24 Channels of Robust Sound with Pro-quality Features

The Trident Series 68 supplies an excellent analog front end for your digital studio, along with the core features you need for pro-quality tracking and mixing. This semi-modular, 24-channel analog console boasts a split/inline design that evokes Trident’s late- ‘60s A-Range models. Its wide-bandwidth preamps sound incredible on every source, exhibiting low noise, low distortion, a high slew rate, and lots of headroom. Every channel on the Series 68 includes a feature-laden 3-band EQ, which puts loads of sound-shaping potential at your fingertips. What’s more, its master section ensures an unencumbered workflow and includes monitor management, talkback, and more. The Trident Series 68 has the robust sound quality and professional feature set you need to meet your studio’s every demand.

24-channel, semi-modular design

The Series 68 boasts a similar chassis design to Trident’s Series 78 analog consoles, along with an LED bar-graph meter bridge. That said, the Series 68’s semi-modular design makes it more cost effective than its predecessor. All of its input channels are on individual boards — faders included — each in an 8-channel pack. Subgroups are also on individual boards — faders also included — each in an 8-channel pack. And its master channel is on an individual channel, separated from all of the others.

Flexible, split/inline design

At mixdown, the inline channel strips of the Trident Series 68 accommodate two inputs each. Plus, the split-console-style monitor/group section enables the monitor channels to be used as bus masters, as monitor inputs, or as additional line inputs while mixing. So, what this all amounts to is a generous number of inputs at mixdown. The Series 68’s conventional control layout feels familiar to any engineer who came up on analog consoles, but there’s ample flexibility for integrating it into modern DAW-based studio configurations.

Powerful, flexible 3-band EQs

Ported from the Series 80 consoles, the Series 68’s channel equalizers provide three bands with ±15dB of boost or cut, generally following Trident's classic EQ topography. In addition to sounding great, this EQ provides a great deal of sound-sculpting muscle. The high and low bands are shelving. HF hinge points are selectable at 1kHz and 15kHz; LF at 40Hz and 650Hz. The sweepable mid band is peaking. There's also a 50Hz highpass filter to roll off unwelcome low-frequency mud and rumble.

High quality, wide-bandwidth preamps

The engineers here at Sweetwater love the sound of the Trident Series 68’s high-quality, wide-bandwidth preamps. No matter what you’re tracking, you’ll benefit from loads of headroom, as well as low noise, low distortion, and a high slew rate. You also get 65dB of preamp gain — enough for most modern microphones — and 48V phantom power for your condenser mics.

Feature-packed master section

The Series 68’s master section is straightforward and ensures an unencumbered workflow. It handles all of your monitor management duties and includes main and alternative monitor control, along with mute, dim, and mono controls. Eight subgroups make mixing clusters of inputs a breeze. You also get two 2-track returns, subgroup monitor returns, one stereo auxiliary return, and eight stereo FX returns. Monitoring with cans? No problem. The Series 68 includes an onboard headphone amplifier with a separate gain control. Built-in talkback and a selectable insert return complete the package.

Stellar board!
Year two with the console. It replaced a Sondcraft Ghost. I used the ghost for 20 years and loved its flexibility and overall ergonomics and sound. The Trident 68 is a cut above. Everything from the mic pres to the bussing to the eq and monitors sends all work amazingly well. Especially given what I paid for my 24 ch. I did arrive w a rad damage and found out quickly how easily it was to remove a channel. It took all of 25 minutes to do the whole job! The people at PMI are the best!! You will not be sorry if you invest your money in this board. It sounds better than an SSL IMO. More character. It is best used ALL THE TIME!

Unbeatable deal
This desk has blown past my expectations. The mic pres and EQ's far better than they should for this price point. Really impressed with the connectivity, simplicity and quality. Centerpiece of my studio!

Great console!
I've had the Trident 68 for a few months now and am thrilled with it. It replaced a Yamaha RM 800 board, which I still have and is also a great console, just not to the level of the Trident. So what do I like about the Trident? Clean mic pre's with a lot of headroom. Even with the headroom, it's possible to push into the red; as long as you have your AD converter set right, you still get a nice sound with a little saturation. The EQs are amazing and have a very nice musical quality to them...I have found that I use less of my outboard and plug-in EQs since I started with the Trident. The inline console, combined with the 6 aux sends, 8 group sends, and stereo fx returns give you a lot of options when mixing. The stereo fx returns are in line with the group sends, so that can be a limiting factor during mixdown; once I got my head around that it was easy to develop ways to make it work for me. The DB25 connections do make it easy to control the cable farm (although I did have to invest in a lot of new cables with DB25 connections lol). The rear master in/out with DB25 connections did make it a challenge for setting up my monitoring and other processes, solved though by using my patch bay. Overall I am very happy with it, and the artists I've worked with love the sound we're getting from it. We have tracked Americana/folk rock, rock, reggae-funk, and a flamenco guitar player with it and it serves them all beautifully.

Beautiful Console
Wonderful mixing experience with this desk. Decided to go fully out of the box mixing and this baby makes it happen with ease and elegance. I haven't really maxed this out yet,as far as complementary outboard gear in my collection, (started with the RND Portico and that is a marvelous combo, it's almost giving me a finished mix end result by itself), but everything that I've tried meets or exceeds expectations. Great ergonomics, solidly built. Metering is great. Headroom, clarity, solid EQs, lots of routing options. Great buy and could not be happier. Sound on Sound has a great review for more detail, and with which I concur.
