Thin Body, Full Tones

Sporting a slim, thinned-down body for peak playing comfort, the PRS S2 McCarty 594 Thinline Standard represents the McCarty 594 formula at its most sleek. This guitar’s asymmetrically beveled “Thinline” mahogany delivers a rich sonic voice, flush with warm midrange and superb resonance. The aerodynamic body is more than matched by the speedy feel of the mahogany neck’s Pattern Thin profile, while the 10-inch rosewood fingerboard and slightly short 24.594-inch scale length ensure high-performance playability from the first fret to the 22nd. You also get a rock-solid set of PRS proprietary hardware, including a sustain-enhancing PRS 2-piece bridge and vintage-style PRS tuners. Still, the veritable cherry on top lies in this guitar’s USA-made dual 58/15 LT pickups — extraordinarily dynamic vintage-voiced humbuckers that fuel the refined tones of PRS’s ultra-premium Core guitars and Private Stock masterpieces.

Fast-playing Pattern Thin neck

Players who prefer a fast, speedy feel will be sure to appreciate the slimmed-down profile of PRS’ Pattern Thin profile. An update to the classic Wide Thin neck profile that won over many a player in Paul’s early era, the Pattern Thin is a versatile neck shape that cuts down on the bulk without overdoing it — it’s by no means a toothpick neck. While technical-minded players will certainly find much to love about its compact figure, Sweetwater guitarists of all sizes and styles have come to favor the Pattern Thin neck style.

Dual-coil power, single-coil clarity

Rooted in the past with an eye toward the future, PRS 58/15 LT humbuckers perfectly capture the dual-coil magic of a late ’50s humbucker, then enhance it with all the benefits of modern construction. The result? A pickup with focused mids, balanced lows and highs, and unmatched clarity. In a nutshell, it’s a sound that’s equal parts classic humbucker warmth and stunning single-coil snap. What’s more, this iteration of the 58/15 sports an LT (low turn) wind for a slightly more vintage feel than the standard version, lowering the output to provide an open and resonant tone.

Straight out of Stevensville, Maryland

In 2013, PRS launched the S2 series. Designed as workhorse guitars for the modern musician, this line of instruments offered American-made PRS quality with a non-nonsense feature set. The PRS S2 McCarty 594 Thinline Standard elevates the S2 series far beyond its already impressive beginnings, sporting the same USA-made humbucking pickups found on PRS Core line and Private Stock instruments. The result is a genuinely uncompromising sonic masterpiece that proudly brandishes the traditional pared-back visuals of the S2 series but harbors the same expressive tone as PRS’s most premium offerings.

PRS S2 McCarty 594 Thinline Standard Electric Guitar Features:

  • Equipped with the same USA-made 58/15 LT vintage-style humbuckers found in PRS’s Core line and Private Stock program instruments
  • Lightweight and supremely comfortable asymmetrically beveled mahogany body
  • Mahogany neck in an ultra-fast-playing Pattern Thin profile
  • 10-inch-radius rosewood fingerboard ensures effortless bends and even playability from the first fret to the 22nd
  • Sustain-rich PRS 2-piece bridge offers superior string-to-body resonance
  • Incredibly stable PRS vintage-style tuners
  • Push-pull pots grant your sparkling single-coil-style tones to complement the 58/15 LT’s old-school humbucker warmth

Reviews

Happiness is guitar like this.
I should be past explaining myself but I still seem feel the need to because I'm somewhat new playing guitar, just going on three years, and really new to electric. I've played electrics, not many. So keep that in mind. OK, that said… this instrument is a pure joy to play. Gorgeous to look at and so wonderfully sculpted it almost disappears in one's hands. Which would be a shame 'cause it's gorgeous to look at. Couldn't tell who was more excited to get it, me or Tionnedre (my Sweetwater guy). Of course, got here quickly and in great shape. I am very happy with my decision to get this instrument.
Music background: Experienced beginner. Is that a thing?
Great guitar!
I have had this PRS Standard Thinline for about a month. The neck has been very stable requiring 1 minor truss rod adjustment. Holds tune extremely well. Plays like butter. The 85/15 LT pickups are great. This guitar can cover many genres really well. It is really impressive considering I live in a semi arid high part of the country. Most guitars that shipped from the Midwest require a lot more tweaking and tuning until they become fully acclimated to the low humidity environment.
I think it has found a long term home.
My new number one

I've been playing for 50 plus years and have or have had dozens of guitars. At 71 I'm still occasionally giging and wanted a great sounding light weight well balanced guitar. This one fits the bill. The new USA pickups sound great. A guitar that works without needing mods. I've seen other describe it as an SG, but better. I agree.

Well done PRS.

Music background: 55+ years of Rock and Blues
Exceptional. Nice guitar overall.
I won't use the trite term "awesome" — it is nonetheless a very nice guitar in my experience. I should have bought two (actually I had both single & double cut ordered, but only bought the double after a long wait during factory shut down). My personal preference is this "pattern thin" neck over the neck on the single cut & they sound virtually identical. Lightweight. Lightest electric guitar that I own. The whole body vibrates when you strum the strings & feels gratifying. Glad I bought when I did — mine has been around since 2022, thus its not got TCI-tuned pickups, with no complaints. The 5815's sound very nice. The neck carve is good, feels slightly different than same 'pattern thin' on my SE owing to the 3/8" scale difference, I suppose. The problem encountered was an intermittent switch that needed replacement (inexpensive enough & Sweetwater was very good abt it). Another small annoyance is the finish: there have been some tiny dots of paint dropping out sporadically & a tiny chip at the sharp edge on the headstock — which leads me to believe the paint adherence was less than perfect. These haven't affected playability in any way, but I baby this guitar & is a bit irksome. Still love the guitar. Owning some fine SEs & other brands, I'd buy an S2 again.

You don't even have to play guitar to know that PRS instruments are in a league of their own. With their exquisitely figured tops and premium appointments, each PRS is a playable work of art. But it goes way deeper than the surface. Every time Paul visits Sweetwater, we get a deeper look at his amazing instruments. We've even hosted several PRS Custom Shop events, complete with Paul's personal Wood Library! Whether they're his most affordable SE electric guitars, top-quality acoustics, or amps, it's always amazing to see what PRS comes up with. What's more, we keep a ton of PRS guitars in our amazing Guitar Showroom, so the staff at Sweetwater can get hands on with all of their latest models. We'd love to tell you all about them.
