Reviews

great guitar and neck
Says it has a wizard 111 like my Steve Vai signature but it seems closer together and super easy to play. The quantum pickups aren't bad at all. No need to replace them like most stock pickups. I have crazy plans for this guitar, adding a tremolo and my own combination of pickups but it's a great guitar and helpful for shredding if you are after that.
Music background: 30+ years playing guitar
Great guitar, with some work.
The good:

The neck is amazing on this guitar. Slim, comfortable, with easy access to upper frets. The fingerboard on my one was smooth, as were the frets. No high frets or sprout either. I typically have to level, crown and dress the frets on most guitars in this price point but this one didn't need it. I just polished the frets a bit with some simichrome and lightly oiled the fingerboard. The truss rod needed a slight adjustment to set the relief, then I was able to lower the action to where I like it without buzzing. It's silky smooth and a joy to play now I have it set how I like it. I put Ernie Ball slinky 009-042 on it and that feels just right to me.

The weight. This guitar is so light, it's a pleasure to wear standing up, it's lighter than my lightest SG and doesn't suffer from the same neck dive.

The bad:

The pickups. The stock pickups suck. The single coils are thin and brittle sounding and the humbucker is honky and muddy. I put DiMarzio HS-2 in the neck and middle and Air Classic in the bridge. Replaced the pots with CTS A500k, and installed a 22nF polyester tone capacitor. Now it sounds amazing in all 5 positions, and no hum!

If you're prepared to switch out the electronics and do a setup on this guitar, you get a fabulous, easy to play, super light and fun guitar that easily justifies the investment in time and money. I love it!

Frankies cousin
This guitar has twangy boinky single coils that can be dirtied up with a good amp and or stomp box the humbucker has that traditional sound common to the type. The pickups appear to be directly screwed into the wood like EVH guitars and it sustains like crazy! You just basically don't have the whammy bar. It's a great instrument for the price either as a number one or a backup to another guitar. I am more of a Gibson/Fender snob but Ibanez does make a quality instrument even in the lower price range, buy it !!!
Music background: Guitar playing since The Beatles were still together some garage rock bands.
Plays great
This guitar definitely has a Strat vibe. The neck pickup sounds as glassy as any mid range Fender/Squier I've played. It is very lightweight. The neck radius is to me a bit more playable than the standard 9.5 on most strats. I'm always amazed at the quality of lesser expensive Ibanez guitars. My $200 Gio also plays very good even if it was to cost twice as much. I would say that the pickups are pretty bright sounding, but with a little tweaking you can dial it down.
Great affordable guitar
I really like this guitar. Super thin and light, great neck. The bridge wire wasn't soldered, so it had a lot of noise that got worse as I got closer to my computer, but that was a real quick fix. Other than that, this thing was easy to setup, it stays in tune, looks cool,is easy to play and sounds pretty good. It doesn't sound True Velvet good, but for the price it's just fine. Great value for $. Would recommend to beginner and experienced players alike. It makes me want to pick it up all the time. Definitely my most practiced with guitar.
