Powerful and Portable 8-channel Video Switcher

The V-8HD from Roland is an 8-channel video switcher that comes with everything you need to switch, mix, compose, and record high-quality video. It's made for the 21st century too, featuring an all-HDMI workflow that lets you connect to a wide range of different sources. You get eight HDMI inputs that interface with modern devices. Two of the inputs have built-in scalers to handle tablets, gaming consoles, and old-school devices. You can add 5 composition layers and save your favorite graphics configurations as presets for easy use. And best of all, the all-in-one design eliminates the possibility of computer-related hassles like setup issues or software crashes. Other features include Atomos recording, remote control capability, stereo RCA input, computer-assisted switching, and much more. If you're looking for a video switcher that can do it all, the Roland V-8HD is up to the task.

All-HDMI workflow lets you connect more of today's devices

Today, HDMI is everywhere. Since most modern cameras and devices use HDMI, Roland decided to follow suit. The V-8HD uses only HDMI inputs that enable it to connect to a greater number of devices. You get 8 HDMI inputs that you can use with cameras of all kinds. And here at Sweetwater, we appreciate that inputs 7 and 8 have scalers that accommodate sources that aren't as easy to connect via HDMI — such as smartphones, tablets, etc.

Built-in multi-viewer display lets you monitor everything at once

The V-8HD has a 4.3" color display for monitoring your video inputs. You can monitor all eight video inputs plus the menu overlay in one place. This mighty display even shows your PGM and PVW feeds. If you have a spare TV lying around, you can connect it to the V-8HD to view your feed in greater detail and to free up the onboard display to make menu changes. You can also set the multi-viewer to show camcorder status and embedded audio levels.

Easily set up layers, effects, and keys

Special effects have the power to capture the attention of your audience. As such, the designers at Roland made sure to give the V-8HD enough processing power to handle all the effects you want to use. You have the freedom to use up to 5 layers with two picture-in-picture layers, and downstream keys. The picture in picture feature is especially useful if you're producing eSports content with multiple player feeds. Once you get your FX set up and programmed to the right input, you can trigger them with the touch of a button. Once you create a few favorite effects sequences, you can save them as presets for easy recall.

Onboard 18-channel digital mixer

The V-8HD doesn't just mix video. It gives you the ability to mix audio at the same time, thanks to the onboard 18-channel digital mixer. It automatically blends the audio signal from each HDMI port and the Stereo RCA input to create a basic mix you can tweak at your leisure. Choose from preset effects to tailor your sound to whatever environment you're working in. The effects library even includes helpful features like wind noise reduction and de-essing. For greater flexibility, you can even connect your iPad to your V-8HD. Finally, you can use the remote control app to fine-tune your mix on the fly.

Perfect for any lifestyle or environment

When you're setting up for a gig or livestream, the last thing you'll be worrying about is the AV table. Luckily for you, The V-8HD is lightweight and compact enough to make it the ideal companion. That's because its all-in-one design eliminates the need for bulky external gear. Just plug your cables in, and get going! If you regularly travel, the V-8HD is absolutely ideal, because it fits into a carry-on bag and weighs just 4 lbs! Throw it into your bag with cables and your favorite headphones, and you'll be ready to take on anything. Whether you're controlling the production from a large desk or a card table that's seen better days, the Roland V-8HD will perform brilliantly.

Roland V 8-8HD IS A MAJOR GAME CHANGER FOR PRODUCTION
Let me just say when I pulled this out of the box I was ready to play but I had a few issues getting started no need to worry I emailed roland and in 10 minutes tech support got right back with me they sent me a email on where to go and what capture card I needed along with other information for support. There is a lot that you can do with this hardware I had another switcher but when I seen this one I took that rascal back to the store and reached out to sweet water. I hope these are in stock because I sure they are flying off the shelves. I keep this baby right in front of my turntables for my live camera feed.

We love this thing!
Our church recently upgraded from Roland's 4-channel V-1HD to this new V-8HD. The V1 was great, and the V8 is even better. The additional inputs and scaling ability on inputs 7-8 is a huge help. The added dedicated sections for PinP and DSK are a great ease-of-use upgrade that was even more helpful than we were expecting. 1 touch to bring in your graphics and text via Down Stream Key. 1 touch for your pre-configured Picture in Picture. A lot less fiddling. It's also much more flexible with regard to the PinP. You can scale it any size and even different shapes and edge blending options, where the V1 was pretty limited in that area. Lastly, it either doesn't have a fan or it is quiet enough I don't hear it. The fan on the V1 was fairly audible.

