A Strat That Goes to 11 — and It's Only at Sweetwater!

Over the long and iconic history of Fender Custom Shop, thousands of Stratocaster variations have been produced. None are like this one. The GT11 starts with a lightweight, roasted alder body and a roasted AAA flamed maple neck for a very open and balanced tone. With the 11"-radius fingerboard, the GT11 provides a playing surface that inspires and delivers more speed and precision. Add in three custom-wound Sweet ’64 pickups with the Half Blender switching system and Fat ’50s wiring, and you’ve got a premium guitar for any style of music. Topping off the feature-laden GT11 is an updated tremolo with improved string spacing and vintage staggered pole tuning machines. The relic’d body and neck combined with Closet Classic hardware give the GT11 Stratocaster a vintage, worn-in look and feel with precision performance.

You’ve never felt a Strat neck like this one

Some necks feel good, while others feel great. The GT11 Stratocaster goes way beyond great — you’ll feel an immediate personal connection to this guitar. The 11"-radius AAA roasted flamed maple fingerboard makes everything effortless. Play a chord by the nut or play a few licks at the 14th fret; it all feels the same — smooth and incredible. And the AAA roasted flamed maple neck features a ’60s-style Oval “C” shape that fills your hand perfectly, no matter where you’re playing. When we first got our hands on the GT11 here at Sweetwater, we were amazed at what a difference the 11" radius made — especially for players who were used to a radius wider than the traditional Strat.

The Holy Grail of Strat tones is right here

Trying to create the ultimate Strat pickup is no easy task, but Fender Custom Shop’s Mike Lewis pulled it off nicely with his Sweet ’64s. Voiced especially for the GT11, these hand-wound pickups deliver a full-range sound with fat, round lows, sparkling highs, balanced mids, and zero icepick frequencies. The pickups are under-wound, giving you unparalleled note separation and clarity. When we ran the GT11 Strat through its paces, we plugged into everything from vintage amps to high-end boutique models to uber-high-gain monsters, and the Sweet ’64s performed admirably through each. The search for the Holy Grail of Strat tones ends here.

All the most player-requested features

The GT11 Stratocaster gives you all the most player-requested features. You get a modern 5-way position blade switch, along with one volume and two tone controls. The volume boasts Fender’s Fat ’50s hookup wiring with treble bleed to avoid tone loss with volume changes. And you also get a Half Blender tone control that blends the neck pickup into positions 1 and 2, along with a master tone control. And the middle pickup is reverse-wound/reverse-polarity, for humbucking operation in switch positions 2 and 4.

Relic’d finish and hardware are packed with vintage appeal

The GT11 Stratocaster is a classic Strat all the way through. Its roasted alder body sports a relic’d nitro finish, for the look of a vintage guitar that’s been played lovingly for decades. Many guitar aficionados like the Relic look, but a larger number of players get these guitars because they feel so comfortable and broken-in. While the Relic look naturally calls for distressed hardware, many players prefer the smoother feel of Fender’s Closet Classic hardware for a slightly aged, vintage look. The GT11 Strat looks and feels like a well-worn instrument that will be comfortable and familiar right off the bat.

The best strat I've ever played. One of the best guitars I've ever owned. It took me until this part of my life to get the perfect collection. I have 5 that are amazing. ES 335, lemonburst R8, Heritage H150 relic, fender Strat standard (heavily modded) and the GT11. Best fender I've ever owned.

I CANCELED MY MASTER BUILT AFTER THIS GUITAR!

Let me start by saying that Sweetwater staff are of the HIGHEST of quality.

I was in the process of putting an order in for a master built guitar about 2 weeks ago with a smaller establishment. Then I came across the GT11. This guitar is basically a mirror of the specs I requested on my master built. The only concern I had with the GT11 was the 11" radius. Would it feel less like a strat and more in the realm of a Les Paul neck? The answer is NO! The neck couldn't possibly be better in any way! I am a huge fan of the "DEEP C" neck they're doing on the American Pros now... this GT11 neck is similar in a lot of ways. It is a bit thicker...but in a good way. It provides the same comfort and playability as the deep C however, it does fill the hand a bit more. To be honest I actually prefer this neck shape over my old favorite deep C shape. Fits like a glove.

The ROASTED neck and body is a huge plus in my book. Not only does the roasting process provide much more stability, but it also replicates the resonance of 60-70 year old wood that's had all those years to dry out. As an added bonus...there is beautiful flame figuring on the neck and headstock.

I was a little nervous about this guitar not using a string tree and rather utilizing vintage staggered tuners. As soon as I had this guitar in my possession I realized that a string tree truly isn't necessary for this build. The Vintage staggered tuners look, feel and work wonderfully!

The guitar comes stock with no backplate attached... I put mine on (I like it better that way).

I love the relic of this guitar! Combining a relic guitar with closet classic hardware is genius! Ive had guitars in the past that were almost over done in the hardware area...NOT great!

Originally I wanted master wound Josefina Campos FAT 50's. This guitar is equipped with some hand wound 64' pups which from my understanding is a MIKE LEWIS creation. The pickups sound phenomenal. I am extremely picky when it comes to pickups... So much so that I will go through several sets to find the right set for me and the sound im after. These pups check all the boxes! I can go bell like chime to Texas screaming blues all the way to full foxy lady and these pups handle it like a boss! Im a sucker for these pups through a deluxe reverb clean...thats what a strat is suppose to sound like!

There are only 2 things I would change on this strat...

#1 the FENDER decal on the headstock lies over top of the finish (vintage correct) but I am not a fan...it's easily scratched and over time removed.

#2 As I mentioned I LOVE the closet classic hardware, I do however wish the plastics on the guitar weren't closet classic aging because it almost looks a bit odd. I think this guitar would benefit from a nice relic Pickguard and knobs/switch/pup covers to match the body a bit more.

If you're thinking about getting this guitar...honestly...do it! The GT11 is the BEST strat I've owned...and Ive own A LOT!

Ultimate Strat

This sits happily next to my Nash S-63. They complement each other tonally quite well. The bells and whistles on this plus the craftsmanship is just the business. The setup from Sweetwater paid dividends also. Fantastic guitar. You just melt into it when you play. It's really nice. Pickups are out of this world too. Major points for those.
