The Sound of a Classic!

The Vox V847-A wah pedal improves on the V847's popular design with increased dynamics and functionality, thanks to a few design changes. A redesigned inductor brings the new pedal's specs even closer to that of the original. and an added input buffer prevents impedance loading of the guitar signal to preserve your guitar's tone in bypass mode. By staying true to the tone and vibe of the 1960s-era Vox wah while enhancing its legacy, the V847-A offers you a modern update on a true classic.

Vox V847-A Wah Pedal Features:
  • Classic Vox sound and styling
  • Redesigned inductor brings sound even closer to that of the original
  • Added input buffer prevents impedance loading of guitar signal to preserve guitar's tone in bypass mode
  • 9V power supply input for connection of AC adapter
Vox V847-A - As close to the original as you can get!

Best Wah pedal ever!
I use this wah pedal for practice in our studio playing an Epiphone Les Paul 100 through a Fender Tone Master Deluxe Reverb and it has an amazing wah sound in that combination.

Wah Wah Wah Wah!
This thing rocks!!! It's quiet and works well in my signal chain. Great tonal characteristics. It's just an absolute blast to play and built like a tank!!

Jimi Hendrix, SRV, and John Frusciante at your feet! Love it!

Classic wah pedal, functions well.
It's a Vox wah pedal, and it does exactly what you expect. I'm using it on a new pedalboard for a typical bedroom player setup. It works well, and of course, you can pretend to be Jimi while playing 'Voodoo Chile' and flexing that wah like crazy...

It's pretty quiet. I do use a good power supply (a 1Spot, also from Sweetwater), which helps, and noiseless pickups on both my old Strat Plus, and new Am. Ultra Tele.

You can't really go wrong. Oh, if you're a super pedal nerd, there's a good video on YouTube on how to mod this model of Vox wah (487-A) to include an LED and true bypass, if you're into that sort of thing. It's really quiet with only a couple of pedals, though, so no real noticeable issues for me...

A Modern Wah, Not a 1960s Vox Wah
I recently purchased the V847A from Sweetwater, and my decision was based partly on the promotional language used on this page and the Vox Web site. It's a very nice pedal, but the hype copy is very inaccurate.

The V847A is a significant redesign of the original Vox wah circuit. For example, there are two PCBs inside, and according to the Stinkfoot Web site that specializes in analyzing Wah pedals, the second small PCB that is attached to the potentiometer contains SMD inductors. Why would a Wah pedal need more than one inductor? I have no idea, but it is definitely not necessary for recreating the sound of a 1960s wah.

There are various other SMD components in the main board, but Korg's incorporating tiny components into the design does not bother me. What does trouble me is the misleading marketing.

That being said, this pedal is a great modern wah! Compared to an old Vox Clyde McCoy or V846 or even Dunlop's version known as the V847, this one gets much brighter at toe down and maybe a little darker at heel down. The V847A's sound and texture are similar to an old Vox wah, but there's also a hint of analog-synth-like filtering, sort of seamlessly morphing between low-pass and high-pass as the treadle is rocked.

It's a cool effect and can be useful in both the traditional applications of rock, funk, and R&B, as well as less common musical directions, such as techno or electronica.

Great pedal with classic wah tones. Responsive and solidly constructed. As always, I wish to thank Alex Campos and the staff at Sweetwater, best in the business.
