Reviews

Great budget bass
Compared to its big brother, I know it falls short. For the money it's a great bass. I find the neck super comfortable to play, no neck dive when worn with a strap, and the sound is clear and solid. The preamp is serviceable, but nothing to brag about. Each band works well enough. Also, the fretwork is really decent. Cons: the finish is inconsistent across the instrument, but not obnoxiously so. There is no shielding. Also, the stock pickup is wired in series instead of parallel, unlike its big brother. This makes the stock sound a little too bright. I rewired it to be in parallel. the wiring gives lots of slack, so this was super easy to do without taking everything totally off the bass, which I consider a plus. Lastly, it would make a great mod platform for tinkering. All in all, I'd recommend it as a great budget option, with a decent value for the money.
I finally have a Stingray, and it's a keeper!
Overall, I'm very happy with my new Stingray! It looks good, it feels good, and it plays extremely well. If there were one thing I could change, I wish the pickup were a bit closer to the neck, but this is because I really love the way a P-bass fits me. The split pickup is where I anchor my thumb on a P-bass. The Stingray's pickup is a bit closer to the bridge. I like the fatter sound that comes from plucking further away from the bridge - but I'll survive. Like I said - it's a keeper!

Pros:
Overall, I love the bass itself. It appears to be quality parts, and the neck is smooth and fast. Probably the smoothest, fastest neck of all my basses. I didn't realize it came with a satin finish though. I expected it to be high gloss. No worries - the satin finish is growing on me.

Cons:
Though it's quite a list, they are mostly minor issues and by far not a deal breaker. More inconvenience than anything else. So here goes:
-- I needed to perform a basic setup on it right out of the box. It did not appear to have been setup at all. Needed to adjust the truss rod to start with, and that requires a special "tool"... which is basically a 5 inch steel rod. Not expensive, but annoying that it's not just a standard allen wrench or something similar. Waiting for the tool to arrive in the mail was the most annoying part by far. Intonation needed setting also.
-- Input jack was loose. Needed to pull up the controls cover so I could hold the inner portion of the jack in place while I tightened the nut down.
-- Putting the control cover back on, I noticed that a few of the screws would not snug, so it appears they were over-tightened to begin with to kind of strip the holes, or maybe the pilot holes they drill are a size larger than they should be.

That's about it. Hope it helps.
