The Return of EHX's Rare 1970s Delay Pedal

The Electro-Harmonix Slap-Back Echo takes a 1970s-era EHX rarity and reissues it in a convenient pico-sized stompbox. Armed with analog bucket brigade circuitry, this pedal produces everything from subtle doubling to Sun Records-style slapback. The Slap-Back Echo includes a 3-way Time switch with 45ms, 65ms, and 100ms settings, along with a Blend knob for dialing in your mix of the wet and dry signal. You also get a Gain knob that supplies you up to +20dB of boost. Complete with vintage-inspired graphics, this analog delay pedal boasts true-bypass switching and comes with a 9V power supply. Whether you're dreaming of intense bathroom reflections or you want to get your rockabilly on, you'll love the distinct flavor of EHX's Slap-Back Echo.

Pint sized and loaded with modern enhancements

The Slap-Back Echo takes cues from its 1970s namesake, but loads it with cool modern updates. For starters, a pedalboard-friendly, pico-sized housing replaces the original pedal's cumbersome, vintage-style enclosure. The modern Slap-Back Echo retains its predecessor's Blend knob, which mixes your dry signal and your affected signal from 100% dry to 100% echo. The modern stompbox eschews the original's Filter switch, replacing it with a 3-way Time switch similar to that found on a late-'70s EXH Full Double Tracking Effect pedal, with 45ms, 65ms, and 100ms settings. Here at Sweetwater, one of our favorite new features on the modern Slap-Back Echo is the Gain knob, which provides you with a boost of up to +20dB.

Reviews

outstanding slap back, and then some.
As usual, outstanding value from EHX, they never dissapoint.True slap back echo from a pedal that can slip into your pocket.
3 delay rates set a perfect pallet to choose from. Then, there's a surprise....
The Gain control, at least when I play through my Blues JR, gives a nice boost and some grit.
I'm not a pedal guy for my distortion, instead ride my amp clean with a little push from the gain control and use my guitar's volume and tone to rough it up to my liking.
The gain on this marvelous pedal pushes things beautifully when I want extra dirt.
Worth every dollar and includes the power supply for us non-pedal board players.
Grab one!

Very nice pedal with the "classic" slap back effect.

Epic solo boost with slapback/doubling
I gotta say JHS sold me on this. I overlooked it as a mini slapback pedal that would just be an underwhelming delay. In my opinion, delay needs to be exact (tap tempo) or fast enough to fit anywhere (slapback). And, like most of us, I already have an extensive delay pedal. However I was on the hunt for a solo boost pedal for the end of my rig. When my attention was brought to the gain knob on this I had to order it. Affordable too so that's an easy decision. Now, it arrives and I slap it on to the end of my chain. Boosting starts around 9 o clock with some real grit coming in at noon and above. The 100ms is the classic slapback sound. 65ms is almost a room reverb sound. And 40ms is subtle doubling. All settings add nice layering without being out of time. And that's why this thing is great. 3 easy knobs that you can set and forget. Punch it on for a solo and you've got that boost and a subtle extra layer of epicness. Yes it does color the sound. It's a slight mids/low-mid hump, but it's not that noticeable because you're simultaneously adding a volume boost and delay. This is a 5-star utility pedal. Shoutout Chris Goldbach every time I can!
Delay
I found this pedal because JHS did a video on EHX pedals that need to be re-released and my Tera Echo is a cool delay but it's unwieldy and doesn't sound great with Distortion.
I pair the pedal with my Strymon Deco saturation and it gives me the tone I want.
It's a simple to use pedal and for $ it's a deal. When l ordered the pedal it said months and it showed up with the rest of my order.
Patrick was a huge help with getting my delivery to me.
Exactly what I was looking for!
This pedal is my new always on pedal! Princeton reverb, my big orange 5420 and let it rip! Add a little OCD and a strat and I feel Link Wray over my shoulder. I think I have found my sound. Bravo for the little bitty box on my board. Just got it but could not be happier!
