Signature Thinline with a Pair of P-90s

A collaboration between Jim Adkins and Fender, the Jim Adkins JA-90 Telecaster Thinline is a re-creation of Adkins' old TC-90 — with some special touches specifically for this signature model. The Jim Adkins JA-90 Telecaster Thinline's semi-hollow ash body is joined to a set maple neck with an Indian laurel fretboard — a great combination that produces a warm tone with a nice edge. Pickups are Seymour Duncan soapbar pickups, and an Adjusto-matic bridge with anchored tailpiece round out the hardware. The Jim Adkins JA-90 Telecaster Thinline is a sweet axe for any style!

The story behind this Tele

When Jim Adkins, guitarist and frontman for Jimmy Eat World, challenged Fender to design his perfect guitar, a collaboration began that resulted in the JA-90 Telecaster Thinline. Fender sat down with Adkins and went over his old Fender TC-90 spec by spec, making some important changes that subsequently produced this unique model. The significant features include a maple neck set into a semi-hollow ash body, Seymour Duncan soapbar pickups, independent volume and tone controls, an Adjusto-Matic bridge, and an anchored tailpiece.

Built for vibrant tone

The semi-hollow ash body merges classic Tele tone with the added body and resonance of a semi-hollowbody guitar. The set maple neck bolsters the sustain, and the Indian Laurel fretboard adds warmth to the tone. A pair of Seymour Duncan soapbars provide vintage-tinged P-90 tones that cut through the mix.

Fender Jim Adkins JA-90 Telecaster Thinline Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • Re-creation of Jim Adkins' TC-90 guitar
  • Set neck with Modern "C" Shape is a player-favorite combination
  • Seymour Duncan SP90-1NRWRP Vintage P-90 (Neck) and SP90-3B Custom P-90 (Bridge) pickups deliver rich, vibrant tone
  • Individual volume and tone controls allow for unlimited sonic combinations
  • Oversized strap buttons help prevent disasters on stage
  • Jim Adkins signature on back of headstock

Reviews

Jim Adkins JA-90 Telecaster Thinline
I took Betty (Named after Betty White) out for her maiden voyage at the Rocky 98.5 Battle of the Bands at the York Interstate State Fair in York Pennsylvania. My plan was to open up our set with Betty and then go to my PRS. I realized quickly that this sweetheart was gonna play the entire show! The JA-90 Telecaster Thinline is an amazing guitar and was ready to play right out of the box! She was set up, dialed in and ready to play live in front of 8000 music fans! The customer service was very professional, informative and delivery was quick. My experience with Sweetwater and Betty has been wonderful.

Worship staple
I absolutely LOVE this Jim Adkins signature model telecaster it feels like a Gibson (neck wise) and has so much power and punch with the P90's. I have been using this guitar for contemporary worship music for nearly 10yrs and out of my line up of hollows, jags, gibsons I ALWAYS pick up this tele when I go out on stage. Its got great clarity and grit to send punching tasteful lead hooks and driving melodic rhythms. i highly recommend this guitar to anyone who wants to play everything from rock, worship, metal, etc I diversely play this amazing guitar (everything from jimmy eat world to gojira). I was lucky enough to snag a crimson red back in the day although they look great in every finish. Also worth mentioning this is an Indonesian fender, i don't know what they are doing over seas but my goodness the quality control is phenomenal! Great job fender team and craftsmen over seas!

You Cannot Go Wrong
This is by far one of the best guitars out there. This thing will do everything you want. When my band records music we usually use this guitar for all the recordings cause it just sounds so good, is nice and loud, and stays in tune through a hurricane earthquake tornado
P90 snarl

Not chime, not girth and very little twang. What? Edge, punch and snarl. Great for standing out in a mix. Punk. Power pop. Some hotter country licks. A P90 in this body type is unique. It's a niche maybe, but punches. Neck is on the fuller side, more 50s Gibson. Poly paint and non-locking tuners make this an iffy $ . Pickups are definitely ok, but after market P90s would make it more versatile.
