The American Professional Strat Gets New Upgrades

The Fender American Professional II Stratocaster HSS offers notable upgrades from its previous version. The alder body is loaded with brand-new V-Mod II pickups for the ultimate in single-coil tone. A Double Tap humbucker located in the bridge is ideal for powerful solos and lead lines. You also get upgraded hardware from headstock to tuners, including a contoured heel for playing comfort. Enhanced finishing techniques and Fender's famous dedication to quality craftsmanship round out the design. The Fender American Professional II Stratocaster HSS is a vintage-voiced instrument that's ready to conquer stages — and it's right here at Sweetwater.

The new standard for professional instruments

After the wild success of the original American Professional Stratocaster, Fender's team of designers dedicated themselves to improving on the design. The resulting instrument, the American Professional II Stratocaster, features a number of improvements and upgrades that push the classic design to new heights. V-Mod II single-coil pickups and a Double Tap humbucker give you classic Strat sparkle with unbelievable clarity. The upgraded 2-point tremolo bridge has a cold-rolled steel block, which helps boost sustain and adds a touch of brightness. Factor in the all-new "Super-Natural" neck finish, and the Fender American Professional II Stratocaster sets the tone for what a professional level instrument should look, sound, and feel like.

Upgraded pickups promote clarity

For the American Professional II Stratocasters, Fender's pickup guru, Tim Shaw created a new breed of V-Mod pickups. Fittingly dubbed the V-Mod II pickups, the neck and middle pickups deliver all the classic chime that defined the Strats of old with drastically enhanced clarity and articulation. The newest version of the American Professional also has an upgraded bridge pickup in the form of a Double Tap humbucker. Running it wide open yields a punchy tone with plenty of character. With the push-push tone knob, you can get realistic single-coil sounds. Whether you're keeping it clean or getting gritty, the Fender American Professional II Stratocaster HSS will be right at home.

Custom Shop-influenced neck

The Deep "C" neck profile that you'll find on the Fender American Professional II Stratocaster HSS solidbody electric guitar is a slight upgrade from the Fender American neck players have been in love with for years. By adding a touch more roundness to the back contour, the Deep "C" carve fills your hand perfectly while never inhibiting your technique. For added playing comfort, the back of the neck is finished in Fender's "Super-Natural" satin finish that feels fast and inviting. Your fingers will immediately notice how much control they have on the fretboard's Narrow Tall frets. For good reason, this fret wire is the most requested size at the Fender Custom Shop.

Fender American Professional II Stratocaster HSS Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • Updated and upgraded HSS Stratocaster for the performing musician
  • V-Mod II single-coil pickups deliver vintage-style Strat sound with enhanced clarity
  • Double Tap humbucker pumps out punchy tones

Awesome Strat!
I haven't been playing very long but wanted to upgrade from my beginner guitar! This American Pro "also" does that in spades! I took it to a local luthier for a quick set up and it plays like a dream and looks great doing it! Highly recommended…even for the beginner like me!
Sustain for days with Classic & modern Strat tones. Light pine in a versatile HSS that is joy to play, once you learn to "drive it"
This is for the Fender American Professional II Stratocaster HSS - Sienna Sunburst with Maple Fingerboard- Pine body. I'm loving this guitar more every day. First off, when it first arrived I was disappointed. It was buzzy, and also the high E string was broken. Not a problem, but not a good way to start the relationship. I left it in the box for four days before opening so that it could acclimatize to the dry Arizona air. Played it for about 30 minutes a day for four days. The fret buzz subsided and it began to stay in tune better. An instrument needs to open up for sure. Day four is when I peeled off the stickers and accepted it into the herd. Give it a break-in period. Here are my impressions and recommendations if you get one.

The neck single coil is THE STRAT sound we've all heard since Jimi brought it out front 53 years ago to define the sound of blues rock. Same goes for the middle, bridge, and in between positions. The humbucker was where I had trouble making friends with it right away, but after learning how to use it I realized that it's balanced so well with the rest of pickup "system." Yes, all these parts are engineered to work together, so please don't go modding this modern masterpiece, because Fender probably knows more than you do and they got it darn right here. This is not a typical humbucker, it's pretty bright, nothing like the SD Pearly Gates I have in an HSH Blacktop Stratocaster mod. These pickups are very sensitive and nuanced. If there is one piece of advice I'd give, it's that you essentially need to learn how to "drive this guitar" and use the volume and tone controls heavily. If you're a set it and forget it player, then go for something simpler. The V-Mod II pickups are truly pro-grade and have a fantastic range of tonal options. It will reward you if you're the type that likes to constantly tweak your sound, because it's very fine tunable and is truly designed for folks with a sensitive ear for tone. I finally learned how to use the humbucker after specifically doing the exercise of only using the HB for a session. Once I did that I realized the range it has. Mess with that push pot to split the single coil bridge and you'll start to really appreciate it. It really makes push-pull pots seem archaic because it's way faster with this push switch and quite easy to see if it is up or down. The pine has a nice grain, and did I mention light? At 7lbs 4 ounces it's perfect. The neck plays like silk, and it's so easy to get around all places up close to, and under, beside, in between, over and every other preposition you could imagine. The output of the pickups is superb. Nice and loud and chimey and with that bluesy neck pickup tone that screams Little Wing. I don't know what role the pine body and the cold rolled steel bridge and tremolo block plays, but this Stratocaster has by far the best sustain of any I have ever played. You can go grab a cup of tea and it's still singing. The pop-in tremolo arm is a breeze and so an improvement over others past. I am seriously in love with this guitar now. Packed and shipped well from Sweetwater. For my first online guitar buying experience, I must say that I am happy with the purchase and feel immensely fortunate to be able to experience this fine instrument and participate in the evolution of the Fender Stratocaster. Thank you!

Good Strat, Best Value!
Bought Fender Stratocaster American Professional II HSS in Sienna Sunburst in February 2025, and I couldn't be happier. This guitar is simply phenomenal — the craftsmanship, tone versatility, and playability are all top-tier. The HSS configuration gives me the best of both worlds: the sparkling clarity of single coils and the powerful punch of the humbucker, making it perfect for everything from blues and rock to pop.

The gloss-polyurethane-finish neck feels incredibly smooth and fast, and the rolled fingerboard edges make long playing sessions an absolute joy. The Sienna Sunburst finish is even more stunning in person — elegant, classic, and eye-catching.

I thank Jared Atwood, who was incredibly helpful throughout the purchasing process. His knowledge, patience, and excellent service made the experience easy and enjoyable. I truly appreciated the care and attention he provided to help me find the perfect guitar.

This is more than just a guitar — it's an inspiring instrument that makes me want to play every day.
Fender Stratocaster American Pro II
Guitar is exceptional. The tan pick guard with the sunburst is stunning and why I picked this color. Love how light this guitar is. I had to do some setup which I am not accustomed to when buying guitars at this price but they were minor and I always check them for intonation and action anyway. Turning three screws wasn't a chore. Already installed the Fender locking tuners and I think this guitar is going to be one of the favorites in my guitar herd. Thanks J.D. for the great service and deal on this fine instrument.
