Mobile USB-C Audio/MIDI Interface from TASCAM

The TASCAM US-2x2HR USB-C audio/MIDI interface (PC/Mac/iOS) brings rich 192kHz audio, dependable 5-pin MIDI in/out, and super-low-latency tracking and monitoring to your home or mobile studio setup. The US-2x2HR's two onboard Ultra-HDDA mic preamps give you 57dB of clean gain to capably drive most dynamic mics and onboard +48V phantom power to support your studio condensers. Each preamp features a combo TRS/TS 1/4-inch input with Mic/Line-Inst selector to simultaneously capture a rhythm guitar, bass, or keyboard as you track vocals. You also get MIDI in and out for interfacing with your keyboard controllers and drum machines. Perhaps best of all, the TASCAM US-2x2HR delivers all of these features over USB bus power — just a single USB-C cable (included) from your laptop to your interface is all you need for power and connectivity. As for monitoring, the TASCAM US-2x2HR gives a 1/4-inch headphone out and stereo 1/4-inch line outs, each with independent level controls so you can mix projects on loudspeakers or your favorite studio cans. If you're looking for a USB-C interface that's equally at home in the studio or on the road, the TASCAM US-2x2HR USB-C audio/MIDI interface from Sweetwater is worth a look.

2 x Ultra-HDDA mic preamps

The TASCAM US-2x2HR gives you two Ultra-High Definition Discrete Architecture (Ultra-HDDA) mic preamps to capture audio with extremely low self-noise and home in on every detail in your musical performances. The US-2x2HR dual preamps open up the possibility of stereo miking and near-far cab mic placements. And since each combo input can also accept a 1/4-inch TS or TRS connection, you can easily track guitars, keyboards, and line-level audio gear.

Supports sample rates up to 192kHz

Capturing audio in future-resistant 24-bit/192kHz quality is no problem when you've got the TASCAM US-2x2HR in tow. Higher sample rates means potentially greater top-end detail on vocals, acoustic guitars, and more.

Super-low latency

High levels of latency — the time it takes for an audio interface to convert your analog signal to digital as it enters your computer and back again in the form of sound — can render even the best interfaces practically unusable. Fortunately, this is no concern with the TASCAM US-2x2HR. The latest drivers give you latency as low as four samples over its rock-solid USB-C connection. In other words, you can monitor yourself through headphones with no trace of delay as you pour your heart into a performance.

Software bundle included

Whether you're new to digital recording or not, the TASCAM US-2x2HR's included software bundle is a major value add. This bundle includes licenses to Cubase LE (Mac/PC) and Cubasis LE (iOS), two great platforms for capturing music on the move. Cubase LE provides a cutting-edge music production studio, giving users what they need to get started creating music. Cubasis LE is a compact version of Cubase for your iPad, providing the same look as its bigger sibling. Plus, you also get SampleTank SE, with over 2,000 instruments and 30GB of content.

Reviews

TASCAM US-2x2HR
I can only compare this to my old audio interface a Steinberg UR 22 mk11 that was 5 or 6 years old
That served me well until it started shorting out and cutting audio on and off.

I use this to record guitar, bass , vocals, practice with plugins, watch YouTube videos, pretty much everything.
The unit has more output and a louder clearer input, I had to adjust all my plugin settings down a lot but I think they sound better through this.

It seems to work well with Windows 11 and Cubase 14.
The TASCAM US-2x2HR is a solid unit and I am happy with my purchase.

It solved all my problems.

My old interface was a common one. It created all sorts of static and pops. It was a giant antenna. I could hear the radio through it. I plugged this TASCAM up. 90% reduction IMMEDIATELY. It has a super clean signal through the USB bus. I couldn't be more pleased. Well I could… I do wish it had thunderbolt connectivity, but that's probably a big ask. I would highly recommend this box. .

Best audio interface
I've had this tascam for about 3 years and I stream weakly. Once I learned how to integrate this with OBS, I have never had issues with it or my stream!

My Take
I just upgraded to the new MacBook Pro for music production. To my surprise it only has 2 usb c ports. Go figure but hey, this interface says usb c. Wrong, it usb c to usb A so I had to buy my own cable. Then this unit also doesn't come with a power supply. It has a clean preamp to which is great. However the preamp is a little weak. Using my MacBook pro as the only power supply, I have to turn the preamp knob to at least 3 o'clock for a good input signal on vocals using phantom power. Using my Shure mic it has to be around 5 o'clock. It's easy to use. I like it.
Music background: 26 years recording
Great sounding device hampered by unreliable Windows 10 drivers
Overall, the unit sounds great and is a good value at it's price point. Feels well built with quality knobs and jacks.

Minor complaint: Knobs are small and grouped a little too close together making adjustment awkward depending how you have to position the device on your workspace.

Major complaint: Device randomly drops audio output form computer. My unit needs to pull double duty as I am working from home, and it has a terrible habit of dropping audio output as I am joining a call. I can hear myself, and the other callers can hear me, but I can't any audio from them-- or audio from any other programs on my computer. This is not just a Zoom or Teams problem. When the audio drops, its ALL audio from the computer. I used a Scarlet Solo for 11 months and never once had this problem, so I am pointing the finger at the Tascam unit and/or their drivers.

A similar problem flares up sometimes while working in Audacity, requiring me to unplug/re-connect the device or fiddle with settings in the computer to get the audio back.
Music background: Drummer; years of work in professional recording studio and at live events
