Compact yet Powerful SDI Video Switcher

Compact, comprehensive, and ready to interface with professional SDI-equipped video gear, Roland's V-1SDI video switcher combines four channels of video mixing with all the compositing modes, transitions, audio mixing, and I/O you could ask for. Extensive and flexible I/O includes SDI, which supports professional video equipment and long cable runs, as well as HDMI. Both an integrated HDMI scaler and a 2-mode SDI output (PGM/PST) provide ample system integration flexibility. On top of that, you can add an HDMI screen for quad-source monitoring, a laptop running remote control software, and even an RS-232 controller, making the V-1SDI an ideal hub for your video rig.

Perfect for media production in the field

If you're using SDI-equipped cameras, you could hardly ask for a better video switcher for videography, webcasting, and mobile media production than Roland's compact V-1SDI. This simple switcher is light to pack, takes seconds to set up, and includes flexible SDI outputs allowing you to send PGM signal to two sources at once, such as dedicated recorders and web-streaming interfaces. It also provides audio processing, including a microphone input with EQ, compression, delay, and other processing, making it easy to record voice-overs and interviews in real time.

A great option for simple installations

Equipped with SDI I/O, which is capable of far greater cable runs than HDMI, the Roland V-1SDI is an elegant video switcher for multimedia auditoriums and similar venues. At the same time, two HDMI inputs allow you to connect computers and video players, and since one of the HDMI inputs includes a scaler, you can even use standard-definition sources. What's more, the V-1SDI comes equipped with an RS-232 serial port, allowing you to connect it to more elaborate video system controllers as your needs grow.

Excellent video support for live events

When you run a multi-camera live shoot, the last thing you want to deal with is unnecessary complication, making the simplicity of the V-1SDI indispensable. Large multicolor, backlit buttons make source selection effortless while hands-on controls, including the T-Fader lever, make fades and other transitions extremely smooth. Picture-in-picture mode also comes in handy, especially for live music, and when you need in-depth control, you can easily hook up your laptop to instantly access advanced settings.

Quad multi-viewer makes monitoring easy

Just hook up a screen to the multi-view output, and you get a full quad preview of your input sources. Each quadrant of the screen is color coded (red for active, green for cued) so you can check your setup at a glance. This multi-view monitor also provides you with useful data, including various setup options and full audio monitoring for each input. Best of all, the multi-view output uses standard HDMI, so you don't have to buy an expensive video monitor to take advantage of this useful function.

Loaded with transition and comp effects

Downstream keying, picture-in-picture, split, and even quad compositing effects — Sweetwater video techs were impressed by the V-1SDI's extended capabilities. Whether you're chroma keying or luminance keying out backdrops, overlaying titles, adding lyrics, or even logos to your video, the V-1SDI has it covered. What's more, all the standard effects are there, from adjustable fades to 15 classic transitions, each with either hard or soft edges.

Full-fledged digital audio mixer onboard

Including stereo audio inputs from all your SDI and HDMI sources, additional stereo line-level input, and a mic input, the V-1SDI is fully capable of handling all the audio you need. What's more, there's a full 14-channel digital mixer onboard, complete with adjustable sync delay for each channel (up to 500ms), so you can keep all your audio and video locked together. Audio transitions can follow video transitions, and the master mix gets embedded in both the HDMI and SDI outputs for easy recording.

Access advanced functions remotely

When you need to get your hands on the V-1SDI's advanced functions, and every second matters, then you'll appreciate Roland's V-1SDI RCS software. Connected via USB to your Mac or Windows computer, RCS lets you change transition and comp settings, mix audio, and access additional parameters via an elegant user interface. Additionally, you can extend the hardware interface by connecting an external video controller via the RS-292 serial port.

Reviews

Video switching made easy
The Roland V-1 SDI really helped get our multi-PTZ Camera stream working cleanly. Software configuration made it a flexible solution.
Does exactly what I expected it to do
This was pretty much common sense to hook up and get working. Does the job very well. One word of caution: I have 2 HDMI Webcam cameras from the same manufacturer that operate at different frame rates of 50 and 59.94. I can use either one of them. But for some reason I cannot use them both at the same time as the frame rate seems to get set by one of the HDMI ports on the V-1SDI and probably makes it the DEFAULT for the other HDMI port. And I cannot seem to change this value on either of the webcams. So be careful with that little caveat. Not a show stopper for me though as I also have a very nice 4k/UHD camcorder with SDI connections which is why I bought the SDI version of this switcher. I am only mixing video [no audio] currently as I have a direct video feed from my computer. I have a video encoder between the V-1SDI and my PC where I merge the 2 signals for live webcast. So at the moment I have a fully functioning 2-camera system for live streaming and will pay attention to the frame rates on my next camera purchase. I knocked off the one star because of the locked frame rate on both HDMI ports. It would be nice if they could be set independent of each other regardless of input source.

Simply put, modern electronic music wouldn't exist without Roland. Many of the electronic musicians here at Sweetwater cut our teeth on TR Rhythm machines and fondly remember programming our first TB-303s. We owe a good part of our careers to this amazing and innovative company. It's been fun to watch and grow right alongside Roland, as they've introduced wave after wave of revolutionary keyboards, digital pianos, and more. For example, Roland's V-Drum Kits continuously redefine the possibilities of electronic drums, beginning with SuperNATURAL technology to the latest Prismatic Sound Modeling. We're huge fans, and we'd love to tell you all about them. Whether you want a pocket-sized synth or a cutting-edge video mixer, if Roland makes it, then Sweetwater is 100% behind it.
