Classic Design with a Heavy Sound

At Sweetwater, we love the chance to explore the reimagined takes on classic instruments that define our musical odyssey. Squier has taken their ubiquitous Telecaster and done exactly that. The 27-inch baritone maple neck lets you combine the historic look of an iconic Fender design with heavy-hitting riffs and down-tuned licks. Presented with a trademark 3-color sunburst finish, nickel hardware, and '60s-inspired headstock details, this vintage design is the perfect contrast to the grumbling lows of the Fender-designed alnico single-coil pickups. The “C”-shaped neck is accompanied by a 9.5-inch Indian laurel fingerboard, boasting 22 narrow-tall frets for smooth, accessible play and offering a swift transition to the tenacious tuning of a baritone axe. Make no mistake, the Squier Classic Vibe Baritone Custom Telecaster pulls no punches with its bevy of bass.

Vintage vibe meets modern versatility

This baritone behemoth draws from the iconic Telecaster models of the 1960s, including a 3-color sunburst finish that is complemented by era-influenced headstock detailing. The nickel-plated flourish gleams across the hardware, from the vintage-style tuning machines to the barrel-saddled string-through bridge. Additionally, the Indian laurel fingerboard sits atop a vintage-tint, high-gloss maple neck, embellishing the darker hues of the sunburst finish. Ultimately, these design cues culminate in an unmistakable, deeply desired look just waiting to take you by surprise with its sonic spread.

Rock through the ages

Don’t let the familiar design fool you. Beneath its bright veneer, this solidbody hits low and heavy. A robust nyatoh body forms the backbone of this baritone’s bass-y breadth. This tonewood is often used for its similarities to mahogany, making this ideal for a powerful midrange, bringing out full heft of a baritone’s aural offerings. Two alnico single-coil pickups — wired to a sturdy 3-way switch — are anchored to this lighter-weight body, allowing for comfortable play and reliable resonance, without losing that desired low end.

Sound and fury from neck to nape

The neck is where you really decide if an axe is worth being your daily driver. This baritone Telecaster boasts a 27-inch, “C”-shaped neck, built to accommodate low tunings while preserving timbre, promising the sound you want, minus the muddiness of traditional scale at similar tunings. There are 22 narrow-tall frets that divide the 9.5-inch radius fingerboard, making for smooth play accessible at any range. To take full advantage of its Fender-designed roots, the string-through-body bridge — sporting barrel saddles — is designed for optimal resonance, ensuring that everything from your deepest drone to the hottest high register has plenty of room to ride.

Squier Classic Vibe Baritone Telecaster Features:

  • 100% Fender Design means unmistakable style at an unbeatable price
  • 27-inch baritone scale ensures low-tuning sonics, without the muddiness of a standard scale neck
  • Maple “C”-shaped neck enables smooth play for you, no matter your playstyle
  • Nyatoh body blends lighter weight with mahogany-adjacent tones to maximize comfort without sacrificing aural heft
  • Indian laurel fingerboard gives you access to 22 narrow-tall frets, granting easy access to every register
  • Alnico Fender-designed pickups reliable re-create the authentic Fender tone
  • 3-saddle vintage-style string-through bridge is designed to capitalize on the natural resonance of the body, bolstering tone and securing sound
  • Vintage design details, including the tint of the neck gloss, tuning machines, and nickel-plated hardware promises an unmatched, era-influenced aesthetic

Great Baritone

It's amazing what Squire is able to bring to market at an affordable price. The neck, fretwork, pickups, tone, and playability are all well worth the price. The guitar sounds awesome and stays in tune with no issues. The only change I made was a very light sanding of the neck. I don't love the stickiness of the gloss neck but two or three minutes of sanding fixed it completely. The neck is now fast as any I've played and was an easy fix. I'm sure I voided the warranty but who cares..? There are no other issues with this guitar. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Also, the baritone is a fun change and, thanks to the modest 27" scale length, is much easier to play than I expected. You'll find yourself playing differently but that's part of the fun.

If you're on the fence with one of these it's time to grab one.

Sweet little honey

After picking on my Baritone Tele all day in open C, I'm up with the sunrise tomorrow to do the same thing tomorrow. Sorry workaholics, it's a sick day with my Tele for me.
On another note, while this guy's marketed as a baritone, with the shorter scale length, lighter gauge string and single coils this guitar's capable of so much more than just that niche baritone in a collection. I may end up just parting with other standard electrics because this guitar can play very similar leads with so much more resonance and depth than you find with electrics nowadays. A very special guitar indeed.

Killer Baritone Guitar

I borrowed this guitar for a couple months and couldn't imagine not having one for myself, so I bought it. The build quality on these Classic Vibes is really great out of the box. If you're going to be taking this one out on gigs, I would recommend replacing the switch, pots, and jack, but other than that, the build quality is pretty flawless, especially considering the price. Baritone guitars are one of those things you don't know you need until you try them. They're super fun, and I actually have needed to have it for some of the gigs I'm playing. Highly recommend grabbing one!

Solid Baritone

Highs:
-Pickups and electronics; lil noisier than ideal but they sound fantastic otherwise. Good range of options available with pickup selector and tone control.
-Very comfortable scale length for a baritone…takes tuning down to F# no problem, but still manages to feel very close to a standard scale guitar.
-Cosmetics; nice binding on the body, tinting of the neck looks excellent

Lows:
-Fit and finish; inlays on the neck are supposed to be pearl but I can't tell on all but 2 of them because they have unfinished rough sheared surface and look awful up close... Fingerboard material was was really roughly sanded for the last ~3/4" down by the pocket. Lil TLC and the latter item was fixed easy enough, and the former…no one will know but you.
-Tuners; Ooooof…just yikes. Plan on budgeting for replacements.

With some new tuners, a setup, and a little bit of polishing this makes for a really solid player. Just set your expectations accordingly. Happy with the guitar overall, and as always very happy with service from Sweetwater.
