Stellar Acoustic-electric Cutaway from PRS

The SE A60 Angelus represents classic PRS quality in an affordable acoustic-electric that is designed for effortless live performance. Featuring a solid Sitka spruce top and laminated ziricote back and sides with a smooth cutaway, the A60 produces wonderful acoustic tone that is steeped in crisp top end with just the right amount of low-end coloring for a well-rounded, full tone. And when you are ready to plug in, the onboard Fishman Sonitone electronics produce wonderful amplified acoustic tone. Take it from our acoustic guitarists here at Sweetwater — onstage or in the studio, this PRS is the real deal!

X-brace/classical hybrid bracing

PRS's proprietary X-brace/classical hybrid bracing method blends the techniques of some of the most legendary acoustic guitar luthiers in history. This bracing pairs a resonant top with a stiff and reflective back and sides, offering a powerful tone that doesn't mask the intricacies of your playing style. The SE A60 also has a genuine bone nut and saddle for added tonal support and resonance, along with a gorgeous ebony bridge.

Fine tonewoods meet signature PRS appointments

The PRS SE A60 Angelus features an Angelus body with a solid spruce top and laminated ziricote back and sides. The neck of this A60 Angelus follows Paul Reed Smith's wide neck shape and is carved from choice mahogany. A bound ebony fingerboard gives the neck a smooth feel and rich tones. And the signature bird inlays denote the Angelus as a member of the PRS family. The SE A60 Angelus manages to strike the perfect balance between modern, eye-catching adornments and a traditional acoustic appearance.

Fishman pickup system provides excellent sound onstage

The Fishman Sonitone under-saddle pickup system continues to win over players across genres for its pristine translation of acoustic tone. That's why PRS outfitted their SE A40 Angelus with a PRS-voiced Fishman Sonitone pickup. Enjoy the dynamic, natural sound of the Sonitone, and shape your acoustic's sound to your liking with its individual rotary controls for master volume and tone. And the controls' low-profile design does away with unsightly electronics dominating the look of your guitar.

PRS SE A60 Angelus Features:

  • Acoustic-electric cutaway with solid spruce top delivers nuanced clarity and projection
  • Laminated ziricote back and sides provide warm and rich sound
  • Fishman Sonitone under-saddle pickup system provides stellar amplified tone
  • Mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard is playable and responsive
  • Large yet comfortable body style gives you excellent acoustic projection
  • Cutaway offers upper-fret access for single-note melodies
  • Eye-catching abalone/figured maple binding and rosette
  • Genuine bone nut and saddle add enhanced tone support

Reviews

Great guitar and service from SW but a few complaints, too
I bought this guitar 6 months ago. Here's my experience.

I ordered online which allows to pick a specific guitar from their inventory. This guitar has uniquely individual pattern on the ziricote back and sides, so being able to pick from the inventory was a big bonus. In my order, I asked for someone to call me b/c I also asked for a pickup upgrade in addition to setup. Pat called and texted me next morning and answered all my questions plus got info from me for a setup that suits my playing. Pat was great. He also sent me hi-res pics of what I bought. And then he called and texted me again when it was ready to ship. Shipping was fast and really well packed and protected.

The case for this PRS provides adequate protection-not nearly as good as my Hiscox case, but okay.

I asked for a pickup swap out - I prefer a pickup/internal mic combo that an LRBaggs Anthem provides. While Sweetwater DID connect the Anthem to the 1/4 input jack that came on the PRS, I was quite disappointed that they did not connect the Anthem to the built-in battery compartment. Instead, they just installed the battery on the inside of the sound hole with velcro. Worse, they snipped the wires to the battery compartment that I couldn't even re-wire it without replacing all the wiring to the battery compartment - which I ended up doing and its much better. The battery they had in the soundhole was dead. The setup they did was perfect for me, though.

