Hard-rocking '80s Tone!

If you were part of the 1980s glam metal scene, it was impossible to escape the sensation of Hollywood legends Ratt, and leading the six-string pack was guitarist Warren DeMartini. Charvel’s Warren DeMartini USA Signature Snake guitar honors DeMartini’s legacy, from the custom electronics and Floyd Rose tremolo to the stylish snakeskin finish wrapping the body. The Seymour Duncan Custom Warren DeMartini RTM bridge humbucker and Quarter Pound single-coil neck pickup ooze with glorious glam metal tone. Quality tonewoods exude warmth and resonance, and the comfortable speed-shape neck keeps you playing for hours. Not to mention – in classic DeMartini fashion – the stock Floyd Rose is perfect for extreme whammy usage, begging you to bend your strings into oblivion and back with perfect tuning stability. The DeMartini USA Signature Snake proves that glam metal is alive and well; now it’s your turn to take it round and round!

Classic Ratt tone in the bridge, full-force sound in the neck

As soon as they got their hands on the DeMartini USA Signature Snake, Sweetwater guitarists went straight for the classic Ratt riffs and were thoroughly impressed with how well it performed. The Seymour Duncan Custom Warren DeMartini RTM (“Rattus Tonus Maximus”) bridge humbucker easily handles the furious tone DeMartini is known for. A high-output Duncan Quarter Pound single-coil pickup in the neck produces a big, punchy tone with biting trebles capable of thick, full chords and piercing single-note leads.

Balanced body with a rock-solid neck

The DeMartini USA Signature Snake makes great use of the balanced, bright tone and resonance of its alder body, demonstrating why it is such a sought-after tonewood for many of today’s finest guitars. Pick it up and you’ll quickly notice the comfort and durability of its speed-shape quartersawn rock maple neck and 12–16-inch compound radius maple fingerboard, perfect for shred-worthy licks up and down the frets.

Dive into the depths with Floyd Rose

Fans of Ratt or anyone who’s heard DeMartini play all know one thing: he demands serious whammy action from his guitar. Everything from light warbles to deep-sea dives can be achieved using the Non-Recessed Floyd Rose Original Double-Locking 2-point tremolo bridge while keeping your tuning stable. Pair this with a heel-mount truss rod adjustment wheel easily accessible for fine-tuning and a single master volume knob and you get a hard-rocking machine ready for heavy metal warfare.

Not just for the Warren fans...

I've been playing since the early '80s, and was a big Ratt fan back in the day (especially the "Out of the Cellar" and "Invasion of Your Privacy" albums). Warren's guitar playing was a huge influence, and I still break those albums out on occasion to relive those days. That said, I will try and keep my bias in check. Of the guitars that Warren played in the 80s, the snakeskin guitar is one of the most iconic. Now his had real snakeskin, which Charvel could never get away with doing, but this one has a fantastically detailed paint job, hand done by Dan Lawrence. Dan is one of the most prolific guitar painters since the early 80s, having done paintjobs for so many well known artists, in addition to doing work directly for the likes of Charvel, BC Rich, and others over the years. The cheaper Mexico-made version, is not hand-painted or as finely detailed. Okay, this guitar obviously looks killer, but how does it play/sound? The neck is Charvel's "speed neck" and one of my favorites of all time. I don't have very large hands, and I find it to be the perfect size (I can wrap my thumb around the top very comfortably), and lives up to its name - it's built for shredding. It also has stainless steel frets, which is another key difference between this and the Mexico made version. Very smooth frets, which probably never need polishing - for me, any high end guitar should have stainless steel (PRS, are you listening?). The bridge pickup is Warren's custom Duncan, and it screams in all the right ways. Perfect for crunchy rock/metal rhythms and searing leads. The big surprise for me was the neck pickup. It's a Duncan Quarter Pounder (getting the name from the 1/4" poles). The output is high for a single-coil (amazing for leads), but cleans up nicely too when needed. The bridge is an Original model Floyd Rose, which is always a plus over the cheaper Floyds, in my opinion (I know that's debatable as to how much better, but I won't get into that here). I really can't think of a downside to this guitar, other than perhaps the price is just a little steep (as with most signature guitars), but that's where your negotiation skills come into play :)
