The Lithe SE CE 24 Standard Satin Has Arrived!

The PRS SE line is famous for punching above its price point, and the new satin-finished SE CE 24 Standard Satin electric guitar intensifies that trend with an unassuming all-purpose electric guitar value that both hobbyists and pros will appreciate. A traditional mahogany body supplies flexible tonal foundations and lasting sustain that paves the way for the unfettered genre range of the PRS-designed humbuckers onboard. What's more, the SE CE 24 features a bolt-on maple neck with a Wide Thin profile, just like its USA-made counterparts. A long-anticipated recent refinement of the CE 24, a maple neck adds brightness and a slight percussive energy to your playing. Pair that with a roomy 24-fret rosewood fingerboard and PRS’s patented tremolo system, and prepare to be astonished by the potent features of the SE CE 24 Standard Satin.

Goodbye gloss — it’s satin’s turn!

There’s a time and place for glossy finishes with light-refracting looks, but there’s something to be said about finishes that remove the barriers between players and their instruments. The new iteration of the SE CE 24 embraces the latter with an energizing satin finish that’s breathable and invigorating. The SE CE 24 Standard Satin’s finish invites you in with a streamlined feel that weighs less than gloss. You’ll feel the difference in the satin-finished maple neck’s more intimate response to hand movements, and the entire guitar mirrors that agility in ways that activate inner chops.

PRS-designed pickups

This SE CE 24 is loaded with Paul Reed Smith-designed 85/15 "S" humbucking pickups. An update on PRS's original humbuckers, the 85/15 "S"s are designed to sound terrific whether used in humbucking or single-coil modes. Sweetwater guitarists have discovered they offer plenty of output for driving your amp hard while sounding clear and detailed when you want. These SE humbuckers closely resemble the tones of the US-made versions found in the solidbody electric guitars.

Lightning-fast response

Every aspect of the SE CE 24 has been crafted to allow for an unrestricted playing experience. The maple neck is capped with a beautiful piece of rosewood that feels sleek under the fingers, while its 10-inch fretboard radius aids in wide bends and nimble string-to-string playing. The neck also boasts PRS's famed Wide Thin neck carve that is full enough to remain comfortable, but thin enough for you to fly up and down the frets.

PRS CE: bolt-on brilliance since 1988

Since 1988, the CE series has served as Paul Reed Smith’s premier line of bolt-on electric guitars. While the vast majority of PRS guitars come equipped with a mahogany set-neck construction, guitars such as this SE CE 24 instead feature a sturdy 4-bolt maple neck. What’s the difference? The bolt-on neck found on CE-series PRS guitars transforms your tone with a sharper attack and a somewhat more percussive snap to your notes. There’s no better or worse — both set-neck and bolt-on neck PRS guitars boast a tone all their own, each with a past rooted in the long and storied tradition of electric guitar building.

PRS SE CE 24 Standard Satin Features:

  • SE version of PRS’s classic CE 24 bolt-on-neck guitars, now with a breathable satin finish
  • Mahogany body delivers a warm tonal foundation
  • Fast-playing Wide Thin bolt-on maple neck offers comfortable fretting and snappy, articulate note response
  • Rich rosewood fingerboard planed into an easy-playing 10-inch radius
  • PRS 85/15 “S” pickups with split-coil switching produce a massive range of warm, vintage-style humbucking tones and shimmering single-coil sounds
  • Rock-solid PRS-designed tuners and PRS patented tremolo
  • Iconic PRS “Birds” inlays

