Sustainability, Versatility, and Limited Availability

PRS's Reclaimed Limited program continues in 2025 with one of the most versatile instruments in the company's lineup, the S2 Special Semi-Hollow. Limited to only 700 pieces total, the S2 Special Semi-Hollow Reclaimed Limited Edition delivers a wide spectrum of tones in a sleek, semi-hollowbody electric guitar using unique and responsibly-sourced tonewoods. Built on a resonant mahogany body with an asymmetrical-beveled Peroba Rosa top and a single F-hole, this guitar offers both visual elegance and tonal depth. Its Cuban mahogany Pattern Regular neck and 22-fret Guaribu Preto fingerboard — accented by PRS's iconic “old-school” Bird inlays — ensure a smooth, comfortable playing experience. At the heart of its tonal flexibility is a unique electronics setup: two 58/15 LT humbuckers flanking a Narrowfield middle pickup, unlocking 12 distinct pickup combinations. From rich humbucker warmth to articulate coil-tapped clarity, the S2 Special Semi-Hollow Reclaimed Limited Edition is an absolute tone chameleon. Additional premium features include an expressive PRS patented tremolo and rock-solid Phase III locking tuners borrowed from the company's flagship Core line. With its exceptional craftsmanship, playability, and sonic versatility, the Paul Reed Smith S2 Special Semi-Hollow Reclaimed Limited Edition is an ideal choice for players seeking a reliable, unique, and expressive tool for musical exploration.

Built from unique, reclaimed materials

Longtime tonewood expert and senior wood buyer for PRS, Michael Reid, has a knack for finding impeccable woods worthy of being crafted by the world-renowned guitar maker. The top and fingerboard of the S2 Special Semi-Hollow Reclaimed Limited Edition, Peroba Rosa and Guaribu Preto, respectively, come from the southern coastal area of Brazil in the Atlantic Forest and were primarily used to build and support homes and farmhouses. Cuban mahogany was chosen for the necks and sourced from trees blown down in Puerto Rico. Altogether, this 100- to 150-year-old wood has all been acquired and repurposed as-is, with cracks, nail holes, grain discoloration, and all. All Reclaimed Limited Edition instruments are finished in PRS's satin nitro finish and left in their natural state with stories to tell. Not only are you investing in an incredibly versatile musical instrument, you're also investing in preserving world history, not to mention an ongoing effort to reduce our carbon footprint globally.

Playability that sparks inspiration

When PRS designed the S2 Special Semi-Hollow, the company endeavored to strike the perfect balance between pliability and performance. Sweetwater's verdict? PRS is all aces once again. This semi-hollowbody electric guitar is built around a resonant mahogany body, capped by an asymmetrical-beveled Peroba Rosa top. The S2 Special Semi-Hollow Reclaimed Limited Edition's scarfed Cuban mahogany neck boasts a Pattern Regular shape, guaranteed to spark your most inspired playing ever. Perfected after years of prototyping, the Pattern Regular neck carve is based on Paul Reed Smith's original, pre-factory neck design — the same one used on instruments he built in the late '80s at PRS's Virginia Avenue location. The S2 Special Semi-Hollow Reclaimed Limited Edition's 25-inch scale length sits comfortably between short- and longer-scale instruments. Plus, you get a 10-inch-radius, 22-fret Guaribu Preto fingerboard that's primed for lightning-fast fretwork and sonorous sustain.

A sonic arsenal under your command

The S2 Special Semi-Hollow is equipped with a dynamic trio of pickups: two 58/15 LT humbuckers and a Narrowfield middle pickup, borrowed straight from PRS's elite Core lineup. This modern twist on the classic HSH configuration delivers a remarkably broad tonal palette. The 58/15 LTs are known for their articulate clarity, blending the chime of vintage single-coils with the warmth and depth of late-'50s humbuckers. Moreover, they're open and responsive, with a focused midrange and well-balanced highs and lows. Complementing them is the Narrowfield middle pickup, which offers a punchy, single-coil-like snap that cuts through the mix effortlessly, without the unwanted 60-cycle hum. The guitar's 5-way blade switch and dual mini-toggle coil taps unlock 12 distinct pickup combinations, giving you everything from glassy cleans to gritty growl. Best of all, transitions between humbucking and single-coil tones are smooth and consistent, with minimal volume drop — something rarely achieved in coil-split designs. Whether you're chasing vintage sparkle or modern edge, this guitar delivers with precision and style.

