Sweetwater-spec'd Custom Shop Classic Enters Standard Production

Previously limited to Fender’s Custom Shop offerings, the Sweetwater-designed GT11 (Grand Touring) platform makes its way into Fender’s standard roster with the American Professional II GT11. This superb series of 6-strings begins with a standard setup of a lightweight alder body, ’60s oval C maple neck, and a rosewood fingerboard, making for a fine foundation for any vintage-style Strat. That said, the rest of this guitar's Sweetwater-spec features are anything but traditional. From the upgraded 6-point tremolo with a cold-rolled steel block to the string-tree-less headstock and the titular 11-inch fingerboard radius, the Fender American Professional II GT11 Stratocaster retains the eminently modern feel and performance of Sweetwater’s Fender Custom Shop GT11 models. Finally, we opted to outfit the American Professional II GT11 Stratocaster with a trio of Fender Custom Shop Fat ’60s pickups to capture the warm lows, rich midrange, and mellow highs made famous by iconic blues and rock guitarists from the early 1960s. Available only at Sweetwater, the Fender American Professional II GT11 Stratocaster delivers slick Sweetwater specs and Custom Shop class in spades.

A trio of Custom Shop Strat single-coils

Throughout the vintage era, Fender’s pickups drastically varied in tone from year to year — manufacturing consistency wasn’t quite as exacting as it is today! This resulted in endless variations between pickups of the same model, especially when comparing pickups divided by more than a few years. The Fender American Professional II GT11’s three Custom Shop Fat ’60s pickups exemplify this fact; they capture the sound of aged pickups from the early ‘60s, infusing every note you play with warm lows, rich midrange, and mellow highs. The slightly overwound, yet eminently vintage-inspired, tone of these pickups is guaranteed to inspire your best playing ever.

You've never felt a Strat neck like this one

Some necks feel good, while others feel great. The GT11 Stratocaster goes beyond great — you'll feel an immediate personal connection to this guitar. This solidbody electric guitar's 11-inch-radius rosewood fingerboard makes everything effortless. Play a chord by the nut or play a few licks at the 14th fret; it all feels the same — smooth and incredible. And the maple neck features a '60s-style oval C shape that fills your hand perfectly, no matter where you're playing. When we first got our hands on the GT11 here at Sweetwater, we were amazed at what a difference the 11-inch radius made — especially for players who were used to a flatter radius than a traditional Strat.

Set to Sweetwater Exclusive specs

Boasting a handpicked set of specs courtesy of Sweetwater’s guitar experts, the GT11 series delivers a tone, feel, and performance you simply can’t find on any other Strat. Besides the titular 11-inch radius, this Strat sports an upgraded 6-point tremolo with a cold-rolled steel block. What does that mean for you? A significant sustain boost, in addition to a sparkling top-end chime and clarity across the American Professional II GT11’s entire range. This instrument is also loaded with a push-push tone knob that adds the neck pickup to the signal no matter what switch position you’re using. Run it through your grittiest dirt pedals or your cleanest amp and this Strat will be right at home. While it may appear like a minor detail, the Fender American Professional II GT11 Stratocaster’s string tree-less headstock reduces the break angle of the top two strings to deliver a slightly slacker, easier-to-bend feel.

Fender American Professional II GT11 Stratocaster Features:

  • Inspired by Sweetwater’s line of GT11 Fender Custom Shop Stratocasters
  • Lightweight alder body offers a brilliant, balanced tone
  • Maple neck in a comfortable ’60s oval C profile
  • Rosewood fingerboard planed into a Sweetwater-spec 11-in. radius and finished with 22 narrow-tall frets
  • 6-point tremolo with a cold-rolled steel block enhances sustain and clarity
  • A trio of Fender Custom Shop Fat ’60s pickups captures the warm lows, rich midrange, and mellow highs of the early 1960s
  • Push-push tone control adds the neck pickup to any position
  • String tree-less headstock grants a slacker feel on the high E and B strings

Reviews

Awesome Strat!
This is my favorite of the three Strats that I currently have. I have a AM Pro 1 that I still love and a beautiful Sonic Blue Suhr Classic S special edition that also has a roasted maple neck. They are all great guitars, but I love the pickups on this one, they're the best sounding set that I've ever played with a nice vintage tone. I could go on and on, but I won't. It plays great and is beautifully made with a nice rosewood fretboard, smooth roasted neck and those awesome sparkly tones. What a deal!

Perfect Strat
Purchased mine just about a week ago, so have not had it all that long. That said, I've had it long enough to know that it's one of the best Fender Strat production models that I've ever had, and I've had a lot! What really grabbed my attention was the 11" radius. I used to buy competitor guitars to Fender because of their more modern approach to guitar building. Nothing like the sound and look of a Fender Strat that has the playability of a more modern, flatter fingerboard. It's just more suitable to my playing style. The blend push/push switch is a really nice feature, giving you a little more flexibility. The roasted neck on mine s simply gorgeous with some really nice figuring in it, and the rosewood fingerboard is nice and dark which I love. Really, really nice build quality on mine. Just needed a little string height adjustment to dial it to my preference and I was off and running. I recommend this guitar if you want those classic Strat tones with a more comfortable, easy playing fingerboard radius. Nice job Fender, nice job Sweetwater!
Way to go Fender
I purchased this guitar June 15th of 2025 "Fathers Day" and I'm glad I did. I've wanted a Strat in this color (Olympic white) for awhile....and although the color is stunning that's just the beginning. Mine weighed in at 7lbs 8 ounces, its the perfect weight and balance for me. Starting at the headstock, the tuners are just fine...I do prefer vintage tuners but these hold up great and being staggered they go with the lack of a string tree nicely. The slots on the bone nut were cut to perfection BUT I had to file the edges down just a bit....you know the edges near the first fret. The frets were nicely done....personally I prefer Jumbo frets but these are fine, they're smooth and the edges feel great with the slightly rolled fingerboard. The Rosewood fingerboard was a bit dry so after a little fb oil the beauty really came thru. The oval C neck shape is so comfortable it felt great...more importantly it plays great. The heel contour is a great addition and very comfortable......almost forgot the 11 inch radius....not sure why 11 and not 12 like the Eric Johnson Strat but I like it....

