Fresh from Charvel is this Signature Pro-Mod So-Cal Style 1, a take on the infamous S1 platform built to the specs of Phil Sgrosso (As I Lay Dying, Saosin, Wovenwar, Slipknot, Nails). Sgrosso’s 6-string is a potent amalgam of top-tier hardware, tonewoods, and active electronics with some signature touches that distinguish it from a typical S1. Its solid mahogany body deliver deep, heavy tone with verdant sustain and sonic richness while a maple neck with an ultra-thin Charvel Speed Neck profile and compound radius ebony fingerboard solicit unmatched speed across all 22 frets. Powering tone is a single Fishman Fluence pickup with two switchable active voices for plenty of tonal variety. Sweetwater metalheads will also love this S1's modified Floyd Rose system. It's a recessed tremolo that's always in close reach when you need it but stays out of the way of strums and riffs.

At the heart of the Sgrosso’s tone is a lone but mighty Fishman Fluence active pickup, specifically the PRF-MHB-AB1. This take on the Fluence packs two distinct voicings into one pickup. Voice 1 yields a full, round, and boosted alnico sound with unprecedented articulation and dynamics, ideal for aggressive rhythm work. Voice 2 offers a more lead-ready tone with crisp, glassy articulation free of the muddy clunk and string noise sometimes associated with neck pickups. Jumping between pickup voices is incredibly simple and can be done on the fly using the guitar’s push-pull volume control.
