Capture Classic Uni-Vibe Tones in a New Ultra Light

Much more than a re-creation of the legendary Uni-Vibe effect, Strymon’s UltraViolet Vintage Vibe chorus and vibrato pedal elevates classic rock’s most psychedelic effect with a significantly enhanced control section and modernized features. This pedal starts with an extraordinarily precise digital replica of the original Uni-Vibe’s Chorus and Vibrato modes, then ups the ante with a more subtle Blend mode — a 70/30 split of your dry/wet signal, as opposed to the 50/50 split of Chorus mode. Speed, Intensity, and Volume significantly increase your ability to sculpt and shape Uni-Vibe tones to your liking. Meanwhile, Strymon’s addition of a 3-position Bias switch drastically alters the UltraViolet’s voice by modifying the center frequency of the effect’s sweep. You also get all the cutting-edge benefits inherent to Strymon’s compact pedal lineup, including full MIDI implementation, a premium discrete analog input preamp, 300 presets, USB-C, and mono/stereo operation. Compact, versatile, and beaming with vintage-accurate swirl — Strymon’s UltraViolet is a must-have pedal for any Uni-Vibe fanatic.

Two vintage-accurate modes and an all-new Blend setting

Like the original unit of inspiration, the UltraViolet sports a Chorus and a Vibrato mode, modeled after the original Uni-Vibe. Strymon also includes an all-new “Blend” mode that produces a subtler effect.

  • Chorus mode: This setting supplies the legendary swirl effect so famously used by guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix and David Gilmour. Essentially, chorus mode mixes your dry signal with a phase-shifted signal, resulting in funky asymmetrical phase-shifting tones. Despite its name, “Chorus” mode doesn’t exactly sound like any traditional chorus effect — the name is primarily a tribute to the Chorus/Vibrato switch found on the original Uni-Vibe.
  • Vibrato mode: When you set UltraViolet to Vibrato mode, you’ll revel in a seasick 100% wet haze. From a slight pulse of pitch to warped psychedelic madness, Vibrato mode offers a truly dazzling array of sonic possibilities.
  • Blend mode: A bold new addition to the Uni-Vibe formula, Blend mode replaces the 50/50 mix of the dry/phase chorus signal with a 70/30 mix. The result? A more subtle sound that Sweetwater guitarists find is just a tad more versatile than Chorus mode.

Pedalboard-friendly enclosure

While the UltraViolet may clock in at a significantly smaller size than your typical Strymon box, this pedal boasts the same world-class build and industry-defining tone as any of its full-size Strymon siblings. A discrete JFET analog front end, stereo input/output, and full MIDI functionality allow the UltraViolet to hang with any top-end delay pedal on the market. Next, an electromechanical relay-switched true bypass operation delivers a 100% uncolored signal when the pedal is not in use. Lastly, the UltraViolet grants you access to full MIDI and USB functionality for remote control via your DAW or controller, with 300 MIDI preset locations available to save your favorite settings.

Strymon UltraViolet Vintage Vibe Chorus and Vibrato Pedal Features:

  • An astonishingly accurate replica of the classic 1960s Uni-Vibe effect, bolstered with drastically enhanced control
  • Chorus mode perfectly captures the thick, pulsing Uni-Vibe haze made famous by guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Robin Trower, and David Gilmour
  • Vibrato mode unlocks a 100% wet effect that goes from a subtle flutter to pitch-shifting madness
  • All-new Blend mode replaces the 50/50 wet/dry split of Chorus mode with a 70/30 split to provide a more subtle and versatile spin on classic Uni-Vibe tones
  • Volume/Intensity/Speed knobs offer far more control than a vintage Uni-Vibe pedal
  • Bias switch sets the center frequency of the effect’s sweep, drastically altering the UltraViolet’s voice
  • Top-mounted TRS stereo input and output jacks and a mono/stereo switch
  • USB-C allows for easy firmware updates
  • Full MIDI implementation, including 300 presets
  • World-class discrete stereo JFET analog input circuit gives you a touch-sensitive feel and crisp response
  • Durable aluminum chassis is more than capable of meeting the trials of the road
  • Expression pedal jack can operate in a variety of different modes, including favorite, tap, MIDI, and an adjustable expression pedal mode

Everything I was hoping for!
What can we say about Strymon that we don't already know? They make a fantastic product. The Ultraviolet is everything I wanted in a Univibe and more. The tone is just perfect. Right now, it's paired with a Strat, DOD Bi-Fet, and Del-Verb Ambience Companion, going to an AC30. I introduce some delicate crunch with the clean boost, and I also take advantage of the built-in pre-amp in the Ultraviolet to create a beautiful tone. Fantastic pedal. Tons of possibilities. Highly recommended!

Strymon UltraViolet Vintage Vibe Chorus & Vibrato Pedal
Works GREAT!

That UniVibe sound
I have both the Strymon Ultraviolet and the Fulltone Deja'Vibe CS-MDV mkII pedals. I love them both. I think Strymon did a great job on the Ultraviolet. It's a digital pedal. If you want to go full analog, then the Fulltone fills that need. Both pedals have an expression pedal jack (which is a really good feature that some Vibe pedals do not have). I've had and/or tried several other Vibe pedals and the Strymon and Fulltone are my favorite "Vibe type" pedals. Both can produce the Trower, Pink Floyd, Hendrix vibe sounds. Both pedals are well built. Neither pedal can take an internal battery. The Strymon Ultraviolet requires a Center Negative 9volt 250mA power supply (the power supply does not come in the box). The Fulltone Deja'Vibe requires a Center Negative 18volt 50mA power supply (it actually comes with a 500mA 18volt power supply in the box). I have a TrueTone CS6 power supply on my pedal board and that CS6 can power either of those two pedals. For 18volts there is a small switch on the CS6 that lets you toggle between 18volts or 9volts. If you want the vintage UniVibe sound, I think you'd be happy with either of these two units. I recommend them both —— if you can, try them out and select the one that sounds best to you. I think they both sound great. I'm keeping both.

Strymon hit a home rune with the ULTRAVIOLET
Strymon came out with this just as I narrowed down my choice to 2 other options and was really happy, in the best of ways, that I had not made a choice yet. I took a chance, bought the ULTRAVIOLET when it came out and extremely glad I did. It really is the best of what any guitarist would want from a univibe....chewiness, volume control, dimension of tone and pairing with other pedals.

The Bias controls really expands options for your tone when you want the tone but less modulation. Simply put, it truly inspires to play and create!
Music background: Gigging and some studio work

Great Vintage sounds
If your looking for a vintage sounding chorus or vibrato pedal this does both really well.
Strymon quality is the best this pedal looks great and is sturdy.
