Unprecedented DAW Control

The Solid State Logic UF1 gives you absolute hands-on control over your DAW-based studio. At the heart of this feature-laden control surface is a solid-feeling, 100mm motorized fader, further bolstered by dedicated transport controls, a weighted jog wheel, rotary encoders, and soft-feel rubber keys. Two high-resolution displays provide ample visual feedback of your DAW's track names, parameters, time display, and more. You also get a perpetual license for the SSL Meter plug-in, which you can visualize and control directly from the UF1. And with individual DAW profiles for Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Studio One, Ableton Live, LUNA, and Pyramix, plus full SSL 360° software integration, the UF1 is ready to tackle anything you throw at it. Whether you use it on its own or in tandem with SSL's UC1 and UF8 controllers, the Solid State Logic UF1 provides a deep DAW control experience and a lightning-fast studio workflow that's been unheard of — until now, that is.

Total hands-on DAW control

With the Solid State Logic UF1 at the center of your studio, you'll attain a level of tactile control you never dreamed possible with a DAW-based setup. This powerful control surface includes a console-quality, 100mm motorized fader, dual high-resolution displays, soft-feel rubber keys, and a weighted jog wheel, all encased in an ultra-tough metal chassis. The UF1 gives you complete hands-on control over your DAW's pans, sends, plug-ins, and more. Moreover, you can customize 46 soft keys to conform to your individual workflow. With the UF1, you get it all: intuitive DAW control and insightful visual feedback. The UF1 offers a level of physical control you'll rarely — if ever — find in a control surface of this size.

SSL Meter plug-in and SSL 360-degree integration

In addition to supplying you with comprehensive DAW control, the UF1 also comes with a perpetual license for the SSL Meter plug-in. This ultra-useful plug-in includes a whole host of essential tools, such as peak, RMS, and K-System metering, along with a stereo balance meter, a phase correlation bar, a Lissajous phase scope, a 31-band RTA, and VU and PPM metering. But that's not all — you can visualize the Meter plug-in directly on the UF1's 4.3-inch display, and it can be controlled directly from the unit. The UF1 also boasts lock-tight SSL 360-degree integration, allowing you to take tactile command of 360°-enabled SSL plug-ins like Channel Strip 2 and 4K B directly from the unit. Moreover, you can view your plug-in's EQ curve right on the UF1's display.

Control everything — all at once

We're blown away by the Solid State Logic UF1 here at Sweetwater. For starters, you can control up to three DAWs — simultaneously. And, since it includes HUI and MCU profiles for Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Studio One, Ableton Live, LUNA, and Pyramix, we found we were able to use it with any session we tossed its way. This unit's transport controls and jog wheel make moving around large sessions fast and easy. Its motorized fader offers precise control for writing automation and fine-tuning track volumes during sessions. A multipurpose notched encoder makes channel banking and mouse wheel emulation a cinch. You also get customizable secondary transport keys for adding your own personal workflow shortcuts. The UF1's dual high-resolution displays give you at-a-glance feedback of your DAW's track names, parameters, and time display, along with the SSL Meter plug-in and 360-degree-enabled channel strips, with the plug-in's EQ curve shown on the large display. You can also view gate and compression activity on the smaller display.

Reviews

Loving it
Everything works great, no surprises. What a pleasure to finally replace the good old (but big) Mackie Control after all these years with something that not only works as well (finally! I tried a lot of other options) but even better. I love all the modern features like USB and plugins, I love the solid feel of the faders, the button placement is familiar enough and smart, there's not a trace of regret in making the switch. Huge kudos to Mackie for setting the standard and lasting so long, and huge thanks to SSL for picking up from there and carrying it to the next level without breaking my workflow. I'll likely be trying out the other units in this series.

Nothing Better. Period.
I spent 28+ years as a professional recording engineer/producer, beginning in the 1970's. Needless to say, I saw many changes in recording technology and the record industry as a whole, and I'm grateful to have worked with so many great artists, many you would probably have in your music collection. During my career I worked in numerous world class studios in Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago, New York, and finally Nashville. In the later years, most consoles I worked on were either Neve or Solid State Logic (SSL).

I now have the SSL UF8, UF1, and the UC1 controllers for my DAW. Listening to shoot-outs between the actual 4K series and the SSL plugin unsurprisingly was very, very difficult to hear the difference. In the course of doing anything other than solo material (one voice or one instrument) very few would hear the difference and even if you did hear the difference, it would be so minute that it simply wouldn't matter to anyone.

If needed, I will buy another UF8, but I don't typically work with more than 48 tracks, so even one UF8 is easy to work with. The UF1 has many great features I constantly use and reference to, like transport control and metering, and the UC1 has a very accurate SSL channel strip for dynamics and EQ, plus the celebrated stereo buss compressor (also known as the mix 'glue' everyone talks about) just like their consoles, along with fabulous build quality, accurate sonics, and, functionality. The real point is, though, this eco-system is epic genius, as one would expect from SSL. I don't have to stare at DAW tracks and instead, can focus on the music with the SSL 360 software and hardware, which accommodates and integrates virtually all of the features available on their large format consoles and puts it all on your computer's monitor. It thrills me to feel like I'm working on those 4K and 9K consoles again.

If you're looking to build your studio clientele or create your own work that delivers professional results, this is the one system to aspire to owning. There is unequivocally nothing else out there that can compete with this.

Thanks to Roq Martin, my great Sweetwater Sales Engineer, for many years running!

UF1 is Great
UF1 is like a one of those gadgets that does 8things but intended to do one. I love the fact that I can use the soft keys to activate functions, like a mouse. Focus is the mode I go to alll the time, and The visuals on the meter Plug in helped me balance my mixes much better than I ever had.
Workflow dream
This is the perfect companion to the UF8 for complete complete, intuitive control over your mixes.

For years, I searched for the perfect replacement for the M-Audio ProjectMix, which was an incredible all-in-one motorized control surface & audio interface.

With the UF1 & UF8, SSL changed the game for modern control surface with the ability to get just what you need and/or expand as your home or professional studio grows.

What's not to love about ease to setup and ability to control multiple DAWs with the push of one button.

Excellent
As with all of the SSL equipment, this is excellent in terms of function, design and build quality. It works very well with my UC1, UF8, Bus+, Fusion, Big Six and SSL12. They work quite happily together - and with Reaper.