No Business Being This Good...
I have a PRS Core, a CE, and an S2. Decided on a whim to get their cheapest model mostly for tinkering purposes before I try anything too crazy on an instrument 3x-4x the price. Guitar arrived earlier today, gave it a solid set up, and man. This instrument punches WAY above its weight class. Pickups sound great, neck is wonderfully smooth, and the instrument overall just plays like a dream. You could genuinely never graduate from this guitar, all it needs is a few small QOL improvements like tuners/nut replacement/etc. PRS continues to be one of the best manufacturers across all price ranges. Could not be happier with this axe.
Great player, killer sound and excellent quality - Very pleased!
Bought this PRS SE CE24 as a backup to my USA made CE 24 for live gigs. Very pleased with the overall quality, sound, materials, gold finish - this whole guitar reminds me of what a modern times SG special or LP Jr, would be - simple and not fussy in cosmetic appointments, but it is truly a refined player and/or beast of a rock machine. The floating bridge was nearly flawless. The guitar stayed in perfect tune after repeated abuse of the wang bar - US mad still has some problems in this regard. (Although, on this SE CE 24 I had to raise one of the six screw posts to be even with the other 5) The action was a bit high as are most guitars prior to set up - 1/4 turn on the truss rod made it flat. The frets were perfect, no sprout, no sharp edges but most critically, the frets were level and polished to a mirror finish. (I can't say that about the US made one which needed some attention when new.) I bought the locking tuners to add, but TBH the stock tuners are great and held tune when dive bombing the bridge - also it's more stable than my US CE 24. I'm still testing out the pickups to nitpick the tone, but the split coil sounds are unique in a good way (its a real PRS sound, distinct from Fender/Gibson to my ears) and highly usable - kind of a Fender Strat middle position sound crossed with a pinch of EMG. Love it! The humbucker sounds are a bit on the hot side and found I needed to roll back the volume to maybe 7.5 - 8 to equal my US made CE. What's remarkable to me is how good the volume control is for retaining the highs when rolling down the volume (there is a treble bleed resistor in there) and the tone control is highly usable - I find with PRS, the controls and pickup sounds are highly musical and NOT just dumb roll-off controls like many, many other guitar brands. Its a small, but an important aspect to me, for dialing in a desirable tone.
Some things I found that are dissimilar to the US made CE: Jack plate is oval vs. rectangular, body shape is not the same on the upper bout where it meets the neck, neck plate is smaller and a parallelogram shape, neck heel is different but very comfy when playing up to the 24th fret, neck is unfinished, body "violin carve" is a bit shallower, belly cut is smaller, no maple body cap, 85/15"S" pickups, whammy bar is "unfinished" (not shiny), non locking tuners, bird inlays are prettier!, fret work is better.
A word on the paint job: This gold metallic satin finish seems to be the "TV Yellow" Gibson put out ages ago, but for the modern era! I absolutely love it. It kind of glows in low light as it reflects a lot more light than a gloss finish in an odd sort of way. The PRS video on Sweetwaters' site showed a guy playing the gold finish version, and that SOLD me! It looks really good on stage but is not gaudy by any means - think TV Yellow! I initially thought of this guitar as a potential upgrade platform, but I really don't think it will need much at all. Plans for upgrades will be adding the locking tuners, maybe poly or nitro finish for the neck, but not new pickups. Maybe the vol/tone pots will need replacing in a year or two but that's about it.
PROS: Looks/plays/Sounds/quality of a PRS
Very low price for this level of quality and grade of instrument
Ready to gig and use long term - as-is! No mods needed!
Comes with a gig bag - talkin' to you Squire/Sterling/ESP/Epiphone et al.
Set up and fret dress are excellent and pro-ready especially for a "budget" guitar
Rosewood fret board, maple neck, ALL mahogany body
Gold finish looks fabulous in low light/on stage
I believe this will be a future classic - like LP jr's and SG Specials are today
CONS: Can't really think of any - maybe the SE on the head-stock revealing it was made overseas. But in my first hand experience, this SE CE 24 is equal, and in some ways better than my US made version!
No single cut or fixed bridge (McCarty) variant available - yet...

What a deal!

I never order guitars on a whim but knew I had to have this guitar the second I saw photos of it emerge online. Sweetwater shipped it to me quickly and it barely needed any adjustments to the setup. The guitar is astonishingly good for the $ price tag and easily outplays my guitars that are double the price. The satin finish is a highlight as it is super smooth and comfortable. The pickups give me a variety of tones from thrash metal to indie pop. You really can't go wrong with this guitar. The only modification I've made is swap to locking tuners out of personal preference.

You don't even have to play guitar to know that PRS instruments are in a league of their own. With their exquisitely figured tops and premium appointments, each PRS is a playable work of art. But it goes way deeper than the surface. Every time Paul visits Sweetwater, we get a deeper look at his amazing instruments. We've even hosted several PRS Custom Shop events, complete with Paul's personal Wood Library! Whether they're his most affordable SE electric guitars, top-quality acoustics, or amps, it's always amazing to see what PRS comes up with. What's more, we keep a ton of PRS guitars in our amazing Guitar Showroom, so the staff at Sweetwater can get hands on with all of their latest models. We'd love to tell you all about them.
