A Meticulous Take on a Classic Tele

The Fender American Vintage II 1963 Telecaster is a remarkably accurate take of a classic solidbody electric guitar. The '63 Tele includes a balanced-sounding solid alder body, while its year-specific Pure Vintage '63 Telecaster single-coil pickups yield jangly, smooth, sparkling tones with a distinct twangy bite. You'll appreciate the effortless playability of this guitar's 1-piece, "C"-shaped maple neck and vintage-radius, round-lam rosewood fingerboard. The American Vintage II 1963 Tele is chock-full of period-correct appointments, including knurled flat-top knobs, a 3-barrel bridge, vintage-style tuning machines, and a head-turning nitrocellulose lacquer finish on the body and neck. If you want to own a piece of Fender history, then you'll be tremendously pleased by the American Vintage II 1963 Telecaster — it's a dream come true for '60s-era Tele aficionados.

Loads of period-accurate appointments

The American Vintage II 1963 Telecaster is a spot-on re-creation of a Fender classic. This electric guitar features a solid alder body. This lightweight wood offers an incredibly balanced acoustic tone, yielding uniform quantities of lows, mids, and highs, and boasts a gorgeous gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The 1963 Tele's nickel/chrome hardware includes a 3-barrel bridge with steel saddles, vintage-style tuning machines, and knurled flat-top knobs. Year-specific '63 Pure Vintage pickups, a period-correct neck shape, and vintage-radius fingerboard round out the American Vintage II 1963 Telecaster's classic appointments.

Year-specific Pure Vintage pickups

When you plug the Fender American Vintage II 1963 Telecaster into your favorite amplifier, you'll be transported straight back to '63. This solidbody electric guitar's Pure Vintage '63 Telecaster single-coil pickups churn out the tight lows and balanced mids you'd expect from an old-school Tele. And its bridge pickup twangs like it's nobody's business. The American Vintage II 1963 Tele comes complete with master volume and tone knobs, plus a 3-way pickup selector switch.

Effortlessly playable neck

When we first picked up the American Vintage II 1963 Telecaster here at Sweetwater, we were blown away by its effortless playability. The '63 Tele's 1-piece, "C"-shaped maple neck vaunts Goldilocks dimensions — not too big, not too small — for an eminently comfortable playing experience. You also get a round-lam rosewood fingerboard with a vintage 7.25-inch radius and 21 vintage-tall frets. The neck features a natural color, and it's finished with eye-catching nitrocellulose lacquer.

Wicked Guitar
Nothing more needs to be said, other than thank you Fender.
One the best I’ve played in years
They really did a great job on these vintage series guitars. Fit and finish on mine was perfect, played great right out of the box.

There is something special with these pickups. You get a really nice smooth airy tone. Plenty of bite when running with more gain.

Since getting this, I actually lean more towards it than my Custom Shop. It's just a really well done reissue with the true vintage specs.

Awsome player just like my 63 original strat

Awesome!!!
Wow... this guitar is top notch! I have had multiple Telecasters over the years and this one is special.

Love the concept of recreating a '63 Tele! To me that is incredibly cool and a big reason I went for this guitar.

The Surf Green finish is very nice and it sounds like a Tele should.

Check out this video I made for some playing examples!

Also, thanks to Sweetwater and my Rep Luke Herian for great deal on a great guitar!

Beautiful instrument, exemplary service!
Firstly I want to start by shouting out Mr. Ian Haas for making the whole process painless, stress free, and for working with me to get the best price and best delivery date for me. On this end I could not be more satisfied!

Secondly the guitar, the fact that this Telecaster is not a custom shop is almost terrifying. I know that a custom shop Tele has to feel even better to constitute the increased price but dear lord does this guitar feel so comfortable and solid. The fingerboard edges are rolled and I was not expecting that. There is no harsh edge digging into my hand. No sharp fret ends. The guitar just feels solidly put together. Nothing moves, nothing feels loose, no creaking or slight shifting of the neck in the pocket. No lacquer inconsistencies. The nut is polished to a silky smooth texture. I could not find any finish flaws on any part of the guitar. I've had guitars that felt like parts put together, dumb to say I know, but this Tele feels like its always been a Tele. Everything has stopped being mere parts and is a guitar, I don't know how to explain it. The neck is a skinnier neck for sure but it's also not a super skinny neck, it fits the hand so nicely and is rounded beautifully. the nitro that envelops the entire guitar also has such a nice feel. The guitar is just a pleasure to hold in my hands, its so comfortable. The only gripe I can give the guitar is that the pickup selector switch wont stay on, the teeth inside looked to be bent or chewed up a bit but I feel like that's part of the course for switch tips. otherwise flawless.

When I opened the cast for the first time I was pleasantly surprised to see that the fretboard was actually much darker then the pictures. I think Sweetwater uses very good professional lighting for their photography section and the fretboard looked a little dull and light in the photos. I was ready to accept it and hope that some fretboard oil would take care of it. When I opened the case though I saw that it would not be necessary. The fretboard is exactly what you want from rosewood, its perfect, honestly couldn't have been any happier once I began to play this Tele. Its exactly what a Telecaster should be and has always been in my mind.

Oh and it sounds like a proper brighter Tele.
