Transform Your Bass Tone with Multiband Saturation and Tremolo

If you're a bass player with an ear for nontraditional fuzz/distortion sounds and synthy cascades of color, there's a slew of gooey, glitchy character tones to be discovered in the Source Audio Ultrawave Bass pedal. A unique multiband approach to tone structuring gives the Ultrawave Bass the edge for the hard-clipped squelchy fuzzes and infinite-sustain exploratory leads that are so hard to achieve with traditional clipping circuits. Ultrawave Bass splits monophonic and polyphonic signals in up to 10 bands and lets users crank and saturate each to taste, yielding some of the filthiest riff distinguishers on the planet. Naturally, Ultrawave Bass does doom, desert, and industrial with aplomb. But this pedal's softer side will surprise you. A mature multiband compressor and a custom-waveform stereo tremolo can be called up quickly using the free Neuro Editor desktop/mobile app. Speaking of which, tone chasers will love all the bells and whistles inside Neuro Editor, where you'll find loads of fresh-baked factory presets waiting to transform your pedestrian bass lines into surges of supermassive hysteria.

A pioneering approach to traditional bass effects

The Source Audio Ultrawave Bass pedal takes a pioneering approach to traditional broadband overdrive, tremolo, and compression effects. By splitting each band of a monophonic or polyphonic bass signal into up to 10 specially tuned bass bands and letting users treat each band as its own signal — each complete with its own adjustable parameters — Ultrawave Bass is able to forge new ground for the adventurous sonic spelunker.

What can the Ultrawave Bass do?

  • Heaps of utterly unique overdrive tones: Ultrawave Bass's band-split technology can be applied to a plethora of exciting overdrive types: tube, op-amp, diode, gated, octave-up, foldback, and more.
  • Foldback distortion: This synth-derived distortion type is a callback to Source Audio's Soundblox Multiwave pedal. Fans describe its sound as aggressive, glitchy, squelchy, and over-the-top buzzy — in short, it knows how to make an entrance.
  • Rich, gritty octaves: Many of our favorite clipping circuits of the past have a tendency to scoop out those vital lows. That's not the case with Ultrawave Bass. Since signals can be split into separate bands and processed individually, this pedal succeeds in preserving those earthquaking fundamentals and chunky second-order octave harmonics, no matter how much gain is slathered on.
  • Pulsing waves of dancing, driven tremolo: Rhythmic arpeggiated soundscapes and old-school harmonic amp tremolo are two areas where Ultrawave Bass really shines.
  • Advanced stereo effects: Want to send two entirely different drive effects to each of Ultrawave Bass's outputs? Looking for a ping-pong stereo that bounces from ear to ear? You'll find these and much more in this pedal.
  • Compression, tremolo, and more: There's plenty more tone-shaping potential to be discovered in Ultrawave Bass by engaging its Sound Processing Blocks.

Ripe for sonic experimentation

The Source Audio Ultrawave Bass is built for any bass player who's mental about the experimental. If you've got a will for uncovering a particular type of uncommon distortion effect, the Ultrawave Bass more than likely has a way.

Spans nuanced effects to sonic extremes

The multiband Ultrawave Bass can achieve so many tones that it's hard to put a finger on what it sounds like. It's West Coast doom with a high-rising terminal. Retrofuturism with a side of synthwave. A sputtering Tesla coil fed by a starved watched battery. A symphony of clipping diodes. A pathway to chiptune nirvana. A synthesist's holiday. Stoner rock a-go-go.

And that's just to call out its extremes. The Source Audio Ultrawave Bass certainly packs more nuanced effects, including tubelike overdrive, throbbing opto-tremolo, and even ultra-clean multiband compression and arpeggiation.

Sound Processing Blocks

Here at Sweetwater, we think the Source Audio Ultrawave Bass's additional Sound Processing Blocks take it from great to legendary. Here you'll discover a stack of mature tone enhancers to use on their own or in conjunction with this pedal's mark-making bass tones.

  • Dual-channel Compressor: A studio-level compressor that can be placed before or after the drive circuit, it can squash signals running into a fuzz or balance out levels coming out of a sputtery overdrive.
  • Multiband Tremolo: This block supplies an impressive range of juicy trem effects with both traditional (Depth, Rate) and unconventional (Onset, LFO Wave Shape) controls. Manipulating these, you can create everything from traditional amp tremolo to sequencer-type chased note sequences.
  • Morph: How would you like to blend seamlessly between two turbocharged tones using an optional expression pedal? It's all possible within the Source Audio Ultrawave Bass pedal.

