plugged them straight into the V176. I had to turn the gain up to 95% to get a good signal. And I got it with no hiss or distortion!
The other features are great, but the pre-amp in this thing is wonderful!
Music background: Intermediate guitar and bass.
