Formidable Stage Piano/MIDI Controller from Kurzweil

Loaded with amazing sounds and features, the Kurzweil SP7 Grand 88-key Stage Piano is powered by the company’s next-generation A.T.S.T. (Authentic Timbre Synthesis Technology) architecture. Based on a custom semiconductor, A.T.S.T. allows for high-fidelity audio and streamlined sound programming while facilitating seamless velocity layer transitions. With 256 notes of polyphony, you’ll never run out of voices for even your most complex and richly layered performances. And with two gigs of factory sounds and 307 expertly crafted presets onboard, sonic inspiration is a button press away! Whether you’re rocking Rachmaninoff or a blistering synth lead, keyboard feel is everything. Serious pianists will be right at home on the SP7 Grand’s Fatar TP100LRG fully weighted, 88-note hammer-action keybed, while string and pedal resonance modeling and half-damper support complete the illusion of playing a world-class concert grand. Add in a powerful multi-effects engine and a bevy of physical controllers, and you have a formidable master keyboard for stage and studio.

World-class pianos onboard

A professional stage piano is nothing without world-class pianos and here the Kurzweil SP7 Grand does not disappoint. Boasting the same German 9-foot grand piano samples found in Kurzweil’s flagship K2700 workstation, the instrument’s A.T.S.T. sound engine delivers striking improvements in realism with its support for higher-resolution audio, smooth velocity transitions, and its 2-times oversampling filter. These impeccable concert grands are breathtakingly nuanced and realistic to play, thanks to state-of-the-art string and pedal resonance modeling, envelope/velocity controlled key-off samples, and half-damper pedal support (pedal available separately). These pianos reside in a massive patch arsenal along with every other sound you could ever need, from authentic vintage EPs to cutting-edge synths to gloriously lifelike acoustic instruments.

Packed with powerful features — and control

When you’re performing onstage, you don’t need a stage piano that fights you back. To that end, Kurzweil fortified the SP7 Grand with a powerful feature set that not only loads sounds instantly, it lets you navigate fast. The onboard FX Engine delivers a full arsenal of editable effects, from reverbs, delays, and dynamics to rotary speaker simulation for your organ patches. Eight arpeggiators enable you to whip up compelling rhythmic patterns quickly. And to control it all, you get a generous command center loaded with fully programmable physical controllers. If you’re ready for a truly masterful stage piano to control your entire keyboard rig, step up to the Kurzweil SP7 Grand from Sweetwater.

Reviews

Sweet Keys!
Waited months for this to come in stock. So worth it. Love the sounds on this keyboard and the interface is super user friendly. Very happy with the purchase and will enjoy using this in Musical Theatre settings.

Excellent sounds but unreliable
I've had a K2500 for many years and never had a problem with it. I'm very happy with many of the new sounds and features of the SP7 Grand but have had the same issues as other reviewers here. I'm hoping Kurzweil recognizes how serious the issue is and provides a firmware fix.
Repeated crashes and lock ups
I purchased two of the SP7 Grands because I play in bands in Washington and California and didn't want to have to ship keyboards back and forth. They are laid out great for live gigs and after spending about 40 hours programming set lists for 3 different bands into the favorites tab and tweaking the sounds to sound good with our PA systems i was very happy with the sound and ease of use gigging. I started having issues with the keyboard getting stuck on a single note in rehearsal. The only remedy was to shut down and restart. The third time I used one for a gig it froze on a single note mid song. I had to shut it down and reboot to get the stuck note to stop sounding. The next gig it had issues booting up. I had to try turning it on and off multiple times before it booted up and then it froze on a single note again mid song. In practice the second SP7 Grand had the same issues. In addition to the problems booting up and freezing on a note it had three keys that stopped working. I had an older Kurzweil that I loved and gigged with for years with no issues so thought that the new generation would be of a similar quality. They definitely are not. Unfortunately I now have two keyboards that I can't use for live gigs. I rarely write reviews, but wished that I had seen a review like this one before I purchased my units.
Music background: 40+ years playing guitar and keyboards in bands.
Great unit but consistently crashed on me
Love the workstation...plays great, great features, sounds great....however for me it crashed repeatably with the latest firmware updates across 2 different units in e different locations...it's not user error...it's on the same song, same keys...when it crashes...no more sound comes out of keyboard...but menus still...only shutting off then on fixes it. Once kurzweil fixes this, it will be a great keyboard. Jan 31, 2024
Sweet Keys Review - Update
As stated in a previous review, I love the layout and sounds of this keyboard. Unfortunately, like others have stated in their reviews here this keyboard is super unstable. It crashes using Mainstage and when just using it as a stand alone. I've had to shut down and restart multiple times during performances. I've updated to the latest firmware and still experiencing crashes. I wish Kurzweil would fix their buggy software. Moving on to something else, I just cannot perform with this unstable thing anymore.
