The Studio Controller that Does it All

The Behringer Studio XL is much more than a monitor controller — think of it as your ultimate studio command center. This high-quality controller is perfect for not only clear and accurate volume control, but also for source selecting, monitor switching, and easy studio communication. Equipped with two +48V phantom powered Midas microphone preamps and a low-hum, 192kHz 2x4 USB interface, the Studio XL is great for supplying crystal-clear vocals in computer-based studios. The extra-large volume control knob is armed with VCA technology, and it's powered through a separate, volume-specific high-precision amp circuit that provides incredible stereo coherency that won't degrade over time. When it comes to monitoring options, the possibilities are endless. The Studio XL lets you switch between three studio monitors with individual level adjustments so you can test the quality of your recordings from multiple locations, through multiple lenses. You'll also get two line/mic jacks, 2-track and Studio/Phones Amp outputs, and the option to connect a 2-track digital recorder, soundcard, mixer, and more. The Studio XL even features a talkback function via the built-in microphone, allowing you to communicate easily with musicians elsewhere in the studio.

Crystal-clear Midas microphone preamps

Behringer outfitted the Studio XL with two Midas microphone preamps. These dual Midas +48V preamplifiers are state-of-the-art workhorses that feature phantom power, ultra-low noise, high gain, and audiophile quality. Studio XL is a superior choice, offering versatility no matter if you're working with a home studio, a professional studio, or with a small component of an even larger setup. And the quality continues into the built-in USB interface with a 192kHz sampling rate and 24-bit resolution for stunning crispness. Additionally, this low-latency interface provides hum-free operation at up to 8dB less noise than competing products.

Precise VCA-powered output sound to multiple monitors

The jumbo volume knob does a lot more than look — it's actually VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifier) powered, offering a separate high-precision amplifier circuit to adjust your volume. The result is premium stereo and phase coherency, precise level adjustment, and accurate sound that will remain free of quality degradation over time. You can even use the dimmer knob to momentarily adjust your monitors' volume output without having to adjust your precise setting on the large dial.

You can also put that premium sound quality to work through any one of the Studio XL's three monitor outputs, each with individual level adjustments. These are perfect for use with a Behringer B2031A, a MS16, a Tannoy Gold 5, or any other preferable monitor combination.

Compatibility, connections, and communication made easy

The Studio XL is super compatible, offering an array of different input connection options. On the front side, you'll find a 1/8-inch stereo input for connecting smartphones and music players, as well as two headphone jacks to play back recordings with a guest. The backside of this Behringer is a "Grand Central Station" of sorts, providing three pairs of input connectors and an additional Aux Mix stereo input. Included in this setup are two line/XLR inputs that can be used in any combination, while offering dual-mono and stereo-link mode operation. Down the row, you'll find the 2-track and Stereo Phones Amp outputs, perfect for connecting a two track digital recorder, an extra soundcard, or a headphones distribution amplifier. Finally, the Studio XL boasts an impressive talkback mic feature. The built-in microphone and Mic Exit make communication with artists in the booth a seamless process — and it can even be operated via footswitch!

Reviews

Perfect for my setup!
So happy I bought this unit, I use a large mixing console as my center piece and I can connect both my interface and mixer to this unit. I also have 2 sets of different monitors that I can switch back and forth. It also plugs in via usb as a seperate audio interface. Happy with this product!

Great Unit
Five stars here! This is a great device for your mixing desk!
It's great for more than just controlling your PA volume - it's a full on mixing board with USB, and individual trim controls for three pairs of speakers. This unit is well made and quiet!~
This is a clone of the Mackie Big Knob Studio Plus controller - my write up is here: https://markurso.com/the-worlds-most-blatant-steal-behringer-reintroduces-the-mackie-big-knob-and-puts-it-on-steroids/
I highly recommend this unit, great buy from any angle.

Did exactly what I needed.
Good sound quality and combined two items in my studio with the interface and monitor control all in one.
Great performance, great sound quality.
I had an original version of Mackie "Big Knob" since 2016. In 2021 bought a more modern version of the "Big Knob Studio" USB interface I had been using till recently. It's mainly for interface and volume control from my Mac computer to powered Genelec speakers for in the box mixing. I had to have an interface that had a mono button as I check my mixes in mono all the time. Since I also do Zoom meetings on this same MAC, I also use the interface mic pre , A>D function for external mic for use with Zoom. Although the Mackie was very good and checked all the boxeds for what I needed, the only thing I did not like was that at low volume levels on the big knob, the output levels were slightly different. I worl=ked around this by reducing the input gain on my speakers so the lowest level I liked mixing at was about 10 O'Clock on the knob.
Recently, looked at this Behringer offering and thought I would buy one to check out since it had a dual channel VCA that actually controls the auto signal volume, not a typical dual resistive pot that passes the audio signal acting as a voltage divider. This Behringer XL's volume control tracks perfectly throughout out the range. I was also amazed at how much better it sounded than the Mackie. Listening to many mixes that were sounding vey good thru the Mackie, they sound so much more detailed and totally transparent on the Behringer. Although I don't use the mic pres for anything musical, I'm quite sure they would sound great as well... Same goes for the headphone outputs, very detailed and clean.
I would strongly recommend this Behringer XL. Great investment..
Fantastic piece of kit
Exactly what I needed for my mixing studio. Has every feature I could want. Now I can control the main speakers, subwoofer and auratone speaker separately.

But most importantly it sounds amazing. I am using the built-in sound card and the sound is excellent. Highly recommend!
