I had wanted a Mapex snare for a long time, one with a deep rich tone. This was in the mix and I had the opportunity to purchase it, along with a black Mapex snare stand. To me, the black stand complements the dark color of the snare. I like the deep, rich tone of the snare. It can also be crisp. I will use this snare on my travel kit, but may also add it to my regular kit to gain a variety of snare tones. Excellent quality all around.

I installed a Zikit on it as well
Now I have this Snare in 10" (my fave), 12" and 14" varieties.
Tune it high, grip and rip.
No dampening needed.

This snare ROCKS. It sounds just as great as a Ludwig black magic I've had in the past, and I'd argue even better. I originally looked at Tama or SJC for a hammered brass snare after hearing so many good brass snares love, but decided this would be a great compromise on price. I wasn't expecting it to sound like it is no compromise at all! It has very focused and clear tone, with a huge amount of attack and sensitivity. Cannot recommend this snare more! I bought this snare drum a little while back very good drum. It did have a lot of overtones I changed out the stock head with a Evans Ec reverse dot it took out the unwanted overtones without extra muffling snare just sounds amazing. I didn't like the feel of the stock head.I was experimenting with different heads this drum head I put seem to do the trick.

I've had this snare drum for just over three years now and I've definitely put it through its paces. I've used it with a folk/pop band "Alabaster Boxer" tuned low and thudding and I've used it with my middle aged prog adjacent garage dad rock band "Never Zero" tuned medium high and it excels at both tunings. I'm very pleased with this snare drum! It tunes up easily and having the extra butt plate adjuster helps tension the snares perfectly. I highly recommend this snare drum.
