An Updated Take on the American Professional Stratocaster

Fender's American Professional II Stratocaster offers multiple upgrades from its inaugural configuration. The lightweight, contoured body delivers a nicely balanced tonal foundation with a highly-resonant quality. This solidbody electric guitar's first major upgrade lies in the pickup selection. The American Professional II Stratocaster is loaded with a trio of V-Mod II single-coil pickups that pump out a vintage tone with modern refinements. An upgraded 2-point tremolo bridge and cold-rolled steel block combine to give you plenty of sustain and brightness. Further performance upgrades include a contoured heel joint, "Super-Natural" satin neck finish, and upgraded electronics. If you're looking for a guitar with a vintage voice and modern feel, the American Professional II Stratocaster is worth your consideration.

Upgraded pickups promote clarity

For the American Professional II Stratocasters, Fender's pickup guru, Tim Shaw created a new breed of V-Mod pickups. Fittingly dubbed the V-Mod II pickups, each pickup delivers all the classic chime that defined the Strats of old with drastically enhanced clarity and articulation. The American Professional II Stratocaster is also loaded with a Push-Push tone knob that adds the neck pickup to the signal no matter what switch position you're using. Run it through your grittiest dirt pedals or your cleanest amp and the Fender American Professional II Stratocaster will be right at home.

The new standard for professional instruments

After the wild success of the original American Professional Stratocaster, Fender's team of designers dedicated themselves to improving on the design. The resulting instrument, the American Professional II Stratocaster, features a number of improvements and upgrades that push the classic design to new heights. V-Mod II single-coil pickups give you classic Strat sparkle with unbelievable clarity. The upgraded 2-point tremolo bridge has a cold-rolled steel block, which helps boost sustain and adds a touch of brightness. Factor in the all-new "Super-Natural" neck finish, and the Fender American Professional II Stratocaster sets the tone for what a professional level instrument should look, sound, and feel like.

Custom Shop-influenced neck

The Deep "C"neck profile that you'll find on the Fender American Professional II Stratocaster solidbody electric guitar is a slight upgrade from the Fender American neck players have been in love with for years. By adding a touch more roundness to the back contour, the Deep "C" carve fills your hand perfectly while never inhibiting your technique. For added playing comfort, the back of the neck is finished in Fender's "Super-Natural" satin finish that feels fast and inviting. Your fingers will immediately notice how much control they have on the fretboard's Narrow Tall frets. For good reason, this fret wire is the most requested size at the Fender Custom Shop.

Fender American Professional II Stratocaster Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • Updated and upgraded Stratocaster for the performing musician
  • V-Mod II single-coil pickups deliver vintage-style Strat sound with enhanced clarity
  • Push-Push tone control adds the neck pickup to any position
  • 2-point tremolo with cold-rolled steel tone block gives you expressive playing options and extra sustain
  • Satin-finished maple neck feels fast and responsive
  • Deep "C" neck profile sits securely in your hand
  • Contoured neck heel enhances comfort when playing in the upper register
  • Narrow Tall frets play effortlessly

Reviews

Best Strat I’ve Owned
I've owned several Stratocasters over the years. American, MIM, and even a Squier that was surprisingly good. All performed well, but each one had a few things that I felt could have been engineered better or simply could have been manufactured better. This Professional II I recently got from Sweetwater has a build quality that surpasses any I've ever had in my hands. I believe it's the first guitar I've ever bought new that had a spot on set up requiring no additional adjustment. Tuning stability is way above average for a trem equipped guitar. Stays in tune for hours on end, not just a couple of songs. In fact I pulled it out of its case three days in a row and it was still in tune! The V Mod II pickups are a very balanced blend of vintage and modern. They cover a lot of ground tone wise. If you need, or simply want, a superb Stratocaster, I highly recommend this model. Many thanks to my sales engineer, Jim Ridings, and the rest of the Sweetwater team for another flawless music gear buying experience.

Update Review
In 2023 I wrote my initial review of this America Classic, and I stand by that review. I wanted to include an update: I've been playing in different bands, different styles if music and this guitar rises to the top every time. Playing through a Boss Nextone 80w amp with a Boss ME90 I can quickly go from 50's and 60's doo-wop rock into 89's and 90's stuff like SRV, Journey, GFR, FW Mac and it covers ALL so perfectly and stays in tune forever. It is my #1 guitar (tele, Les Paul and Guild semi-hollow all stay in cases). As I stated in my initial review, if you only afford one guitar this is the one to get, you won't regret it.

Perfect Complement to Tele Ultra
As a Tele guy, my #1 for last 5 yrs has been my Tele Ultra in Texas Tea. I also play an SG and an '09 Nashville Tele. Then I played in a band and the drummer said, "We need that vintage Strat sound out of you!"

He heard something in my playing and our other guy was doing the Les Paul/Marshall thing. Tried the Nashville, ehh not ballsy enough. Borrowed my buddy's American Pro II Strat and wow! Immediately this thing throws you back to the golden era of Strats with that sparkling sound that also fires up when you throw on an overdrive.

But, the special feature the push/push knob to bring in the neck pup. This lets you cut through the mix in position 2 then sound huge when a solo comes or the other guitar cuts out. Also, makes it incredibly versatile for recording. This now splits time with then Tele or SG depending on tuning and slide needs.

The greatest guitar in the world!!!!
Finally got my guitar and I think it's has a excellent quality and best ever sound. Thanks to the Sweetwater team for tuning and sending the dream of my life!!!
My #1
I have had this guitar for just shy of a year and a half, and have never once regretted getting it. Sure, it carries a hefty price, but it is everything you might ever need from a Strat. I love everything about this guitar, and I think you will too. It sounds great distorted too, which I had trouble with among
my other strats. Fair warning though: it may cause issues with your family or your spouse, as you won't be able to out it down! In conclusion, a great guitar!
Music background: Bedroom guitarist, aspiring pro, working on an album with my band right now
