Go Super-Sonic with Fender!

Fender turned heads a few years back when they crammed two classic amps and the high-gain crunch of modern amps into one box. Well, they re-tooled the Super-Sonic, dropping it down to 22 watts, and giving this latest incarnation a fatter tone and more bass. With a passel of tubes and two channels, you can dial in your perfect guitar tone. The Super-Sonic 22 is designed for serious players desiring modern high-gain tones and industry-standard Fender clean tones - and it delivers it all perfectly! The Super-Sonic 22 is built around a 22-watt all-tube amp driving a single 12" speaker. The Super-Sonic 22 boasts a 6V6 power section that offers up a deluxe reverb-style feel with moderate output. Like its big brother, the Super-Sonic 22 can conjure everything from classic clean to face-melting high-gain tones.

Fender Super-Sonic 22 1 x 12" Combo Amp Features at a Glance:
  • 22-watt tube amp
  • 8-ohm output
  • 1 x 12" 50-watt Fender Lightning Bolt Speaker by Eminence

Reviews

Best sounding amp I've used, by far
When I was ready to step up to an all tube amp I called Bryan because I knew I'd get great advice. He asked a series of questions to help focus on some options. Separate from the amp review, I love this about Sweetwater. He didn't try to sell me something he wanted to sell, he found out what I wanted and helped me choose.

This amp is loud! It goes from super clean Fender sounds to raunchy hitting every note in between. I don't use my OD pedal because I don't need it. The onboard reverb is as good as I've heard. The only other sound I add is a delay through the effects loop.

I was worried that I wouldn't be able to discern the quality difference over my very nice and capable Boss Katana-100. I thought maybe I was just chasing the tube sound because that's what the pros use. The Super-Sonic just sounds amazing and makes the Katana sound stale by comparison. I've also played Fender's Blues Jr and Bassbreaker. The Super-Sonic is my favorite.

Finally, consider getting an attenuator to turn down the dbs without sacrificing sound if you practice at home. I use a Two Notes Torpedo Captor 8 to cut -20dbs off the amp. It helps but it's still a loud amp.

Super Sonic 22
This amp is very well built. You can go about anywhere with it, musically. The vintage clean is very inspiring. Was very pleased. Deluxe with a Super attitude. The overdrive variations are there to be had and enjoyed. Sustain.
Music background: 50 plus years most all classic and other stuff.
Fender with Muscles
I just bought mine used. It has to be an earlier model as mine has Vibroluxe / Bassman instead of a Fat switch. I have the foot switch with 3 options. All in all it is the second one I have owned and I don't remember my first one being this good in so many ways. I have so many ways to run this it is terrific. I don't have to run many pedals now which save setup and tear down time. The distortion options are all super.... I have been using my JHS power soak with this amp even though it is just 22 watts it is a louder 22 Fender tube amp watts... I have this and my Fender DeVille 2 x 12 ... they are all I need
Great Amp
I've owned this amp for a month or two & have gigged with it twice. very happy with it. beautiful clean tones & the best distortion / gain I've heard out of a Fender since my Hotrod DeVille / 4x10.
the stock speaker is fine. but I did replace it with a Eminence Texas Heat 1x12 speaker. and I replaced the preamp tubes in the V1 & V2 with 5751's. great amp ... won't break your back either. I've added a 1x15 cab with an Eminence speaker as well. overall tone is FAT ...
Music background: gigging local bars & clubs since 1975
This amp is incredible!!!
I did tons of research and I was on the fence on whether to go boutique, Mesa, or Fender. The mark iv and cali tweed from mesa were enticing but the price was a little high and it looked like I could get a very similar set up with this amp. I say that as a guitarist that prefers the cleaner/early breakup side of the tone spectrum. This amp delivers everything I need in spades! Beautiful clean tone, addictive early breakup tone, I am in heaven! I tried two speaker swaps with speakers I had on hand. I swapped a WGS 12C in as well as an Alltone 1250. Neither of them sounded as good as the stock Fender Lightning speaker. Very impressive!
