An Uncompromising and Affordable Silver Sky

The original Silver Sky was designed in conjunction with John Mayer to elevate a familiar guitar aesthetic with PRS Guitars' world-renowned innovation. That collaboration is now making its way into the SE line with the goal of delivering a more affordable version of the Silver Sky — with all the same PRS quality! The SE Silver Sky features a lightweight poplar body loaded with a trio of 635JM “S” pickups to deliver all the glassy highs and round bottom end that you’d expect out of a classic three single-coil configuration. While the original Silver Sky kept the original 7.25-inch radius of its inspiration, the SE Silver Sky's maple/rosewood neck offers a slightly modernized 8.5-inch radius that feels vintage, but injects a dose of modern playability. Since its inception, PRS has been known to push the boundaries of guitar design. The Silver Sky SE combines that philosophy with a deep respect for tradition, resulting in a high-performance, vintage-style model of the highest caliber — but at a wallet-friendly price!

Vintage-inspired neck with a modern twist

The SE Silver Sky’s biggest deviation from the standard model is a slightly modified 8.5-inch radius, as opposed to the original’s 7.25-inch radius. While most modernized fingerboards opt for a 10–16-inch radius, PRS has chosen to keep the radius mostly vintage, but with a small twist. It may seem like a small difference, but one riff on the SE Silver Sky is all it takes to feel the difference! By slightly flattening the radius, guitarists around Sweetwater love how PRS managed to retain the feel that vintage guitar enthusiasts know and love, all the while infusing some modern performance into the SE Silver Sky’s neck.

A trio of sweet-sounding single-coil pickups

If you're a single-coil tone connoisseur, then you'll love the PRS SE Silver Sky. Its pickups combine the best elements of early-'60s American electric guitars: a round and full tone with glassy, musical highs that never venture into ice-pick land. The chiming harmonics yielded by these pickups are jaw dropping. And when you put them in front of a tube amp, you'll bask in a gorgeous growl with outstanding note definition. These pickups have a few modern tricks up their sleeve, too: they exhibit a higher signal-to-noise ratio than vintage models, and their in-between sounds are noise canceling.

Reliable 2-point tremolo system

The SE Silver Sky’s 2-point steel tremolo is inspired by the classic tremolo systems of the past — but with modern PRS performance! No matter whether you’re doing subtle flutters or full-on dive-bombs, the SE Silver Sky’s tremolo is rock solid and easy to setup.

PRS SE Silver Sky Electric Guitar Features:

  • Vintage-inspired guitar based on John Mayer’s early-'60s instruments
  • Familiar shape with an eye-catching contrasting tone in its cutaway scoop
  • Lightweight poplar body
  • Comfortable 635JM neck carve designed in collaboration with John Mayer
  • Sturdy maple neck with a beautiful rosewood fingerboard
  • 8.5-inch fingerboard radius for vintage feel with a modern touch
  • 3 x 635JM single coils that produce glassy highs and full low-end punch

  • Gig bag included

GREAT value and quality!!

I've had my Silver Sky SE for a couple weeks now and the honeymoon continues! I'd of course read the good reviews over the last year but hadn't pulled the trigger due to not liking the colors. When these new varieties hit AND went 20% off it was a no brainer.
I'm really digging the variety on the stock pickups so I'm not planning a swap anytime soon. The quality was pretty good with the exception of a loose input jack and a scratchy pot and pickup selector switch. Easy fixes. I would recommend this guitar for sure! Good first PRS experience!

No need to modify, perfect as is

I got the Storm Gray color!!!
Mines weighed in at 7 lbs 9 ounces.
Plays and sounds almost at good as my Core Silver Sky. I got the action down to just 1.2mm at the 12th fret on all strings and it will not buzz or fret out on full note bends. I play hard and aggressive and it still sounds amazing.
Pickups are just slightly hotter and darker than the Core model. Tone is very similar, so no need to make EQ adjustments.
I was planning on upgrading the pickups, but after I played it, there's no need. Pickups sound awesome.
Only major difference from the Core Silver Sky is the neck shape and feel. But it's hard to top the Core's neck as it feels like butter, so smooth.

Unbelievable Value

This guitar EASILY has some of the best Strat pickups I've ever heard....and this is coming from 30 years of playing and owning literally dozens of various 'real' Strats, some with boutique pickups in them. Neck is a bit chunky, but very comfortable once you get used to it. But those pickups. My god. Fit and finish on the guitar was great right out of the box, only needed a minor action tweak to be close to perfect. My only complaint is the plastic buttons on the tuners are ridiculous, but given how utterly fantastic the rest of the guitar is (did I mention the pickups?), I guess I can live with the bargain basement tuner buttons.

10/10 don't even look at Fenders in this price range. This thing punches WAY above its weight.

Great value and wonderful tone

I purchased the storm gray with rosewood fretboard version. The color is really growing on me and everyone that sees it thinks it's a really unique color on an electric guitar. As usual with every PRS I've purchased, the action was a little high out of the box, so I spent the first day or two fine tuning the action and loosening the trem spring claw so I could get it to play the way I like. Once that was done it was ready to work.

It really sounds and plays great for the price point. The frets feel great. I love the feel of the satin (unfinished) feeling on the neck, and I enjoy that thickness of the neck.

It sounds like a Strat but has a bit more thickness to the tone and the sustain is great. It's a great compliment to the PRS CE that I also gig with. It provides a completely different feel and tone, but still feels like a super high quality instrument that can played hard and gigged every weekend.

PRS SE Silver Sky - Evergreen

I got this guitar in the evergreen color. It is beautiful. It sounds amazing too. I do have a Fender Strat Player series one too, but for some reason I keep going to this one to play. It has a slim C neck which is perfect for my small hands. The Fender one is easy to play too, but this one kinda is a better guitar. IDK I'm on the fence with both of these guitars, but I highly recommend getting this SE version of John Mayer's signature guitar.
