Salute to a Legendary Amp

The Silvertone 1484 Twin Twelve amplifier of the mid 1960s produced a uniquely glassy and characterful tone that’s sonic benefits are still being utilized by guitarists like Dan Auerbach, Beck, Dave Grohl, and more. And now, courtesy of Jackson Audio, all of that classic character is available right on your pedalboard. The 1484 Twin Twelve pedal is a dead-on-accurate re-creation of both the original amp’s tone and style, right down to the crystal red lens cap. The 2-band EQ makes enhancing that hearty low end or mixing in some bell-like treble a cinch, while the gain control unearths the realistic breakup of the Twin Twelve cabinet. Just ask our Sweetwater guitarists who’ve come face to face with the real deal — Jackson Audio nailed it!

From glassy cleans to natural breakup

The original amp by Silvertone boasted a warn tube tone that was round and glassy in its cleanest form, and that’s just what you’ll find when you run the 1484 Twin Twelve through your rig. The ever-present low end and midrange of the classic amp just comes alive, but when you’re looking for some high end, you’ll receive the rounded stature of the Silvertone’s more bell-like treble tone. Bright, but not brilliant — extraordinarily true to the original!

In terms of drive, this pedal mimics the amp beautifully, as the Gain control offers a gradual distortion just like the natural breakup of the cabinet would ordinarily emit. Sweetwater guitarists immediately noticed the natural roar of a true 2 x 12-inch from within the 1484 Twin Twelve, steering clear of any campy over-saturation that would otherwise transform the pedal into something it isn’t trying to be. Additionally, the beauty of cranking the Gain and fading the Volume is that you’ll unleash that growling, bluesy, tube-like, early rock 'n' roll distortion without having to crank a legitimate 60-watt 2 x 12-inch cabinet to window-shattering volumes. (Though there’s always a time and place for that!)

In addition to sounding fantastic on its own, the 1484 Twin Twelve pedal is equally great for injecting some warm analog character into the rest of your pedal chain. EQ your setup with ease, or use this stompbox as a studio-grade preamp or boost. Even for those who may own an original Silvertone 1484, this can serve as your perfectly catered overdrive footswitch that never existed!

Looking the part

We have to give Jackson Audio major props for nailing the design of the 1484 Twin Twelve pedal. Everything from the controls’ font to the red pointer knobs, the brushed steel and black-striped faceplate to the crystal red lens cap of the original “Operate” bulb — it’s a really tasteful tribute to Silvertone’s most legendary amplifier.

Jackson Audio 1484 Twin Twelve Features:

  • Warm, analog tube emulation with present low-end and midrange and bell-like treble tones

Reviews

Vintage Baseline
It is a sound in your head.

You know what you know, and you know that the next Marshall in a box does not scratch that itch.
You know that a lot of pedals might sound good, but they make your nice tube amp sound two dimensional.
You know that there is a difference between American and British amp tones, and that pedal makers have neglected the American sound.

If text above stirs something in you, the Jackson Audio Silvertone Twin Twelve might be your pedal.

The Jackson Audio Silvertone Twin Twelve can play clean; it can play dirty. It can spit, or feed a beautiful, full, vintage clean tone to your tremolo.
The characteristic of the Jackson Audio Silvertone Twin Twelve that I find most amazing is feel. It does not feel like a pedal into an amp; it feels like an amp. It barks, it growls, it claws. The Jackson Audio Silvertone Twin Twelve feels big.

I run this through '57 Fender Deluxe RI, Dr Z Jetta, and Headstrong 'Lil King. Sounds great with all of them.

I pass the the Jackson Audio Silvertone Twin Twelve through a Source Audio Spring Reverb and the Jackson Audio Silvertone Twin Tremolo (If curious, see my review of the Jackson Audio Silvertone Twin Tremolo).
Most faithful re-creation of this legendary amp out now.
I own and will keep the JHS Twin Twelve on my board for less gain tones, but this thing sounds quite a bit better and much more like an amp!
They didn't over design the inside and I admire that.
Well worth the $$

Tube Sound on your Pedalboard
This pedal faithfully reproduces the Silvertone tube amp my dad bought for me in 1969. I with it thru a Mackie board with 2x600w Class D PA speakers with my Gretsch Electromatic, Gibson Firebird, and Fender Stratocaster. I also record with it direct, or thru a '75 Peavey Pacer and a Mesa Boogie MKlll. I'm routinely asked how I get such amazing tone. THIS is it. I think it's a US Grant too expensive, but if you want a fabulous lo-fi tube amp pedal THIS is it.
Music background: Gigging musician playing guitar over 50 years.
very nice box, with a solid feel
It really does sound like an old Silvertone played at the upper reaches of its volume control. I haven't yet explored all the variations in sound it might be capable of, but I think it makes a great pre-amp for playing tube amps at usable levels. Better than a pre-gain control on any solid state amp I've ever played, and better than a distortion box. It also makes a Micro Cube sound like a tube amp, with excellent clarity and string definition. My brother says it's the best stomp box I've ever owned. So, a review and a testimonial! Thanks, Sweetwater, for the good price as well.
Nailed it!!!!!!
Perfect, no frills solution to nailing that vintage sound!!!!
