An Established Classic from Fulltone!
It goes without saying that the backbone of Robin Trower’s sound is his playing expertise merged with his infectious tone — at the heart of which you can often find an overdrive pedal. Rewinding back to Trower’s 2008 tour, Fulltone set out to create an overdrive pedal worthy of the legendary guitarist. The resulting creation is an overdrive that boasts incredible response, massive sound, and delightful sustain. Of course, guitarists can pair the RTO with their favorite Marshall or Fender amp, but this overdrive works wonders with just about any amp. It’s time to add the overdrive you’ve been dreaming about to your rig with the RTO Robin Trower Overdrive!

The Trower tone is yours
At its heart, the RTO overdrive pedal uses a JFET op-amp with no input buffer. It also utilizes differing diode types in the feedback loop to create an asymmetrical yet natural-sounding waveform for rich distortion. The RTO performs well in smaller settings where you can’t blast your amps at 11 and achieves this quality thanks to its full-sounding treatment of dynamics and its soulfully gratifying sustain. Sweetwater was enthused to learn that this overdrive even considers the impact of Trower’s favored heavy-gauge strings, allowing it to respond excellently to the high signal output on his Stratocaster.
Turn the Drive knob clockwise to OD on the distortion, but Fulltone recommends keeping it below 10 o’clock for that clean-sounding amp overdrive. As for the Tone knob, it only affects the high frequencies, with the 12 o’clock position rather neutral, 10 o’clock sounding smoother for more high-gain lead sounds, and turning it past 12 o’clock will land you in more cut and less compressed territory. Guitarists will find this pedal a great sonic companion with other effects thanks to its combination of high-input impedance and low-output impedance. Lastly, you get true bypass switching thanks to the Fulltone 3PDT footswitch.

Why buy Fulltone?
Fulltone was founded in 1991 by session guitarist, composer, performer, and electronic tinkerer Michael Fuller. His pedals were born out of love for music and tone, as well as the frustration at the inconsistencies and the often fragile nature of vintage pedals. Fulltone pedals are 100% handmade in Texas using the finest components, including custom-made 22-gauge copper wire with no tin coating, Fulltone-designed 3PDT switches, and custom-made brass shaft pots mounted using Fulltone’s proprietary “thru-PCB” method. The end result: Fulltone pedals are built to last and sound amazing.
“The RTO is the smoothest, most natural sounding overdrive I have ever used… but the fact that it enhances my guitar’s character tone is what made me love it!” — Robin Trower
