Kenny Wayne Shepherd's Signature Axe!

Pick up a Fender Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster solidbody electric guitar and take hold of the tone of one of today's most important blues rockers. A trio of amazing custom single-coil pickups give you soulful blues sound and the kind of responsive dynamics that seem to anticipate every passage you play. The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster's hand-selected hardware includes a Vintage-Synchronized Tremolo bridge with Graph Tech saddles that provide ultra-smooth operation. Complete with an early '60s "C" neck profile, 7.25" fretboard radius, and jumbo frets, Sweetwater is sure the Fender Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster will exceed your expectations.

Based on Kenny's favorite 1961 Fender Stratocaster

Taking his cues from Stevie Ray Vaughan and following in the footsteps of Muddy Waters, Kenny Wayne Shepard's unique, self-taught blues-rock style blossomed out of his deep and instinctual connection with his instrument. When this connection led him to his original 1961 Stratocaster, he'd finally found the expressive instrument he'd been looking for. This Fender Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster captures the essence of that amazing instrument, giving you a chance to experience the look, sound, and feel of a true blues prodigy's guitar.

Custom single-coil pickups deliver exceptionally dynamic tone

Given enough time, no two guitars, no matter how similar, sound quite the same. So, if you picked up another '61 Strat, it probably wouldn't give you quite the tone or the same dynamic response as Kenny Wayne Shepard's favorite axe. That's why Fender painstakingly analyzed and re-created the sound of his original pickups when they built the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster. Loaded with these three sweet-sounding custom single-coil pickups, the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster is sure to give you the focused and wonderfully articulate tone you're looking for.

Fender Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • The unique sound and feel of a blues-rock master's favorite guitar
  • Based on Shepherd's original 1961 Fender Stratocaster
  • Loaded with a trio of custom single-coil pickups to deliver totally authentic tone and dynamics
  • Reverse wound/reverse polarity middle pickup wiring for hum-canceling operation in the second and fourth pickup selections
  • Vintage-correct 7.25-inch rosewood fretboard with white pearloid block inlays
  • Vintage-Synchronized Tremolo bridge with Graph Tech saddles provides you with smooth and expressive bending

Reviews

This is a stunning Fender Stratocaster
I had been eyeing this guitar for a long time before finally deciding to purchase it, and I am extremely happy that I did. This is my first Fender Stratocaster, and what drew me to it were the unique differences it had compared to other Strats. Visually, I was initially drawn to the neck and inlays, as I have always preferred pearl inlays over clay dots on the fretboard. I was also looking for a single coil guitar tone that could provide a new sound among the electric guitars I already own (all of which are Ibanez). The guitar is absolutely stunning - it looks and sounds exactly as you would expect it to. The pictures don't even do justice to the transparent sonic blue color. The guitar is elegant and beautiful up close. The neck feels different from my other Ibanez guitars, but in a good way - there's just more there to hold onto. Overall, I feel like this was a great purchase and I can't wait to create some music with it. Thank you to Fender, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and Sweetwater!

My Perfect Strat!
First, I'm very appreciative of Mason Moss' input in convincing me to buy this guitar. Second, I commend Sweetwater for making sure it is packaged in a way that withstands transport abuse.

This guitar is simply awesome to behold I couldn't take my eyes off of it for a whole minute. Off of its case it feels light. The neck profile is perfectly right for me it doesn't make my fingers feel tired even after an hour of continuous playing. And the pickups my have been custom made for KWS but these things just sound perfect with the different types of music I like playing. I simply can't ask for more.

One more thing. Thanks for the shirt, Mason!
Incredible Instrument
My main guitars for the longest time have been a 2009 PRS Swamp Ash Special and a 1983 Gibson Les Paul Custom. To be blunt: I like humbucker pickups, and Fender guitars have never really worked for me in terms of live performances.

I've been eyeing the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster ever since they announced it a few years ago, but was never able to come into contact with one. I finally got to play one at Sweetwater earlier this year, and I was not immediately in love with it. I'm a huge fan of him as a player, and really wanted to like it, but the feel of a new guitar is pretty foreign to me at this point, and I had a hard time figuring out if the guitar felt stiff because it was brand new or some other reason.

Fast forward a few months: this guitar has been my main axe at several live shows, displacing my previous two main instruments. What a great instrument. The only real problem I had with it was Fender shipping it from the factory with 9 gauge strings (I generally play 10s and 11s). I was very happy with it with 9s, but it was difficult to go back to playing my other guitars with heavier strings during live shows because I was no longer conditioned to heavier strings. I upgraded this guitar to 11s. That was a huge improvement: the instrument still feels great (after a little bit of adjusting from 9s), and it sounds even better than it did from the factory.

Very satisfied with this purchase, and highly recommend.
Spectacular Instrument!
Drove to Sweetwater to play this guitar as I was a bit intimidated by the 7.25 FB radius. When the gutar arrived for me to play, the strings were rusted pretty bad and the bridge was lifted quite a bit as the trem springs were way overtightened (this was a demo sale, BTW). The staff went out of their way to make sure I had a good experience and was able to judge to accurate performance of the instrument by sending over to get setup and a new set of strings. I can tell you that this guitar delivers! The radius concerns were absolutely not an issue! I would place this guitar between an ultra and a custom shop. It feels vintage when you hold it and play it. The nitro finish is the cherry on top! FOr the record, I own 27 guitars and many are premium, top tier guitars. This one may have moved up to my number one spot!

Great guitar, even better customer service
Quickly, the Kenny Wayne Shepherd strat is a very nice guitar with good tone, very lightweight, and it's a beautiful piece of equipment. I love it.
However, the first guitar I received had a factory quality control issue so I returned it for a new one. THIS is where Sweetwater shines. The employee I spoke with was very courteous and I received my replacement the very next day, THAT'S the main reason I will always do business with them and not Guitar Center.
My only complaint is I only received a Bit O'Honey wrapper, and not the actual piece of candy.

It’s impossible to imagine a world without Fender guitars, and if you’re like many of the guitarists at Sweetwater, then Fender not only made the first guitar you ever bought " they made the last one too! From building the first mass-produced solidbody electric guitars and basses in the 1950s to creating some of the most influential amplifier designs in history, it’s no wonder why Fender is one of the biggest names in the business. As one of the world’s largest Fender dealers, we have countless guitars, basses, amps, effects pedals, and accessories in stock and ready to ship, whenever you need them. We’re always getting our hands on their latest creations, and there’s nothing we love more than to tell our customers all about them! So, whether you’re looking for your first axe or a Custom Shop creation, make sure to give your Sweetwater Sales Engineer a call at (800) 222-4700.
