Your Muse for Inspired Musical Creation
Bring your music to life with the inspired sound of the Muse by Henri Selmer Paris! The new Muse professional Bb clarinet combines the knowledge and experience of the Selmer development team with professional orchestral players from across the world. The Muse builds on the success of other Selmer Paris clarinets, sharing their superb tone, magnificent response, and Evolution upper joint system. The highly select grenadilla body married with new conical bores in the barrel, body, and bell to give this clarinet a clear, colorful, and warm tone. Clarinetists at Sweetwater also love the feel of the new ergonomic keywork, including the added low E-F correction key. Let the Muse become an extension of your breath and help unleash your creativity!
Grenadilla body with Evolution system upper joint
Beautiful tone starts with carefully selected wood. Each Muse clarinet is specially made from premium grenadilla that’s been aged and seasoned for superior performance. This helps it create a gorgeous, dark tone that is rich in harmonics. Selmer Paris marks every Muse with a laser engraving of a feather, symbolizing lightness and creative freedom. Additionally, the Muse features the Evolution system upper joint, which integrates resin lining into the bore for increased stability and longevity. This ingenious design prevents moisture buildup in the top half, preventing cracks from happening so you can play your clarinet for years to come.
New conical bores for accurate, homogenous sound
The Muse underwent a 4-year development process. In that time, the Selmer Paris creative team devised new conical bores for the body, two barrels, and the bell. These redesigned bores amplify the instrument’s already-gorgeous tone, letting you perform with a beautiful palette of harmonic colors. Its inner geometry combined with redesigned tone hole placement also offers increased pitch accuracy and a consistent, homogenous sound across every register.
Enhanced keywork for superior performance
Silver-plated keys glisten against the Muse’s black grenadilla body. This stunning keywork exhibits improved ergonomics that help make this clarinet a dream to play. You’ll fall in love with how the Muse feels beneath your fingers, and you'll appreciate the little enhancements that help you put on your best performances. The low E-F pitch correction key solves a tuning issue that’s forever plagued clarinet players, and it is easily adjustable for your right thumb to reach comfortably. The 19-key model also features a left-hand Eb key, providing additional fingering options when playing over the break. And thanks to a raised tone hole, the G#-C# key is also more precise. Everything comes together to provide a versatile clarinet that allows you to seamlessly display your musical prowess.

The Selmer legacy of quality and innovation
As all modern saxophone designs are based on the Selmer platform, it’s instructive to take a look at the company’s history to understand its considerable influence on the instrument as we know it today. Conservatory-trained clarinetist Henri Selmer founded Henri Selmer Paris in 1885. Fashioning reeds and mouthpieces in his small workshop, he soon took on instrument repair and modifications, which eventually led to the design and manufacture of clarinets. In 1900, Selmer opened a retail shop in New York (the beginnings of Selmer USA). In 1922, Selmer introduced its first saxophone: the Model 22. In the ensuing decades, Selmer released industry-leading designs such as the Balanced Action, Super Action, Mark VI, and Reference 54, which have set the standard for what a modern saxophone should be. Listen to any iconic jazz recording by John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Paul Desmond, (late period) Cannonball Adderley, Wayne Shorter, Michael Brecker, Branford Marsalis, or Joshua Redman, and you will hear one of these legendary horns in action. Delivering exceptional value at every level, from student to professional, Selmer USA and Henri Selmer Paris offer a full line of woodwind and brass instruments. Sweetwater is proud to bring you Selmer’s rich legacy of quality and innovation.