The fit and finish is just great, this beauty just resonates w/o being amped up....A Strat body is perfect (for me)....so there's that....the lack of a back cover plate is fine with me too!....I have an Eric Johnson Strat so I get it. Now onto the Tremolo it was nearly a perfect set up...I did play it for a week before deciding tp keep it...after that decision was made I changed out the strings to .10's it came with .09's after I changed out the strings I had to re set a few things...BUT it was so close to my liking I was giddy with nods to fender. They must have taken notes from John Suhr because the string height was inline with a Suhr set up...and pulling up on the tremolo bar yields a minor third on the open G....perfect! I did add the Verheyan adjustment on the back claw but I do that on all my Strat trem's....it really helps and after the strings are stretched for a day or so it stay's in near perfect tune and this is with whammy bar use.

Now the electronics....I love the push push pot on the tone that adds the neck p/u....nice touch....how did I live w/o that. these CS 60's pups are just fantastic....I use a variety of Tweed amps by Clark Amplification and these pups just sound great....the cleans are beautiful in all positions. For overdriven tones I have a variety of tools in the toolbox. My signal chain is Analogman BART sunface fuzz > crybaby wah > mxr phase 90 > tuner > Kingtone heavy hand that's always on > Maxon SD-9 w/ the Analogman mod > Strymon Flint > JD Rockett Clockwork > amp. Some gigs I'll add in my BK Butler Tube Driver...this Strat with these pups can cover a lot of ground and these pups are some of the best I've ever had.

I have been playing Strats since 1975 and IMHO this GT11 check almost all of my boxes....my preference is Jumbo frets...but hey once I wear these out I can go to jumbo. A small complaint is the side dots are hard to see on a dark stage...an easy fix but gotta find something to complain about....lol. Oh and I added aged plastic parts (pup covers, volume and tone knobs, etc.) personal preference....I just like that old vintage look on a new spankin guitar. Big shout out to my SW rep Mark Bruhn....he helped me order this serial number while I was golfing....haha.

As mentioned above I did my own set up although SW can help you with that, I also choose not to have them Plek it....IMO you shouldn't have to have that done coming from the Fender factory....and it didn't need to have it done....there were no flaws on the neck....no bad frets, no buzzing....again WAY TO GO FENDER!
BTW I had a Scott Henderson Suhr Strat that this GT11 Fender needed to beat out (couldn't keep both)...I was either gonna send the fender back are not....I wound up selling the SH Suhr....this Fender is that good....and I loved that SH Strat.....

Soooo.....if you're on the fence about buying one, I hope my rambling review can help you!

Comfortable and easy playing.
My wife and I were on a road trip that took us through Ft. Wayne so, I just had to make a stop and check out the campus If you can, do it.). My sales engineer John Tonello, came down to the sales floor and spent a ton of time helping me out with different guitars I was eyeing. I came away with this beauty. It looks great, sounds great. The neck is the star of the show. It's just so easy play on. I got to compare the custom shop version hands on side by side with this one and found I like a bit better than the custom shop. This has that matte finish that feels really great. The custom has the glossy finish which brings out the pattern but, I'm not of fan the feel. John was great, he spent a ton of time talking with me helping choose what I wanted. I can't be more happy with the total experience.
American Pro II GT11 Stratocaster
Let me start by saying I had two Pro II Strats before receiving my GTII from Sweetwater, and only purchased it because my first Pro II was recently sold.
It was a 2021 Miami blue with maple fingerboard and there was nothing wrong with it at all, but I've had a love hate relationship with the color for a long time. I listed it on Craigslist for a high amount a few months before it sold, and had actually had forgotten about the ad when someone contacted me and wanted to buy it. As luck would have it I was checking out the Sweetwater exclusive version the night before, and decided I'd order it if the sale of my guitar actually went through. It sold for the exact price listed, and I ordered my new model that day.
Sweetwater did a great job getting the new one in a minimal amount of time, and it was set up perfectly which in all my years as a musician has happened maybe twice.. lol
Full disclosure I normally play 10's with a decked bridge, but this guitar came with 9's and a floating bridge setup. It plays and sounds so good I haven't changed a thing, and will probably keep it setup as is even though I never use the bar. When I inspected it on arrival there were no dead spots, the intonation is perfect and I could swear even the frets were polished.
As others have mentioned the neck feels perfect for my large size hand ( average finger length ) and its everything I could ask for in a Strat. Mine is olympic white with a mint green pickguard which I'm a big fan of. Beautiful dark rosewood fingerboard with clay dots like vintage Strats have is icing on the cake. The 11" radius is awesome if you bend notes and full step bends are not only easy, but never choke out. Chords in all areas of the fingerboard are effortless
If you're considering getting one and uncertain due to not being able to play beforehand I'd advise you to pull the trigger on this one.. You're not going to be disappointed, but in the highly unlikely event that you are Sweetwater gives you 30 days to decide.