As for the guitar itself - its awesome. I love it. It sounds and plays as good as it looks. Others complained that the headstock is too small to clamp on a tuner. No, there's plenty of room for a regular Snark clamp on tuner. But I do have 3 complaints. The "made in china" stamp is so ugly and obvious on the back of the headstock. Its probably the worst part of the guitar for me. The recessed bridge pins look really great but they are such a pain to get out (must do it by reaching into the soundhole!) - its not worth the good look. And 3rd, the fret markers on that beautiful figured maple binding are small and difficult to see in dim light.

Unfortunately for me, one of the tuners was broken inside the tuning machine. I didn't break it open, but I could tell that one of the teeth on a gear inside was broken. I don't know how it passed the 55 point inspection. I discovered it right away. Probably 1/2 a dozen Sweetwater people (no exaggeration) called me in the days that followed my reporting of the bad tuner. None of them knew that someone else had already called and at first that was annoying but in hind sight it was nice to have them be so responsive. They didn't have a new tuner in stock and said it could be a couple weeks before I'd get it from PRS. So I ordered one off AMZ bc I didn't want to wait. Turns out the one from PRS came within a week. Simple installation and I didn't mind doing the work myself even though Sweetwater offered to pay to have it installed. Pat called me again in a few weeks to make sure all was well. That's a nice touch.

In all, this guitar is definitely worth the price (esp if you get it on sale, which I did!) I do wish that PRS would do something about the "made in china" stamp on the back of the headstock and that Sweetwater would go the extra mile in connecting the replacement pickup to the built-in battery compartment (if you get a pickup installed).

Finally and least significantly, I also ordered a t-shirt from pat when he called me on that day following my online order. I got an XL. I am 165lbs 5'10" and the shirt is way too small. But I got a great guitar.
PRS A60 Acoustic Guitar
I was looking for an acoustic for my office. Something in the 1K range, not too expensive but very playable. I play a Martin 000-28, D16 and D28 at home and professionally. Geoff Allen, my Sweetwater guru suggested this guitar. I trust his opinion so I bought it about a year ago. And boy was he right! This is a lot of guitar for the money! First off, it's beautiful. Really nice tone woods and the finish on mine was excellent. The setup was much better than expected, though I did need to adjust the neck after the first week or so as I live in West Texas and it's very dry out here. That wasn't a problem though because neck adjustments are very easy with this guitar. It even comes with excellent instructions and the tool! And then the playability really shown. It is so much fun to play! And it sounds great, way beyond your typical 1K guitar. Now, plugged in, I'm not as impressed, however, I play into an Allen & Heath Qu5 and was able to easily dial in a fantastic sound with some EQ and judicious effects. Bottom line, this is a ton of guitar for the money. I would expect to pay three times the money for it. I highly recommend. Thank you Geoff!!!

Great Player - Excellent Quality & Construction

I recently purchased an A60 Angelus. I've played his a number of times and was always amazed and pleased with it's overall playability .Played it again recently and said enough is enough, got to get one, and further amazed upon delivery.

This guitar arrived in perfect condition and setup.

Action, intonation, relief etc. all spot on.

I tried hard to find any flaws in this guitar and came up empty. The workmanship and quality control are evident. Bindings and inlays are beautiful and have gotten several compliments. The neck on this guitar is acoustic heaven, and , to me, plays like an electric, great with a capo for really easy fretting. Has a nice rich, loud, full range acoustic sound, Excellent for fingerpicking due to slightly wider neck I've read some people knocking the internal pickup. I plug into my Marshall DS50 acoustic and can dial in a fine acoustic sound. Sometimes you gotta turn those knobs.

Great work by PRS, you cant beat this for the $

I'm not an expert by any means but I just love the way this guitar sounds. I add a reverb pedal and it sounds even better plugged into a PA system. Excellent service from Blake!
Great acoustic!
Love the Angelus. Wonderful tone. Stays in tune. I've wanted one since I first knew they existed about 10 years ago. Finally pulled the trigger and couldn't be happier. Thanks to my Sales Engineer Justin for following up and always making sure I'm happy with my purchases!
