Reviews

Buying this set of reeds is a gamble
I got my box (which I purchased from sweetwater) and it was disappointing. Half the box did not have "hearts" when held up to the light. When that happens, the reed is doomed. The heart of the reed is where its core and strength is, without that heart, it can't vibrate properly. I am very familiar with the reed adjustment process since I was an advanced clarinetist before I decided to switch to saxophone, and reed adjustment has the same principles.
I am giving this 2.5 stars, because if the reed has a "heart," then it is a decent reed for beginners to start on (I myself find they work fine), however, if only half of the reeds have hearts, you're in a sense paying the price for 10 reeds, while only receiving 5 good reeds. For a number of people, that may not be worth it. I realize I could've just received a "lemon box" and that other boxes may have more good reeds, but like the title of this review says, buying this set of reeds is a gamble.
Rico tenor reeds
I bought a box on 10. I threw out eight new unused reeds this morning as they were spilled from the box. Six were split about 1/8 from the side, and two were split in the middle. The other two didn't play well either. I'm done buying these cheap reeds; they are junk.
Music background: I play the alto and tenor sax for recreation.
