Command a No-frills, Performance-driven RG

Fans of Ibanez’s RG line will find the RGRT420 represents a high-performance workhorse instrument, with a dash of elegance thrown in for good measure. This solidbody shred machine features nyatoh body wings with a 5-piece maple/walnut neck-through neck, carved with an ultra-quick Wizard III neck. Its 24-fret jatoba fingerboard is primed for fast licks and mind-altering string bends, thanks to its jumbo frets. Unleashing a diversified sonic palette is easy with the set of Quantum HH pickups installed. Additionally, the Edge-Zero II double-locking tremolo places an entire arsenal of pitch-abusing pyrotechnics at your disposal with steadfast reliability — even under extremely primal playing conditions. Fusing maximum performance and show-stopping good looks, the RGRT420 stands ready to realize your musical prowess.

Incredibly fast Wizard III neck

One of Ibanez's fastest necks to date, the maple Wizard III neck on the RGRT420 provides players with a wide platform for all varieties of fleet-fingered fretboard action. This slim and super-comfortable neck lets you easily pull off lightning-fast runs, arpeggios, and hammer-ons while giving you the substance needed for fretting chords. Capping the neck is a 24-fret jatoba fingerboard loaded with jumbo-size frets, perfect for big note bends. From the first time you put your hands on the RGRT420’s Wizard III neck, you'll know you've got a guitar built with performance in mind.

Multidimensional Quantum pickups

The Ibanez RGRT420 delivers maximum impact and power, thanks to a duo of Quantum pickups. The ceramic-fueled bridge and neck humbuckers are brilliant lead pickups: vibrant yet snarling with an enhanced midrange output when you push them. A 5-way lever pickup selector switch, along with master Volume and Tone controls, puts you in complete command of your sound with parallel and split-coil options that fit well with cleaner, bluesier genres. If you're after maximum tonal tenacity, then the RGRT420 will give your amplifier or modeler what it needs.

Palm-mute-promoting Edge-Zero II tremolo

Whether you palm mute with precision or simply have a wild strumming style, few things are worse than getting hung up on your bridge during a furious performance. That's one area in which the RGRT420's Edge-Zero II tremolo really shines; it gets out of the way of your playing while still serving up maximum expression and tuning stability. You'll barely know it's there, thanks to its streamlined profile and recessed fine tuners. Plus, locking studs give you additional tuning stability. As for functionality, we've been using — and abusing — Ibanez's Edge-Zero and its variants around Sweetwater since the early 1990s, and we can proclaim with the utmost confidence: the Edge-Zero II is among the most reliable double-locking trems you'll ever put your hands on. So, pull the bar all the way up, then slam it down to the body all you want; you can follow it up with a jazz chord, and it'll be perfectly in tune.

Ibanez RGRT420 Features:

  • Classic RG series with Ibanez's signature build quality, comfort, and tone
  • Nyatoh body and neck-through maple/walnut neck exhibits a stealthy look and feel
  • Wizard III maple neck offers speed and comfort in your hands
