British-style Tube Tones

Inspired by the legendary 2 x 12-inch combo amplifier that powered the British invasion, Universal Audio’s Ruby ’63 Top Boost amp pedal is loaded with jangle and bite. This pedal is an end-to-end emulation of one of the most iconic British amps of the ’60s, sporting Brilliant, Normal, and Vibrato channels that deliver everything from chimey cleans to all-out crunch. Guitarists at Sweetwater are amazed at how closely the Ruby ’63 re-creates the sound of a tube amp recorded in a live room, and this lifelike quality comes courtesy of UA’s incredible mic, cab, and Dynamic Room Modeling technology. What's more, each pedal in the UAFX series allows you to bypass your amplifier's preamp when the pedal is engaged via the special "4-cable" mode, supercharging your amp with two additional channels. For even greater control, the Ruby ’63 sports Bluetooth and MIDI compatibility to connect to Universal Audio’s UAFX app for enhanced editing, expanded control, access to artist presets, and more.

Three distinct amp styles

Ruby ’63 comes loaded with three different channels for a wealth of sonic possibilities. Plus, depending on which channel you’re using, the boost control offers a unique way to add some character to your tone.

  • Normal: Looking for a chimey clean tone? This setting offers ample headroom and simplified tone controls. As a nod to the original model, this setting’s only EQ shaping control is the Cut knob; both the Bass and Treble knobs are disabled. Turning the boost knob activates a germanium-style treble booster.
  • Brilliant: The perfect mode for guitarists chasing a ’60s-style British tube crunch. This setting has the least headroom and includes an extra tube for boosted treble and gain. In this mode, the boost injects a tape-delay-inspired style of preamp gain into your signal.
  • Vibrato: This setting is similar to the Brilliant channel, but with the addition of a deep, choppy vibrato setting. To keep things smooth and clear, this setting’s boost control adds clean gain.

Switch up your speakers

Part of the Ruby ’63’s magic is found in the dead-on speaker/cab emulations, bolstered by Universal Audio’s Dynamic Room Modeling technology. The Ruby ’63 comes loaded with three cab/mic/speaker settings, seamlessly matched to the three different amplifier modes. Guitarists looking to cover a wide sonic range will love experimenting with the different speaker and amp pairings; plus, when registering the Ruby ’63 with Universal Audio, you get three more free cab sims to play with.

4-cable mode offers powerful channel switching

Each pedal in Universal Audio’s UAFX series features a special “4-cable” mode accessible via the UAFX Control app, allowing you to bypass your amp’s preamp when the pedal is engaged for incredibly realistic tube-style tones. By hooking your pedal up to both your effects loop send/return and the front-of-amp input, you can instantly switch between your amp’s stock tone and your UAFX pedal routed straight into the power amp, effectively adding two extra channels to your amplifier. What’s more, Universal Audio designed this feature with multiple pedal setups in mind — you can connect any number of UAFX pedals in this configuration for multichannel madness!

Get the most out of your UAFX gear

UAFX 2.0 is here, designed to give you the greatest control over your tone and your live setup. With this latest update, the Ruby '63 boasts improved Bluetooth and USB-C controls for enhanced connection with Universal Audio's powerful UAFX app, new footswitch modes for intelligent preset switching, and USB MIDI control, opening a world of performance capabilities. Whether you engage the UAFX app to unlock deeper tone shaping and access artist-curated presets and effects, explore Live, Tour, and A/B-C/D footswitch performance modes, or connect with your programmable MIDI rig for access to 128 recallable presets and enhanced real-time expression, UAFX 2.0 is primed to elevate every dimension of your playing experience.

Reviews

Ruby 63 a! pedalboard Gem
Just love it! Sound, feel, and size, this pedal hits the mark. I highly recommend this pedal if you desire the VOX sound, this is the one. I've Dailey in Voxes on an Axe FX III and I've played through an Iridium and neither gets the realism of a VOX like this.

Almost forgot it wasn't a real amp!!...
Simply Amazing sounding!!! after having a very disappointing experience with another device, I was very skeptical jumping to another thing. Well, after a very meticulous, diligent in Depth, and very educated research I decided to give this pedal a try, and since they seemed very good, I went ahead and got the Dream and Woodrow as well. I connected this pedal to my studio and started setting up my clean amp base tone and it sounded great. Well, the real test came when Sunday morning came and I took it to use it at church since that was the main purpose of getting it, and OM! the sound was ridiculous!! clean, articulate, warm, seriously dynamic, almost real!!! seriously... Just amazing, UA took this amp modeling thing to another level...

Line 6 Powercab Plus 212 & the RUBY '63.
Running the Ruby '63 into a Line 6 Powercab Plus 212. It's taking a long time to dial something in. I'm getting close, tho. I've tried the Ruby'63 through my DAW in stereo and through the stereo effects return of a Roland JC-40. Still playing with everything and subbing in a Strymon DECO. The Ruby '63 sounds better than my English made Vox AC-30. The pedal has more "air" and control than the actual amp! UA offers free ir cabs if you register your pedal. Excellent quality tone and a ton of tonal options to top bottom. Yes, I also own an Iridium. As a Vox Super-Fan, I wish to offer the Ruby '63 sounds better the the Iridium Vox style tones. FWIW, an old Strat>DECO>Ruby'63 stereo>Powercab, sounds authentic and inspiring. The Iridium is now for sale. I left these comments purposefully general...your mileage may vary.

Ruby 63
This pedal is awesome. I needed a chimey Vox sound for church and recording and this takes the crown. It sounds amazing through the front of the house.

I have a Z-Wreck and I would say it rivals it. If you're on the fence, buy it.
Vox to Fender in a Stomp
Fantastic. Delicious. So much to explore. Love all the flavors of gain and vibrato I've heard so far. Comes with three amps and six speaker choices, each one changes absolutely everything.

I'm using the 4 cable set up which is brilliant. When it's on, she's an all Vox rig. When it's off, she's all Fender as it defaults to my amp's preamp, keeping modulation pedals in the effects loop. Endless possibilities and loads of UA as well as artist presets yet untapped.
