Combines Classic Character with Modern Style
The luthiers at Fender’s Custom Shop have consistently demonstrated their expertise in blending vintage and contemporary details to craft guitars with unparalleled sonic profiles. Sweetwater’s guitar gurus report that this Tomatillo Tele has spared no effort here, oozing with character that complements the 2-piece ash body, and 1-piece rift-sawn maple neck. Scale all 21 narrow-tall frets across a compound-radius fingerboard, sported opposite a ’57-style soft “V” neck profile, great for thumb-over players, but versatile all the same. Tomatillo Tele pickups deliver some sweet heat, reinforced by an era-accurate ’51 Modified Nocaster wiring configuration. A reverse-angle Nocaster bridge features compensated RSD brass saddles, paired with vintage-style hardware that looks as time-tested as the tone of this tenacious Tele is time honored.

Sounding out with hand-selected woods
Hand-selected ash comprises the 2-piece body of this Tele, hearty, stiff, and with high shock-resistance, making it perfect for the long haul. Tonally, ash imparts a bright, loud character, with a solid selection of middle frequencies and clear, warm basses. The 1-piece maple construction boasts a brilliant sonic profile for both the neck and the fingerboard, delivering crystalline, cutting tones, responsive in the middle and upper registers and yielding resonant basses with rudimentary overtones. Great projection and exceptional articulation add spectacular dimension to the maple’s employment in the fingerboard. All together, these tonewoods create a constellation of well-balanced tones, with a strong mids, tight basses, and crisp highs.

Sturdy, time-tested construction
Keeping with their history-honoring ethos, Fender’s Custom Shop opted with a 1-piece rift-sawn neck, known for its versatile climate stability as much as its rich sonic profile. Classic stylings include the 1957-style soft “V” neck, great for thumb-over players, but ultimately versatile. A vintage compound-radius fingerboard features a range of 7.25 to 9.5 inches, colored by 21 narrow-tall (6105) frets. Vintage-style tuning machines and a reverse-angle Nocaster bridge (with brass RSD saddles) bookend the strings, along with a bone nut and a disc string tree to keep your tones tight and buzz-free.
Historically accurate heat
In order to bring this Tele’s versatile, bright character to life, Fender loaded it with the Custom Shop’s Hand-wound Tomatillo Tele pickups. Intentionally underwound and rocking Alnico 2 magnets, these single-coils produce some sweet, enriched tones. Under the single-ply parchment hood, ’51 Modified Nocaster wiring, replacing the master tone control with a blender pot. Use this in conjunction with the 3-way switch to dial in your sound through a variety of configurations. Should you so choose, this Tele ships with a Fat ‘50s control assembly as well, letting you choose how to make the best use of this stage-weathered axe.
