Fat and Clean Overdrive

Modeled after four separate amplifiers, the Vertex Ultraphonix MK II Overdrive will add an incredibly unique and memorable character to your tone. Built with 100% analog circuitry and mechanical true bypass, this D-style drive easily re-creates the legendary fat overdrive, note bloom, and harmonic overtones produced by an ultra-rare American boutique amplifier. When we demo'd the Ultraphonix MK II at Sweetwater, we especially loved the way it drove the amp but didn't lose any clarity. With just Master Volume, Level, and midrange Filter controls, you have access to an incredible variety of tones from all genres, and the MK II adds a Ratio control for striking the ideal balance between your dry and dirty signals. Experience a truly smooth, creamy overdrive for yourself with the Vertex Effects Ultraphonix MK II Overdrive.

Versatile controls shape your tone

To help you create your ultimate tone, the Ultraphonix MK II has extra tone-shaping controls that include Master, Ratio, Volume, Accent, and Tone. The onboard preamp is controlled by the Volume control. Set the volume at noon, and you’ll enjoy classic British sizzle. The Ratio knob blends your distorted signal with the clean signal, while the Filter knob accentuates upper-mids from 800Hz to 1.6kHz. Once you get the perfect mix of saturation and drive, use the Master control to set your final level. You may be able to control the final volume, but this pedal sounds wide open at all volume levels.

Vertex Effects Ultraphonix MK II Overdrive Pedal Features:

  • Unique overdrive character with harmonic overtones
  • Filter control adjusts midrange emphasis
  • 100% analog circuitry
  • Mechanical true bypass doesn't interfere with your signal when not in use
  • Ratio knob blends your distorted signal with the clean signal
  • 30% smaller than the original for more pedalboard real estate
  • 9V DC power supply needed for operation (adapter not included)

Reviews

Smooth sounding.
Well I've never played Dumble(s).
So I can't compare the pedal those amps. However, as far as the pedal, it's a smooth, organic, thick, sweet sounding overdrive. Sounds great no matter the guitar/amp. I think it's a great addition to your board. Not your typical overdrive pedal. Sounds great on clean amp setting: Marshalls, Fenders. I can't get a bad sound.
Vertex Ultra Phonics Special Overdrive
Great pedal. Seems to be marketed mostly for SRV fans but I like it for everything.

Nothing better
Yeah. Counting the pedals on the wall. Looking at 50+ pedals. Yikes... Anyway... This is the best pedal I have ever played.

Having a bad day? Plug this in and "bad day" = OVER.

Perfect articulation of your picking with incredible tone. You know how some pedals have that one great setting and the rest of the pedal's range is kind of "meh"? I couldn't make this pedal sound bad. After an hour or so, I thought "can I actually get a BAD sound out of this?". Nope. Humbuckers, Singles, SS amp, tube amp, Helix, DI... I could not make it suck. Amazing.

The design was totally nailed on this. Thanks for great work. This is a master piece.
Music background: Love all types of music.
Drive of the south
It's quite literally the best overdrive I've ever heard. I strummed a D and an E minor and I heard exactly what I dreamt an overdrive pedal would be. I'm playing out of a Blues Jr. III and this effectively puts a second amp at my feet. It's fabulous on its own but I stack a J Rockett Audio Archer Ikon into it and it's the blues/southern rock tone I never thought I'd be able to achieve. It was actually kind of an emotional experience when I went for some big bends and cranked lead tones. Thank you Doc for making a pedal that captures the sound of "the south".
