The Chicago Sound Meets a Dual-bore Rotary Valve
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra has gained worldwide fame for its low brass section. With each outing, the audience experiences a brash low-end with remarkable power and surgical precision. Capturing the Chicago sound led the designers at Shires to create a specialized design that became the TBCHDB Chicago Model trombone. This version of the Chicago Model comes with a dual-bore rotary valve, instead of the axial flow valve that appears on the standard TBCH trombone. The 1-piece gold brass bell delivers a rich, colorful, and complex sound. An expertly fit and lightweight TB47NLW nickel silver handslide offers exceptional playability and brilliant articulation. Of course, the TBCHDB Chicago Model also includes an F attachment with an open wrap for lessened resistance. And since it’s an S.E. Shires trombone, every handcrafted component is thoroughly play-tested before being released from the workshop. Sweetwater suggests the TBCHDB Chicago Model for players in need of a trombone capable of extreme volume without smearing and breakup.

CHI bell delivers a rich sound
For the TBCHDB Chicago Model, S.E. Shires created a specialized bell design — the CHI bell. It’s a 1-piece, medium-weight, gold brass bell that offers a warmer sound with refined harmonics. The bell is shaped using time-honored hand-hammering techniques and features a TII (Tenor 2 Taper) taper. TII tapers have a broader bell throat in the old-school Elkhart style. The bell comes with a traditionally brazed seam and soldered bead for razor-sharp articulation. When you play the TBCHDB Chicago Model, you’ll appreciate the expansive, rich sound with unmatched clarity at all dynamic levels.

Customize your instrument with interchangeable leadpipes
S.E. Shires strives for perfection with every instrument they craft. However, every player’s preference is entirely unique. So how does a manufacturer ensure that a player will love their trombone? By offering extra leadpipe options, of course! S.E. Shires makes three interchangeable trombone leadpipes (sold separately) that allow you to customize the trombone’s response to fit your preference. Aside from customizing the response of your trombone, each leadpipe also has its own sound. If your next project requires a slightly different sound, just thread in the appropriate leadpipe and get playing!
