Ibanez RG652AHM Prestige
The Ibanez RG652AHM in Antique White Blonde stands out as one of the strongest modern entries in the Prestige lineup and deserves recognition as a genuinely versatile, high-performance instrument. Built in Japan and positioned just below the j.custom tier, it delivers much of the feel, precision, and tonal balance associated with Ibanez's flagship models at a more accessible price point.

Construction quality is excellent throughout. The ash body paired with a birdseye maple fingerboard produces a fast, articulate response with strong note separation and clarity. The Super Wizard HP neck is a highlight — exceptionally comfortable, fast, and consistent across the fretboard. Players familiar with Ibanez's premium instruments will immediately recognize the profile, as closely related necks are used on high-end models such as the j.custom RG8620AH and Steve Vai's signature instruments. It is a neck that encourages precision playing while remaining comfortable for extended sessions.

Tonally, the Air Norton (neck) and Tone Zone (bridge) pairing is a proven combination, and for good reason. The Air Norton delivers a smooth, articulate clean and lead tone with excellent note definition, while the Tone Zone provides punch, warmth, and authority without sacrificing clarity. This pickup pairing has long been favored on Ibanez's upper-tier instruments, and its inclusion here reinforces the RG652AHM's position as a serious professional tool rather than a mid-level compromise.

The Edge tremolo system continues to be one of the best double-locking bridges available, offering excellent tuning stability, smooth action, and precise intonation control. Compared with the older Lo-Pro Edge found on classic Prestige models such as the RG3120 (see the pictures), the Edge has a slightly higher profile but remains extremely comfortable and reliable. One notable design difference is the locking nut mounting method: the RG652AHM uses top-mounted wood screws rather than the rear-mounted machine screws seen on Steve Vai's signature instruments or older Prestige and j.custom models. While structurally sound, the rear-mounted system is arguably more robust for aggressive tremolo use. That said, the RG652AHM performs reliably in real-world playing conditions and remains stable under normal to heavy tremolo use.

From an electronics standpoint, the guitar performs very well out of the box, though a simple high-pass (treble bleed) circuit on the volume pot would be a welcome addition. This small modification preserves high-end clarity when rolling back volume and is commonly found on many professional instruments. It's an easy upgrade, but one that would further elevate the factory setup.

Conclusion:
The RG652AHM represents one of the strongest values in the modern Prestige lineup. It delivers outstanding playability, excellent tonal versatility, and high-end construction that rivals far more expensive instruments. While small refinements could further enhance it, none detract from its overall performance or reliability. For players seeking a professional-grade RG with classic Ibanez feel, modern clarity, and genuine versatility, the RG652AHM is an easy recommendation — and arguably one of the best all-around Prestige models currently available.

The playability of this guitar is amazing. The pickups offer a very dynamic response while also responding to a good tight metal tone. plays great if set up in standard tuning all the way down to Drop C.

Fantastic guitar
This guitar is so comfortable and easy to play. The the tremolo bar frels very light and it flutters way better with than the guitars with Floyd Rose tremolo I have played.

Totally worth it
Plays awesome tried it in standard for a couple days and put some 11s on it and tuned down to drop c. Does very well with distortion but the cleans are heavenly. The finishing neck feels great and the edge tremolo holds tune extremely well and returns to flush easily and fast while feeling smooth as could be.

This guitar is a work of art in it's construction and playability!

The craftsmanship is superb and it's very easy to make any adjustments. The guitar is so precisely built, all it takes are small adjustments to get a result.

The guitar is super playable, it picks up on the nuances of my playing like no other guitar...it almost seems like it's alive and conscious!!!
This guitar truly enhances,extends and supports my playing and never fights me!!!

This is my foundational guitar now. The Blonde ash finish is also beautiful.
