Guild’s Famed Rock Machine Gets the Deluxe Treatment

Laden with attention-grabbing appointments, the Guild Polara Deluxe is a modern iteration of the company’s historic rock machine. Like its predecessors, this solidbody electric guitar brandishes a familiar double-cut profile with slightly offset horns and a hand-filling Vintage Soft U-shaped neck. Plug in, and you’ll experience vintage-tinged tones to match this guitar’s visuals, courtesy of a set of scorching-hot HB-2+ humbuckers and two push-pull pots. The Polara Deluxe was clearly built to be played; its 22-fret, 12.5-inch-radius Indian rosewood fingerboard is the perfect mechanism for unleashing thunderous riffage, blistering leads, and all the other fleet-fingered fretwork in your 6-string repertoire. Guild’s Tune-o-matic bridge and compensated stoptail tailpiece offer extreme hand-resting comfort, and the company’s 18:1-ratio open-gear tuners ensure rock-solid stability in every musical situation. Lastly, a pearloid headstock inlay and block fingerboard inlays, ivory fingerboard binding, and gleaming nickel pickup covers give the Guild Polara Deluxe a spotlight-worthy look that’s guaranteed to turn heads.

Based on a classic 1970s Guild solidbody

The Polara Deluxe puts a modern spin on Guild’s 1970s-era models. Like its forerunners, this Polara Deluxe is built around a solid mahogany body with an imposing offset design. Sweetwater guitarists find that the mahogany neck’s Vintage Soft U profile provides a slightly chunky yet eminently comfortable grip that is reminiscent of the Guilds of yesteryear. Lastly, it’s topped with an Indian rosewood fingerboard with a slick-playing 12.5-inch radius for maximum playing comfort.

Guild humbuckers pack serious heat

The Guild Polara Deluxe comes equipped with a set of HB-2+ humbuckers. These Alnico V–fueled behemoths are teeming with rich, vintage-tinged tone, but with enough output to give your amplifier a serious kick in the teeth. Whether you’re aiming for articulate cleans or down-tuned sludge, HB-2+ humbuckers will deliver the goods, session after session and night after night. To top it off, the Polara Deluxe includes two push-pull pots and individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup, supplying you with all the sonic versatility you could ask for.

Packed with deluxe appointments

When Guild designed the modern Polara Deluxe, the company definitely gave it the deluxe treatment — every inch of this axe screams “high end.” For starters, it flaunts a pearloid Guild peak logo headstock inlay and pearloid block fingerboard inlays. Its Indian rosewood fingerboard boasts eye-popping ivory binding, and you get light-catching nickel pickup covers. The Polara Deluxe also sports a Guild compensated stoptail tailpiece to complement its Tune-o-matic bridge, as well as Guild vintage-style, 18:1-ratio, open-gear tuning machines.

Reviews

Seriously Underrated
I've been a Gibson and Epiphone player for a long time now. I've been considering buying an SG style guitar, and to be honest, my past two Gibson purchases have been disappointing.
Enter the Guild Polara. Now, I've only had this guitar a few days now, but I'm extremely impressed.
The fit and finish are perfect. Upon close inspection, the body appears to be made of three pieces of Mahogony, nicely matched. Perfectly polished frets with no sharp ends. The nut is cut very well. Intonation is spot-on, very low action which makes for easy playing. The tones here are great also. These pickups are a bit brighter than a normal PAF style pickup, but not harsh. Nice warm neck tones and a clear biting bridge. I won't use the Split-coil feature often, but it works very well. The bridge pickup, when split, could almost pass for a Tele.
My first few riffs after unboxing and tuning it up were some Drop D Soundgarden & Kyuss favorites. And man, I forgot all about my Gibsons pretty quickly.
And for those SG fans out there, it's worth noting that this Polara is perfectly balanced. Absolutely ZERO neck dive! And it's also staying in tune better than my Les Pauls. This Polara has some unique features too, the tailpiece and the cool little body-imbedded knob pointers are worth mentioning.
Now, for these great tones, killer looks, amazing playability at roughly a THIRD of the price of a new Gibson SG, this is a no-brainer. Dare to be different, this Guild is worth every penny.
Music background: 30 Years of Stoner Prog.
Crazy Good Buy!
This thing is solid--resonates like a champ and really sings! Intonation and string action were great, right out of the box. The tones available with the split coil feature are all fantastic and each are totally useable. A real swiss army guitar. Great weight and NO NECK DIVE! Incredible!
Awesome guitar
All around great guitar. Beautiful finish. Humbuckers and coil tapped both sound great. No neck dive.
Music background: Casual Musician
Great guitar
Nice and light, great sound, designed smart. I have 0 complaints.
Guild Polara Deluxe
Overall a decent guitar for the price.

Nice design and a good finish. Decent sounding even though the low output humbuckers which can be a problem when using the spilt coil feature. Easy fix with a decent pre-amp or the MXR Micro amp.

A better nut setup would be nice. There seems to be some pinching issues. That was taken care of with a light filling of the slots

The string that came with the guitar were horrible. Changed them immediately but I guess that's not unusual

Extremely light which is nice.

Overall a good decent gigging guitar
