Built from unique, reclaimed materials
Longtime tonewood expert and senior wood buyer for PRS, Michael Reid, has a knack for finding impeccable woods worthy of being crafted by the world-renowned guitar maker. The top and fingerboard of the S2 Special Semi-Hollow Reclaimed Limited Edition, Peroba Rosa and Guaribu Preto, respectively, come from the southern coastal area of Brazil in the Atlantic Forest and were primarily used to build and support homes and farmhouses. Cuban mahogany was chosen for the necks and sourced from trees blown down in Puerto Rico. Altogether, this 100- to 150-year-old wood has all been acquired and repurposed as-is, with cracks, nail holes, grain discoloration, and all. All Reclaimed Limited Edition instruments are finished in PRS's satin nitro finish and left in their natural state with stories to tell.
