The VT-5’s tube circuit is derived from D.W. Fearn’s impressive-sounding VT-1 and VT-2 mic preamps, lending the equalizer a sonic character cut from the same cloth. The VT-5 employs passive Class A triode vacuum tube stages for the input and output, which are balanced via custom Jensen transformers. All the controls are stepped for effortless settings recall and precise matching between units in multichannel/mastering applications.

Fearn VT-7 is a dual-channel tube compressor with a Class A vacuum tube audio path and modern solid-state, all-analog pulse width modulation (PWM) gain-reduction circuitry. This allows the VT-7 to replicate the sound and performance of coveted classic vacuum tube compressors without being dependent on tubes that are no longer manufactured. You can use the VT-7’s two channels independently or linked for stereo operation. The unit includes a sidechain highpass filter to reduce the influence of bass-heavy material on compression action. Two glowing vintage-style VU meters can be switched to indicate either gain reduction or output level. The VT-7’s tube amplification stage is derived from D.W. There is, however, an effective heat-mitigation strategy for tube equipment owners on a limited budget, and it involves the use of vented rack panels such as the D.W. Fearn VPF. The VPF is a 1U vented rack panel that is color-matched to complement your D.W. Fearn gear. Space out your tube units with at least 1U between them; then finish your rack install by attaching VPF panels to fill the open spaces. You’ll not only have a professional-looking rack, but you’ll also prolong the life of your tubes and electronics.