Precision hardware, flawless execution

Simply put, the S2 Special Semi-Hollow is an eminently solid player. This is not only due to PRS's stringent manufacturing standards but also its superior hardware. The S2 Special Semi-Hollow's PRS patented tremolo offers tremendous tuning stability, ensuring on-target intonation and near-endless sustain. You'll also appreciate the Phase III locking tuners — the same ones introduced on PRS's Core models in 2020 — with high-tolerance pegs, stunning Wing buttons, and an open back.

Reviews

Reclaim Review
This guitar is beautiful. Sounds terrific and plays very nice. I have 4 other Paul Reed Smith guitars and each of them play and sound different. Check one out, you will not be disappointed. Got mine Saturday November 29,2025.
Music background: 40+ years
Unique and Immensely playable
Took a road trip to Sweetwater looking for a t-style guitar, but I picked one of these up and haven't been able to put it down. Very smooth and playable neck. Sustain is really impressive. I also find that this sounds great when I play finger style as well. Love the range of quality tones it produces. Didn't really believe the hype videos about how versatile the guitar was, but I was legitimately surprised at the number of diverse tones. I really like the sound when both mix with the NF pup. I have been running it through a channel 1 on my mesa California Tweed 40 watt combo and also guitar rig 7 on my Mac. I was able to recreate a lot of the tones found in the demo video. Simply put, I can't stop playing it. When you find a guitar that makes you want to play more, then that's about as good as it gets.

If you care about the aesthetics of your guitars (this is usually the last thing I look at in a guitar), make sure you review the photographs of them. They are all unique reclaimed wood from Brazil that was primarily taken from old barns. Mine has multiple old nail holes in them that I think look pretty sweet. Point being, you can't necessarily rely upon uniformity in the appearance. So really look at the pics to see if there is something about that particular one you really like or dislike.

Overall, it's light, playable and versatile. if you can only take 1 guitar to a gig, this one could really pull off a decent number of styles.
Music background: Guitar player for about 25 years. Small amount of studio work in the past. Now just playing for fun. Playing more Jazz/Standards last few years. Main guitars I play: 335 and heritage H150 and Larrivee acoustic OM-03.
Gorgeous instrument
Wow—this guitar is a dream. Gorgeous, understated, and fantastic, versatile tones. I wish the gig bag was a bit nicer but otherwise this is a great instrument.
PRS S2 Special Semi-Hollow Reclaimed Limited Edition Electric Guitar.
First, I want to thank Mike, Sweetwater Engineer who I've had the pleasure to work with for years. Mike made this purchase possible. Transactions was enjoyable.
Moving on: I'm more than pleased with the neck carve on this instrument. One of those necks where you feel it's made for speed and comfort. Sustain on the instrument is excellent and I'm more than please with the tone. The combination of the humbuckers and thePRS Narrowfield Single-coil giver the instrument a unique tonal quality. Add the unique woods: The Peroba Rosa top and the Guaribu Preto fingers board material add to the tonality.

Recommend this instrument.......
I really had to count to ten before reviewing this guitar.

I really had to count to ten before reviewing this guitar. First off if you have any delusions of grandeur that you will get a guitar similar to the one that PRS's Bryan Ewald demos in the video ... "Forget about eeeet"! Mine came with a pitifully mismatched top. I had to pull the control back plate off to make sure that the large red streak on the back was just a dark grain and not a putty repair. Also for $ you get a gig bag, not a nice hard shell case. I wound up purchasing a PRS hard-shell case for this and it rocks back and forth on the heel joint in the case. It is a PRS case but not one trace of PRS branding anywhere. The limited reclaimed plays OK with some microphonic feedback when the gain is up. At least two of the tuners consistently go out of tune and I am not even using the trem bar! Com'mon … no mother of pearl birds inlays in the fretboard at least? For an overly hyped and expensive limited edition I expected much much more. My vintage Carvin Koa DC135 dances all over this reclaimed PRS limited in looks and tone. In fact I would put up some of my SE's against this guitar. I own PRS Dragons, Santanas, and 1990s PRS guitars including a custom 3 PUP Paul built for me in 1997. All sweet playing and looking guitars (except for one 90s red one that PRS botched the refinish on). I also own close to 30 SEs that are great looking and fun to play! Lessons learned … no more sight unseen preorders for me! I certainly won't be purchasing another S2. Keeping this guitar for the lessons learned rack.
