Affordable and Convenient D-style Tone

The Dumble Overdrive Special is the undisputed finest, most sought after, and most expensive model in the world. And with the Synergy OS preamp module, you can insert its bold cleans and overdriven growl into your rig with ease. Best of all, it's astoundingly affordable. On the front of the OS module, you'll find the same controls as the amp that inspired it with clean and overdrive channels. You'll also find the same Rock/Jazz, bright, and Deep switches for fine tuning your sound. Sweetwater guitarists agree, this may be the best way to get D-style tone without selling your home to do it.

Merriam-Webster defines synergy as, "A mutually advantageous conjunction or compatibility of distinct business participants." With Synergy Amplification's combining of tube-amp talents that includes Dave Friedman (Friedman), Joe Morgan (Morgan), Steven Fryette (Fryette and VHT), Mike Soldano (Soldano), and Peter Diezel (Diezel), the name is a perfect fit. Each product is painstakingly crafted by these titans of the tube-amp world, ensuring every nuance of their legendary amplifiers is translated to your tone. For the most iconic tones in the most convenient package possible, Sweetwater is proud to offer you Synergy Amplification.

Reviews

Great Range for many genres!
This module has a really good versatility from a very nice clean to a good classic rock tones, you will not be disappointed. It took my Boss DS-1, Sould Food & MoJo-MoJo really well. I did use these pedals for just a slight bit of gain and a little more boost on the front end.

I own 4 other models & they are all really good, but this one I've used to solo on a hard rock & classic rock songs as well as rhythm tracks on country and indie music.

Good over-all tones
I did purchase used, but own 4 others I've purchased from SW. The Synergy OS is a very versatile module for anything from classic rock, blues, jazz, country or anything else that would use clean tones and or edge of break-up tones.
I've recorded a few songs using the Synergy OS & I was impressed how well it takes OD/distortion pedals.

FYI: I own the Soldano SLO-II, Dr Z Zwreck, T-DLX & Plexi.

Sounds great with Celestion G12M-25 and G12H-30 Heritage 55hz and 75hz speakers
I have two Synergy OS modules in a Syn-2 with a Fryette PS-2A Power Station. For cabinets, I use two Mojotone British 412s. One cabinet is loaded with G12M-25 Greenbacks and G12H-30 Heritage 55hz speakers in an X pattern. The other is loaded with G12M-25 Greenbacks and G12H-30 Heritage 75hz speakers in an X pattern.

I play 70s and 80s rock, blues rock, and metal (thrash, hair/glam, heavy). The key to getting a great tone from this module is messing around with the 3 gain controls (when on the overdrive channel). I find the naming of the OD Level and OD Ratio controls sort of strange. The OD Level doesn't seem to really volume (as you might assume). It does to an extent, but the OD Ratio adds more volume in my experience. The OD Level tends to determine what the overdrive character is. Lower (between 10:00-11:00) is more open, while cranking the OD Level adds more bite and grind. The OD Ratio on the other hand piles on gain, but also adds volume. If you struggle to get enough volume out of the master knob, try adding some OD Ratio. The clean channel Volume basically pushes the OD Level and OD Ratio further. Experiment with the three knobs to get the overdrive characer, volume, and saturation you need.

The dynamics on the overdrive channel are also great. Roll the volume back a bit or move from a humbucker to a single coil, and you're getting closer to edge of breakup cleans that respond well to changes in picking velocity (think the beginning of Eddie Van Halen's solo on Live Without a Net).

The clean channel is much simpler and provides a really nice clean sound. You can get some drive out of the clean channel, but can get pretty loud. Setting the master low enough on the module to keep the volume down will likely cause some difficulty getting the volume high enough when using the overdrive channel. You can possibly counter this by using the Syn-1 or Syn-2 volume, but could be a balancing act.

Ultimately, spending the time to dial in the module will yield some awesome results, so spend some time to get it dialed in exactly as you like. You can try a loop pedal before the preamp -- record a riff for the style you'd play on that particular channel, then spend some time dialing it in.

As for the EQ, I like to keep the bass around 10:30, while setting the mid and treble above 12:00 (dependent on the volume, OD Ratio, and OD Level, as well as the switches). The presence is pretty effective and is a lovely finishing touch when dialing in the module.

In all, you can get everything from jazzy cleans, pushed blues, low gain overdrive, medium gain crunch, and high gain distortion. Much more versatile and dynamic than you'd imagine.
Worth every penny! The sleeper punk rock module!
I love this module so much. It's what you would hope for from a preamp designed to sound like a near mythical guitar amplifier that the majority of people could never afford. The clean tones are versatile and can approach Fender cleans in character, but of course they retain the uniqueness of the circuit. The Jazz/Rock switch gives you the option for either a more sterile and cold character in the Jazz position or more warmth and punch and extended frequencies in the rock position. Bright switch adds a pleasant jangly top that's distinctly British sounding and the deep switch fills out the lows in a manageable but noticeable way. The distortion side is so good. Saturated and warm with enough high frequency representation to be pleasing to the ear and never harsh. Again leaning British in flavor but not like a Marshall, Vox or Orange. It has a great overall rock distortion sound when pushed and with mids adjusted to taste you can get a great punk rock sound! I don't know if any punk rock bands actually have the means to use a real Dumble, but based on this module, the certainly could! The presence is just icing on the cake. Don't sleep on this module! It's versatile enough to fill the clean and rock gap in your collection.

might be the best module I have tried out of almost all of them
The clean channel is utterly amazing and vastly tweakable. No doubt the best clean channel of any I have tried, impressive. Overdrive has more to it than you might think, gains up nicely, lower gain sings as well, you have to learn to adjust it but it really makes you realize why Dumble amps are so liked and mythical. Highly recommend this one!
