A Seriously Portable Full-scale Guitar

The Ultra-Light is the smallest and most compact full-scale and full-featured electric model from Travel Guitar. When traveling, the Ultra-Light Electric will fit almost anywhere — even in the overhead compartment of a plane. At less than three pounds, this axe can go where you go. And when it's time to play, you'll love the Ultra-Light electric's solid 1-piece hard maple design and full-scale 24.75-inch black walnut fingerboard. When you travel with the Ultra-Light Electric, you'll always be ready to kick back and play!

Exceptionally compact design, even for Traveler Guitar

Traveler Guitar is well known for their transportation-friendly designs, but the Ultra-Light model takes this mobile frame of mind to the next level. Its 28-inch frame is the smallest in the Traveler Guitar stable. You aren't, however, asked to sacrifice anything for this trimmed-down body. The Ultra-Light even comes with a low-profile leg rest that can be attached and detached very quickly and easily for playing while seated. And when you're done, just break it down, put it in the included gig bag, and away you go.

It's still a full-scale electric guitar

Even with its diminutive size, the Traveler Guitar Ultra-Light is a full-size electric guitar with a 24.75-inch scale length. The only time you should notice the small size of the instrument is when you're relieved you can carry it right on the plane instead of gambling with the potentially guitar-destroying airline or fitting it in your luggage at the last minute.

Great electronics offers professional-level tone

One place where the Ultra-Light isn't small at all is in the tone. The humbucking pickup in its bridge position offers a full tone with plenty of output for any situation. With as much attention as has been given to this guitar for its ease of travel, thanks to this humbucker, it's a fully capable electric guitar for rehearsal or live performance with a full band. Driven, clean, effected, or dry, you can get the tones you love with this instrument.

Reviews

Fun and Good for Its Intended Purpose

I do a lot of traveling, both domestic and internally. Many times, I come into town the day before a gig which doesn't leave time to prepare before hitting the stage so having gear with me to practice/rehearse is the only option (I'm not some savant that can just roll in and rock the house without preparation). I had a 10 day trip planned to sail the British Virgin Islands that would leave me at sea sipping rum until the day before a gig. I wanted to travel lite so I thought it was time to try a Traveler Guitar. I called my Sweetwater guy Evan and a day later the Traveler Guitar and its little microphone preamp showed up at my house. I've gotta say, it looks pretty cool in the matte black finish! I tossed it into my Under Armour carry-on backpack and was off to the BVI. No problem getting through airport security or placing the carry-on with the Traveler guitar under the seat in front of me on the airplane. It was very light and easy to carry the 2000+ miles through connecting flights and the taxi ride to the boat in Tortola. It takes up very little room which was good because the staterooms on the boat are pretty small. It also didn't seem to mind getting knocked around a bit as it stayed safe in its soft case. Once the boat moored in a sea bay for the night, I was able to see how the little Traveler Guitar played. I tried the microphone preamp that came with the Traveler Guitar with my in ear monitors (IEM ear buds). It sounded decent but decided to do most of my playing through a small battery powered desktop amp instead of the mic preamp so others could listen. Tuning the guitar and keeping it in tune was a bit of a chore at first, but seemed to get better the more I played. The fretboard feels good and resting the tailstock on my leg while sitting seemed to work good. I did not use the body brace that came with the guitar. The sound is pretty good for leads but the finicky tuning makes chords not quite in tune. Once I got used to the Traveler Guitar, I had a lot of fun with it. I was able to not only prepare for my upcoming gig but also have some fun just jamming to backing tracking and entertaining the crew and other guests on the boat. Yes you can tell that this is not my Charvel Pro Mod or one of my Les Pauls, but it did exactly what I bought it for and I am happy with the purchase. If you are a guitar snob, don't buy it. It is not made for playing gigs nor does it have the stability, tone, or playability for that purpose. If you understand its purpose as a fun and simple piece of gear for light travel, then get it! You'll definitely turn some heads when you bust it out and it does allow for easy gig prep while traveling. If you are even considering a travel guitar, buy one and try it. At $, it's not that much money and it saves you checking full sized gear while doing air travel or any travel with limited room (and patience) to carry larger items. I gave the Traveler Guitar 4 stars instead of 5 because of the finicky tuning, but make no mistake; my Traveler Guitar will be getting lots of use.

Music background: Guitarist/Vocalist/Engineer
Happy with my purchase.
Is playing this guitar as comfortable as playing a Strat or a Les Paul? Of course not. Just look at it. But it is very playable. The neck on mine is true. The intonation is correct. The sound is neutral, and there is no sound adjustment, so any modification of the sound must be done by whatever you are playing through. But this guitar fits into the overhead compartment on an airliner, or into a backpack. Try that with your Strat!
Game-Changer!
This guitar has really been life changing for me. I'm in my late 40's and always fiddled with playing, but being able to travel with this has really stepped up my playing. I'm a dad with a demanding job, family stuff, and always driving my kids to one place or another. Typically stuck in the car waiting for them to be done with whatever lesson they have. This works perfectly for those scenarios and has let me practice hours more a week. Additionally, I now take it on business trips and lets me play in the evenings without lugging even a 3/4 guitar (which doesn't feel the same).

As a practice guitar, it's perfect.
Great guitar for practice and travel
I wanted a guitar that I could easily take on trips without having to worry about getting stopped at the gate and having to check it as another piece of luggage. This guitar fit the bill, small enough to eliminate any travel hassles yet great to play especially with a little amp like the Spark Go. I've been using it at home more and more since you can easily play it anywhere. Takes a little getting used to it's size, but with a full neck and strap I found it quite natural after a little while. I bought the bundle with the tuner, strap and a bunch or pics. Well worth the money in my opinion.
Great purchase - far exceeded expectations!
Ordered this Traveler to help me get right back to playing/ practicing soon after shoulder surgery. Figured the smaller form factor would be easier on my left shoulder and minimize shoulder extension and outward rotation that might hamper my healing. This is exactly what I needed- and it's a great little guitar too! Set up was spot on out of the box (standard 55-point check) - action is low and playing is a joy with my busted wing! Neck and action closely match my Les Paul, and a heck of lot easier to access than my full size acoustics. Had low expectations on the plugged-in tone, since the single pickup is so close to the bridge. However I am blown away with the awesome sound of this thing through my Yamaha THR10!
Sweetwater customer service was exceptional - shipping was fast and the packaging was impressive, indicative of a process with multiple quality checks.
Completely happy with both the Traveler guitar AND the Sweeteater team!!
