outstanding slap back, and then some.

By Robert Perrone from Allentown, PA on April 22, 2024 Music Background: 60 years with my guitars, my best friends....

As usual, outstanding value from EHX, they never dissapoint.True slap back echo from a pedal that can slip into your pocket.
3 delay rates set a perfect pallet to choose from. Then, there's a surprise....
The Gain control, at least when I play through my Blues JR, gives a nice boost and some grit.
I'm not a pedal guy for my distortion, instead ride my amp clean with a little push from the gain control and use my guitar's volume and tone to rough it up to my liking.
The gain on this marvelous pedal pushes things beautifully when I want extra dirt.
Worth every dollar and includes the power supply for us non-pedal board players.

Slap Back Echo

Very nice pedal with the "classic" slap back effect.

Epic solo boost with slapback/doubling

By Sweetwater Customer on April 2, 2023

I gotta say JHS sold me on this. I overlooked it as a mini slapback pedal that would just be an underwhelming delay. In my opinion, delay needs to be exact (tap tempo) or fast enough to fit anywhere (slapback). And, like most of us, I already have an extensive delay pedal. However I was on the hunt for a solo boost pedal for the end of my rig. When my attention was brought to the gain knob on this I had to order it. Affordable too so that's an easy decision. Now, it arrives and I slap it on to the end of my chain. Boosting starts around 9 o clock with some real grit coming in at noon and above. The 100ms is the classic slapback sound. 65ms is almost a room reverb sound. And 40ms is subtle doubling. All settings add nice layering without being out of time. And that's why this thing is great. 3 easy knobs that you can set and forget. Punch it on for a solo and you've got that boost and a subtle extra layer of epicness. Yes it does color the sound. It's a slight mids/low-mid hump, but it's not that noticeable because you're simultaneously adding a volume boost and delay. This is a 5-star utility pedal. Shoutout Chris Goldbach every time I can!

Delay

By Sweetwater Customer on March 8, 2023

I found this pedal because JHS did a video on EHX pedals that need to be re-released and my Tera Echo is a cool delay but it's unwieldy and doesn't sound great with Distortion.
I pair the pedal with my Strymon Deco saturation and it gives me the tone I want.
It's a simple to use pedal and for $ it's a deal. When l ordered the pedal it said months and it showed up with the rest of my order.
Patrick was a huge help with getting my delivery to me.

Exactly what I was looking for!

By Christian Wood from WEST ALLIS, WI on February 17, 2023 Music Background: Bedroom hobbiest

This pedal is my new always on pedal! Princeton reverb, my big orange 5420 and let it rip! Add a little OCD and a strat and I feel Link Wray over my shoulder. I think I have found my sound. Bravo for the little bitty box on my board. Just got it but could not be happier!

A bit noisy

By Sweetwater Customer on May 19, 2023

Except for the noise, I love this pedal. It thickens up the tone of a Strat bridge pickup nicely even with the controls all the way down, and the slapback is perfect. I can see someone not liking what it does to the tone, but I do -- it really adds some girth. The slapback is perfect. If it didn't have the noise this would be a great pedal.

Too dark

By Sweetwater Customer on April 21, 2023

It darkens the sound way too much. Not just the repeats, but the entire sound when it's on. If the amp is eq'd properly, it will have to be readjusted as soon as you step on this. That's too bad, because this thing actually sounds GREAT after the amp has been readjusted. I had the same problem with the Keeley Memphis Sun... it sounded KILLER, but you would not want to bypass it because it was also also giving extra volume and gain. The Slap Echo doesn't have the same volume jump, but it likewise does give a tone coloration that can't be dialed out. Makes it so the pedal needs to be always on, or nothing... and makes it pretty useless for my live pedal board.

Level matching isn't easy

By Michael Seta from Cincinnati, OH on March 9, 2023

Well, the gain function is kinda cool, but the problem is that when you engage the pedal, it either boosts or cuts you volume unless you have the gain knob in exactly the right spot. Even then it colors your sound. I can see the advantage of having a gain boost with a delay pedal, but it should be optional. I prefer to turn on my delay and not have my overall volume affected.

Also, this didn't have any "magical" qualities you can't get from other cheap analog delays. I don't get the hype.

Disappointing

By Sith from Texas on May 9, 2023 Music Background: Pro

At first, I thought I got a bad pedal, but some research on the web I discovered nope. This pedal is dark, muddy, and extremely noisy. Pro-affordable, clean amp, dirty amp, tube or Solid-state it hisses worse than a snake. The boost is a bad gain. The JHS Milkman is a league better so is A Very Good Amp Company Slap back Echo pedal are better alternatives if you need a niche dedicated slap back pedal.

Cuts highs and adds low mids

By Jesse B. from MA on April 2, 2023

It's a great idea for a slap back pedal but too much coloring. Also it's very difficult to have it at volume "unity".