The only little things we could ask for would be a "mix level" control for the PinP, and maybe some different options for the multi-view, like dual 4-up screens assigned to 2 outputs instead of everything on 1 screen.

Overall we are very impressed with the V-8HD. It is similar enough to the V1 that we already now how to use it, but it made big improvements on almost every aspect and still comes in at a great price. I highly recommend it.
Additional Video Switcher
Our second purchase of the Roland V-8HD for our church campus. We had been using the 1st one for about a year and a half to live stream our church services in the main sanctuary as part of the response to COVID, now we have in-person worship services and continue to livestream. When we wanted to "go live" in our smaller chapel for some worship services we selected the Roland to make the transition for volunteers from one building to the other very easy.
-Prior to the purchase of the first switcher I looked (read) at a lot of instruction manuals, prices, etc on the various OEM web sites and to various reviews on various web sites. The Roland V-8HD 8-Channel Video Switcher had the best "bang for the buck" back in summer of 2020 and now the price is even lower.
-The Switcher has 2 Picture in Picture channels that can be easily preset for size and where (using simple knobs on the front panel) on the output stream (screen) they are placed. In addition since we use a computer to create slides for songs, announcements, photos, etc we have as one of our 8 inputs the computer output (w/o needing to go thru an external format converter). In addition the selection of source material (one of the 8 video inputs) for pip is very simple from the front console.
-We currently use three cameras (two ptz & one fixed) and two computer inputs into the switcher with room to grow (add cameras) as money and time allow.
- We feed the output into a small electronic box that is pre-programmed for our Facebook feed just push the green button and about 10-30 seconds latter we are live on Facebook. Push the green button again and we are clear. Makes it easy for volunteers. Pre-program up to 10 looks for both PTZ cameras before the service, review the order of service and you are ready to go.
-Audio We mute all HDMI inputs, and feed the audio from the house mix board thru a small external mixer to the RCA input jacks to allow for adjustments of the audio feed to the livestream. Use a set of closed back headphones to monitor what audio sounds like on the livestream. Works great.
-Very easy to use while live streaming the Sunday worship service [Use three techs: (audio, live stream, computer & projection screens in the sanctuary)] When we do a funeral or memorial service can get by with one or two techs depending upon complexity.
Music background: Played trombone in high school & college a very long time ago, retired electrical engineer.
More than Bang for the money
This video switcher is awesome, it has already exceeded our expectations, and we are still learning all the things this unit will do.
I would highly recommend it.
The Best 8 Channel Video Mixer on the market!
Initially starting with the V-1HD and quickly finding out that 4 inputs were not enough and all the competitors higher channel mixers were SDI but not ready to make the jump to SDI. I was amazed to hear the announcement of the V-8HD after finishing my 6 month rental of the V-1HD with Bavas Music City (Great Customer service btw) I Immediately started my rental with the V-8HD. Several months into using it for weddings, Church services, Music production, conferences etc it has excelled in all areas, the 3 outputs are a lifesaver, The aux output is amazing, being able to load still images is amazing, the DSK, the fact that t works with cat6 convertors it's pretty much a V-1HD on steroids. I showed a group of kids at my church it and within 10 minutes of using it, they had pretty much mastered it. The menu system is easy to navigate and any problems you may have Roland's excellent customer service is happy to help and haven't let me down. If I really really really had to nitpick/dream features would be like the V-1HD a desktop control software for the V-8HD instead of the only option of an iPad app that only works on newer iPads, and an Inbuilt clock to stay on top of production.

TL;DR It is an amazing product that will transform your productions Roland really got this right and can rival even some Blackmagic switchers If you need an 8 input HDMI mixer get it!! Don't let the price scare you. it is worth every Dollar and more.

Simply put, modern electronic music wouldn't exist without Roland. Many of the electronic musicians here at Sweetwater cut our teeth on TR Rhythm machines and fondly remember programming our first TB-303s. We owe a good part of our careers to this amazing and innovative company. It's been fun to watch and grow right alongside Roland, as they've introduced wave after wave of revolutionary keyboards, digital pianos, and more. For example, Roland's V-Drum Kits continuously redefine the possibilities of electronic drums, beginning with SuperNATURAL technology to the latest Prismatic Sound Modeling. We're huge fans, and we'd love to tell you all about them. Whether you want a pocket-sized synth or a cutting-edge video mixer, if Roland makes it, then Sweetwater is 100% behind it.
