Focal leads the way in affordable nearfield monitors by combining breakthrough designs with technologies they first developed for high-end models such as their successful SM series. This Shape 65 is the 6.5" model in the Shape series, which brings top-quality Focal reference monitoring to your studio, editing suite, songwriting workstation, or any other application where your space may be limited but your need for accurate monitoring isn't. A cutting-edge flax-sandwich cone, M-shaped inverted-dome driver, innovative acoustics, and ideal electronics all add up to a speaker that's extremely linear and free from distortion, offering clear midrange intelligibility and imaging. And thanks to its dual-passive-radiator design, you can comfortably place your Shape 65s near walls, while enjoying extended low end that's still tight, controlled, and accurate.

Reviews

1 Year Update
I put the included metal woofer covers on. They are in the box but not pictured. WAY better results. More like a Genelec now.
3 Year Review For Ya’ll
Update. Previously I said the bands I record love these on playback. Still true.

I was never comfortable with the lower mids when mixing. Struggled after years with NS10's.

After running room software to analyze the speakers (Not Included) it turns out I needed to be -4db at 160 mids on the back adjustment knobs.

This helped the issue greatly. I should noted my IK Media iLouds are the same. It's called Desk mode.

I now mix on these 50% of the time and 100% on playback.

2 Year Update
Like them better than ever. I actually ended up cutting-3db on the back at 160hz. They are on a desk and not free standing. Correct software on another set of speakers recommend it on theirs.
Speaker Review
After 6 months I feel like I can give an honest review. I don't love them for mixing. I thought I would.

They are a bit blurry in the 160Hz "ish" range. I'm guessing this is a crossover range that was chosen at time of build. Or the time that frequency range takes to reach the listener?

They are fun to listen to. Everyone loves listening to them on playback. They are not my sole mixing speaker.

Great speakers, couple of flaws
The first pair arrived and I was disheartened upon connecting them the first time. The first one was broken-distorted with bizarre frequency response and speakers cutting in and out. Then I connected the other one and although it worked, it didn't sound right. Michael Eads immediately sent me two new ones and the process for returning the old ones was simple. After reading about quality control issues, this did not help my confidence in the product. I didn't think it would happen to me! I have now been using the two replacements for over a week and am generally happy with the sound, especially after the required 10 hours of burn in. If you are coming from something like I did, ADAM Audio T7V's, you won't immediately hear what may equate to you as a $1200 dollar in cost difference, but this is not unlike the subtle differences between a $500 microphone and a $1200 one. They are a worthy pair of monitors though. But, based on the quality control issues from other reviews and what I encountered, I must honestly say I'm waiting for the day when these stop working. I've never encountered the same with cheaper monitors I've used in the past. The other design flaw is the fact that they go into power saving mode unless you have signal above a certain threshold going through them. This on by default and apparently can be disabled by removing the back plate? It is annoying to be listening at low volumes and have them turn off. When they turn on, there is often an associated nasty little click. I would expect no click at this price point, and an accessible switch to disengage it. Also at this price point, I'd expect the first two I received to work perfectly.