Tap into Ultrawave Bass's potential with the Neuro Editor (Mac/PC/iOS)

Obviously, a pedal as sophisticated as the Source Audio Ultrawave Bass can be a little daunting for players to dive right into. Fortunately, a wealth of artist presets can be accessed within the free Source Audio Neuro Editor desktop software and mobile app. Whether you're looking for a special tone to make a bass part pop or you just want an entry point to building the tone of your dreams, the Neuro Editor is the place to start working your way into all Ultrawave Bass can accomplish. Neuro Editor also makes a one-stop shop for the sonic fruits of your tonal labors — you can catalog favorites and user presets for later recall.

Reviews

Jaw dropping!
After so much research and debate on whether to purchase this or not i was completely amazed by how great it sounds.
This thing is a computer in a box,it is an effect you can use right away but to master the full potential of it will take years lol. There is a 41 page download able instruction manual for one, also there is only 4 knobs on it but with the app (pc and Android) you have so much control over things you nevef thought possable.
Don't be scared off by this fact cause there are plenty of user made settings in the online library if your like me and not a sound engineer or an audio scientist.
If you are looking for out of this world sounds or just extreme control of all aspects of your tone you will love this pedal as much as I do !!!
Music background: 35 years of bass experience as both a gigimg amd recording artist.
Bass Secret Utility Box
This pedal is a small box of wonders IF you understand what you want it to do and are willing to commit to learning the software. I understand that not everyone would want to do that but I see this as a tool that allows you to program your presets at home and cycle them as needed when you're playing. On the other hands, it could also be a great tool when used specifically for recording applications (we're using computers and plugins anyway).

I use this as a one box solution for dual compression, HP & LP settings, and EQ. If I need some grind, that's when I can use the multiband distortion and EQ the mids differently. It can do a lot more but for those special effects, I think you would be best served by having the desktop app available to you.
Great addition to the board
The bass ultra wave has a lot to offer. I'm using it as a stereo distortion against the aftershock. Running one in each channel gives a bite and thickness that's unreal, and I'm loving it! This thing also has octaver distortions, lFO and envelope filtration, and you can apply the distortion individually on up to 10 different eq bands, not to mention morph each eq band in itself over time. Really? Yeah, really. There's a lot here to get a handle on.
The downside? Well….. the extra features (like 95% of them) can only be accessed through the Nero app via computer or phone. But once set, you can make them presets to be recalled at anytime from the pedal. If you are a hub user be prepared to connect the hub and an additional cord to the ultra wave because the hub itself can't access the internal features in Nero, and you will need to run two instances of the software to adjust and add to scenes. Same problem I had with the C4 synth and filter pedals. So trying to find sounds while jamming is pretty much a no go or pain in the but at the least.

This pedal is difficult to tame no doubt… but delivers completely on every promise it makes. If you are prepared to climb the mountain of ultra wave bass… you will be greatly rewarded!

Source Audio changing the game
Like many of the other amazing Source Audio pedals, the Ultrawave (Bass) is magic. Go read some reviews or watch the Youtubes on what it can do. Hook it up to you mobile/tablet/laptop for the most configurability and to access all 128 internal presets, you'll need a MIDI device. I'm loving it.
a difficult beast to tame, but worth it
a deep pedal. when first plugged it in it sounded *****. it's so ,ich more than just a dirt pedal…
as others rightly commented , the neuro app opens everything up. once you go through some online presets…wholly mollie, there's a a lot to love.
it can sound really digital and cold and it's perfectly possible to create sounds which make you ears bleed, BUT it can also sound warm and organic if you dial in the right tone.
it produces a wide array of great fuzztones, very flexible compressor i.e. you can switch the distortion engine off and use it clean.
it's not a tube screamer although it can come close but is capable to produce some quite 3 dimensional, modern, articulate distortion tones. great string separation even with high gain stuff…and then there are all these other things like lfo/tremolo, envelope, compressor, gate, fold over distortion to trip you up and out…
I have now loaded 3 different fuzz flavours, a clean compressor, a tremolo and octaved sound which almost sound like a percussive hammond…

could also be 5 stars… but it's not as immediate and it can be a bit of a beast…but definitely a recommendation
