Pushing the Limits of Tone and Playability

Guitar virtuoso Nick Johnston's personal preferences directed the design of the Schecter Nick Johnston Traditional HSS, optimizing it for fast, technical playability. Equipped with a rock-solid roasted maple neck with a Vintage "C" neck profile, a 14-inch-radius ebony fretboard, and extra-jumbo frets, it's immediately apparent that this is an instrument built for precision. And while its playability is sure to appeal to rock and metal players, its HSS pickup configuration with two Nick Johnston single-coil pickups yields a universe of tonal textures to explore. Complete with a vintage-style tremolo for expressive bends and dives, and a Graph Tech XL Black TUSQ nut to make sure the tremolo action is as smooth as can be, you'll be amazed at the Schecter Nick Johnston Traditional HSS guitar's ability to respond to any creative impulse you may have.

Designed to support Nick Johnston's unique musicality

Nick Johnston's music ranges from dark and brooding to explosive bouts of joy, with tones ranging from sweet and clean to ferocious — all within a single tune. Johnston's albums have featured guest contributions from guitar greats, including Paul Gilbert and Guthrie Govan, and renowned bassist Bryan Beller. Get the Schecter Nick Johnston Traditional HSS in your hands, and its fluid playability and highly adaptable tonality will make it clear this is an instrument designed to channel your inspiration.

Plenty of inspiring tone to explore

To cover the vast sonic territory Nick Johnston's compositions encompass, the Schecter Nick Johnston Traditional HSS guitar is equipped with Nick Johnston single-coil pickups in the neck and middle positions, with a Diamond '78 humbucker in the bridge position. It's a tried-and-true configuration when you need access to sweeter, snappier single-coil tones and heavy, rich humbucking tones in equal measure. Even better, the push-pull tone pot allows you to drop the output for a more vintage tonality. Guitarists at Sweetwater agree that the Schecter Nick Johnston Traditional HSS offers an opportunity to unearth a huge sonic range.

Reviews

VERY HAPPY !

All I needed to do was to install my favorite strings, and I was good to go. No complaints, other than I think Schecter could

include a half decent gigbag for the price, like PRS did with the Silver Sky SE, At the same price point. Then again, it has locking tuners, which normally I have to buy and install separately. Also, I needed to buy some fret markers{$}, not realizing that I actually do need them at times, and the brass dots on this axe are hard to see when wailing. Bottom line is that I'm happy.

This thing is fantastic!
My lovely wife got me one of these as a birthday gift and I'm here to tell you that this thing is amazing. I have my reservations about ordering instruments online, but Schecter and Sweetwater QC sent me a wonderful instrument that was well set up out of the box (haven't even changed the strings yet). This guitar has probably the best neck of anything I've ever even played. Fretwork is very nice with more of the traditional "wedge" kind of finish than fully rounded. The bridge pickup is great but may leave the *ultra* high gain crowd a little unsatisfied. The single coil pickups sound very good but will likely be replaced down the road with a non-staggered pole piece pickup as the B and e strings are a bit thin compared to D and G. Locking tuners are a welcome addition and work well. The guitar stays in tune even when using the trem bar and doing wide bends. The fit and finish of the thing is really quite nice and competitive against guitars in the $1500+ bracket. Schecter has really nailed this one (again). It would be very difficult if not impossible to find a better value. In my rock star daydreams I am now a Schecter artist and hope to see you at NAMM.

STILL PLEASED
Just an update after playing this Jem for a few months. The neck/fretboard radius took a little while to acclimate to, after
playing other guitars; but boy, I love it even more now. One thing I have to note is that the humbucker will sing with distortion through my Mesa! However, don't expect the single coils to have that glassy, spanky crispness that a PRS Silver sky, for instance, has. Still, Well worth the money.

Excellent guitar
The build quality on this guitar was fantastic. Shockingly it was in tune when I took it out of the box.

The experience of buying through Sweetwater was great. They sent me pictures of the guitar while they were putting it through its inspection, and kept me alerted on the package delivery. The guitar arrived in great condition.

The guitar itself was perfect. The finishing features are all done very well. It really is a great guitar. It produces a surprising range of tones, from clear to warm. I think the ebony fret board looks awesome in contrast with the blue body.

I will definitely be considering Schecter for a future guitar.
Schecter - NJ series
1. Different headstock name: Check
2. Neck and Frets finish: Smooth like butter
3. Only 2 knobs: Check (simple and effective)
4. Guitar input jack location: Big Check!!!
5. Build Quality: Waaaaaay so much better than the common brand
6. PU: Awesome with split coil option for the HB
7. Locking tuners: check!
Awesome guitar and you don't need to upgrade the PU (IMO). Can't believe did not look at this Nick Johnston series before. Save your hard earned cash and get this instead of the others, you won't regret it! Once you hold it and play with it, you might end up getting the Tele Series which I am planning in a few months.
Kudos and shoutout to Mark Bruhn and David Winkert for their awesome and excellent service during the buying process! :)
