Record Cranked Tube Tones at Whisper-quiet Levels

Suhr’s Reactive Load Box is a simple and silent solution for any guitarist looking to cut out the cabinet from their recording amplifier rig. This device replaces your amplifier’s speaker load with a rating of 8 ohms and 100 watts, plugging directly into your amp’s output and producing both unbalanced and balanced signals to connect to your audio interface, IR-equipped devices, effects, and more. Sweetwater’s apartment-dwelling recording guitarists love how the Suhr Reactive Load box allows you to crank even the most potent 100-watt tube heads into arena-ready screaming saturation, all without making a sound — it’s a perfect alternative for guitarists who aren’t willing to give up their tube amps but want to enjoy all the modern benefits of digital amplifier simulations! Best of all, the Suhr Reactive Load box is masterfully engineered to deliver the same tone, response, and even feel of playing through a traditional amplifier cabinet.

Reactive design provides pure transparency

Designing a speaker load box that doesn’t color your tone is no easy task. But, as always, Suhr comes through with simply unparalleled sonics and masterful engineering, resulting in an exact emulation of a traditional amp-into-cab playing experience. How does it work? While many speaker load boxes sport a fixed resistance across the full frequency spectrum, this reactive load box provides a far more dynamic operation that’s tuned to function just like a physical speaker. The result is an exceptionally transparent and organic-sounding tone, ready to be paired with your favorite IRs and cab sims for studio-grade tones at whisper-quiet volumes.

Suhr: the pinnacle of craftsmanship, playability, and tone

Suhr doesn’t just build handcrafted, boutique-quality instruments and amplifiers — the company creates exceptional tools that fuel musical dreams and artistic passions. John Suhr began crafting custom guitars in the mid-1970s, and by the dawn of the 1980s, he was building made-to-order Pensa-Suhr instruments for a who’s who of top musicians. In the 1990s, John collaborated with celebrated rig builder Bob Bradshaw to design the now-legendary CAA 3+ and 3+SE preamps and the CAA OD-100 amplifier. In 1997, after a stint as senior master builder for Fender’s Custom Shop, John founded his own company, a decision that enabled him to bring to fruition products of unrivaled quality, detail, and craftsmanship. Today, the Suhr name is synonymous with prestige; a guitar, bass, or amplifier with the Suhr marque garners instant respect. With elite players such as Mateus Asato, Reb Beach, Scott Henderson, James Norbert Ivanyi, Andre Nieri, Pete Thorn, Ian Thornley, Doug Aldrich, and Andy Wood on the company’s roster, you can be certain that your Suhr places you in esteemed company.

Suhr Reactive Load Box Features:

  • 100-watt reactive load box that allows you to record your amplifier without a cabinet
  • Provides a reactive 8-ohm load in the place of your amp’s speaker, plugging into the output jack and producing both balanced and unbalanced signals via XLR and 1/4-inch jacks
  • Also features a thru input that disables the box’s internal load, allowing you to easily switch between direct recording and standard amp-into-cab setups
  • Perfect for cranking up your amp in settings with volume constraints, allowing you to achieve rich tube saturation without making a sound
  • Masterfully engineered reactive design reacts, sounds, and feels just like you’re playing through a traditional amp cab, with next to 0 coloration

Reviews

Sounds great for home recording
I recently picked up a peavey invective 112 combo that has msdi out. The only problem is the msdi out forces peaveys custom IR onto your sound. I am using this instead of the msdi out to capture a DI of the power amps tone into my audio interface where I load a cabinet IR for recording. It sounds great to me for heavy metal. Both the distorted and clean tones sound beautiful and a step up from any amp simulators I've tried so far.
Music background: 20+ years of guitar. 2+ years of home recording.
Pinnacle of reactive load plus tone retention
This reactive load does not provide lower volume to your guitar cabinet it replaces your guitar and gives you a great balanced output to go into a recording system or impulse response device.
You would not want to take the line output into front of house without an impulse response because it would be very grainy and disgusting.
I personally like to use my own impulse responses hosted by software such as Neural Dsp archetype plug-ins. If you are wanting to get a Reactive load That has built in impulse responses check out the reactive load IR. This device is passive and an absolute mainstay in my studio.
Suhr reactive load box
these are awesome! I have been using it on my bands latest album I am able to drive my 1970 amp v4 100 watt tube amp to the sweet spot and get a great recorded sound a real boon to recording and getting get tones from a driven amp without the need for isolating the amp as we record live no bleed to contend with makes mixing so much easier. if you have a small to medium studio these make it easier to get great sounds out of amps and keep the noise level down, these are great so much so I bought a second one even though my amp had a di out. thanks hope this helps with your decision
Music background: pro ,owner rockinhouse records
I really enjoyed how this reacted to my load.
Great sound and feel out of this. Played everything from metal to clean ambient music, title says it all.
Fully Integrates Tube Amps Into the Helix Stadium XL
This is the best piece of gear. I recently got the Helix Stadium XL which is great by itself but I still wanted to use my tube amps (Ceriatone OTS HRM and Whitney Amplification TremorVerb). I plug the send from one of the Helix FX loops straight into the front of my amp, speaker out into the reactive load and the line out back to the return of the FX loop. I through a cab block after the FX loop and now its fully integrated into the signal chain. There is zero degradation to the sound and the unit is silent. It also saves a lot of DSP so i can add more blocks if I want. I will definitely be getting another one so I can run my amps in parallel. Thanks Suhr for the great product and Pete Thorne for the demo to show me the possibilities.
